How did moving the pawn to f6 blunder the other pawn?
@IlluviumGaming
@IlluviumGaming 2 жыл бұрын
Because black is losing if he takes the knight with the pawn. After fxe5 Qh5+, black can either play Ke2 and get mated in one to Qxe5#, or block with g7. If you block with g7, after Qxe5+, you win the rook on h8. In fact, black's best try after Nxe5 is Qe7, now threatening fxe5 (it works now since e5 is defended), after Nf3 black's best move is d5 (a ridiculous looking move imo, black is clearly worse if that's the engine's best move) because if you take back with Qxe4, white simply plays Be2 and safely develops, with 2 developed minor pieces and ready to castle vs a misplaced queen in white's territory lined up with black's king and a weak king from f6. It's not an immediate material advantage if black plays the best moves but it's a decisive advantage for white, making f6 definitely worthy of being labeled a blunder.

this reminds me of when i was in 1st or 2nd grade, when i was actually good at chess (at least good enough to get 5th in the tournament involving a few schools in the suburbs of chicago), when an old friend of my dad was visiting. i effectively beat him while explaining my every move, and the only reason i won is because even now, he understands nothing about chess. i miss being good at chess, and i honestly could have done better to keep up my chess skill. had a great coach at my elementary school there too, he was like an IM or whatever.

I got recommended this and I thought it would be two players both playing to the rule. Still pretty cool though.
