The Thai monarchy shouldn't be classed a constitutional, while that is what it calls itself it is anything but. In practice it is mixed holding exceptional powers and in reality it can be absolute and often exercises this power anytime it feels like it.

In the Thai case the Thai nobility are the real power holders. The Thai monarchy is complicit in their actions but the nobility has the power. It's like what people thought the relationship between the Junkers and the German monarchy was. Don't mistake me, the slacker playboy having good times in Germany is fully aware that he is leaching off his people. But without the Thai nobility, there would be no Thai monarchy.

From what I read (very briefly) the current King influenced the current Constitution to get more powers (like the ability to rule abroad without appointing a regent, and getting to command two army regiments). Indeed that doesn't sound very constitutional to me.

@@explodethebomb "In a national referendum in March 2003, nearly two-thirds of the electorate voted in support of Hans-Adam II's proposed new constitution. The proposed constitution was criticized by many, including the Council of Europe, as expanding the powers of the monarchy (continuing the power to veto any law, and allowing the Prince to dismiss the government or any minister). The Prince threatened that if the constitution failed, he would, among other things, convert some royal property for commercial use and move to Austria. The princely family and the Prince enjoy tremendous public support inside the nation, and the resolution passed with about 64% in favor. A proposal to revoke the Prince's veto powers was rejected by 76% of voters in a 2012 referendum." Not as significant as one might think xD

Australia and Canada are fully sovereign nations that control their own defense and foreign affairs, and do not actually fall under the rule of the United Kingdom, but rather the “Commonwealth Realm”. Guys I know you try to get these videos out here for us quickly which is seriously appreciated , and they are very informative, but you desperately need to hire a fact checker to watch the videos before you put them out. This one in particular was riddled with mistakes both in the script and in the animations, some tiny, some actual misinformation. For example the English monarchy was established around 927 not 1927 (easy slip of the tongue I know but still should have been fixed), and in the Canadian chart you have it written in the middle "who should New Zealand's next head of state be".

Is Monaco really a constitutional monarchy? I ask as 1)it is ineligible to join the EU as the EU classes it as non constitutional, 2) The prince retains full veto rights and is also the body that ratifies legislation suggested by the national council [a democratic body] 3) Has full control of the judicial system. This seems more like it is your 2nd category, wherein ministers exist to serve the monarch not the people.

We could say they are ruled in a personal union. At least that's what it was called historically when different kingdoms shared a monarch. The most common argument I heard in Australia was that they wanted to have a Monarch that was present and not across the world far away. Therefore they considered to choose someone from the royal family who was not inheriting the British throne, sort of establishing a new Australian branch of the Royal family. Prince Harry was seriously considered for this position, but I think he is not "available" anymore.....

If I may add one more unique fact... there's one monarchy inside a Republic - that is in Indonesia. If you search the provinces of Indonesia there's one named "Special Territory of Yogyakarta", where its governor is the Sultan of Yogyakarta, and its deputy governor being the Prince of Pakualaman - the position is hereditary and the Sultan/Prince are the executive head of their regional governments. BUT they still have an elected parliament (DPRD) and also elected mayors/municipal leaders below them, so it is kind of a mixed power monarchy. And what's more, one of the Sultans (Hamengku Buwana IX) was also once appointed as Vice President of Indonesia (1973-1978). So yeah, a monarchy inside a Republic, a Sultan serving as a Vice President too.

The Spanish monarchy's low aproval rate isn't primarily motivated by corruption (even though it obviously plays a role). The mayor rason for a strong opposition to the monarchy here in Spain is linked with the Spanish civil war and the dictatorship it followed. After the civil war, we went from a democratic republic to a fascist dictatorship, and the dictator Francisco Franco appointed the previous monarch Juan Carlos de Borbón as head of state, to follow his legacy as a dictator after he died. When the transition began, many asked for a referendum to decide which form of government they wanted, but since poling suggested that spaniards might prefer a republic, they simply didn't ask, hence an important part of the Spanish society seeing them as a legacy of franquism. This doesn't mean they don't have support though, nowadays monarchism/republicanism is broadly divided in a left/right spectrum.

a quick message for the people in the comments: the classification of the monarchies in this video is correct. all the constitutional monarchies named are constitutional, all the mixed mixed and all the absolute absolute. it's about the official classification. if the monarchs act the same way they are classified as is another discussion. but talking about the official classification, they did it right. also, as veto right is part of a constitutional monarchy, the queen of the UK also has a veto right over all laws. so, no, liechtenstein, thailand, monaco, marocco, kuwait, jordan and whatever are not mixed, they are constitutional. Japan is still a constitutional monarch, even if his position has become ceremonial (thats a statement you can make about most constitutional mpnarchies). also north korea is officially a republic, so the Kims are officially not monarchs. yours sincerely, Cédric

Whether the elder was a non-hereditary constitutional monarch (patriarch/matriarch?) or a variation on a ceremonial president isn't a big deal to me but I suppose what I am suggesting is a variation on our constitutional monarchy with the role of the monarch repatriated and made non-hereditary. I support the Monarchy 100%. The cultural importance is overwhelming. Honestly, I’d like the expansion of their powers in cultural matters, give the lords actual locations to be cultural heads of. Expansion of nobility. Edit: To clarify, I want to put lords in the same position of the monarchy. Ceremonial figure heads of towns and counties, being practically in charge of only cultural events and celebrations.

I support the Monarchy but giving power to the Lords is not what I support. Calling mayors "Lords" would be fine though, but it shouldn't be passed down through Family. Even if by some miracle everyone accepts proper Lords, it would just destabilise the country.

monarchy is outdated and ridiculous concept that has no relevance in the modern world.

@@eruno_ There are many things in this world that date back to the times of BC like clothes. If we go by your logic clothes are outraged since they predate to the times of BC

Which countries have a law on the books stating people cannot critique/insult the monarch? That's the real definition of power.
