A nuclear weapon (also called an atom bomb, nuke, atomic bomb, nuclear warhead, A-bomb, or nuclear bomb) is an explosive device that derives its destructive force from nuclear reactions, either fission (fission bomb) or from a combination of fission and fusion reactions (thermonuclear bomb). Both bomb types release large quantities of energy from relatively small amounts of matter.

Interesting fact: Tsar Bomba yield was cut in half, because scientists feared that it would cause a world end. It was supposed to be an 100 Megaton bomb. It has 58 Megaton explosion. The Tsar Bomba has a scalable design, so it can be scaled even more than 100 Megatons, which is insane.

"Because scientists feared it would cause a world end" The heck are you talking about? The Tsar Bomba's power was cut in half because of the tremendous fallout it would left, but is nowhere even close to be able to destroy the world. The logic itself is stupid, if a bomb has the power to end the world, cutting its power in half would not make much difference.
@thedevoidangel6563

By igniting the atmosphere right? because that's what people don't realize, it can create a chain reaction after just one powerful enough nuke. It ignites something in the atmosphere, and that goes bang, which causes the next (molecule, atom, - sorry not sure), and now you are getting a chain reaction from just one nuke. I read it, but it was a long time ago. Bloody scary when you think about it. We don't need all those nukes. If by chance someone survives the initial strikes, it will literally set alight to all the oxygen, blowing our atmosphere into space, leaving the planet a burnt crisp (the fires will go out, once the oxygen and atmosphere are gone), and the survivor's will die. PS: milutinke ignore jhin, they don't know what they are talking about.

with modern technology both the US and Russia could(theoretically) create nukes many times larger than the tsar. Originally the tsar bomb(which was 57mt) was supposed to have twice the power it had(100mt). Nukes like those are meant to intimidate and not to use due to sheer size, weight, and after effects like radiation. The US, in fact, recently created nuke that goes on trident missiles in submarines that has a very low yield of only 5 kilotons(less than Hiroshima) which are to be used actively in battles unlike the larger nukes.

Random fact of the day that everyone probably knows: Tsar bomba when dropped, had a parachute to give time to the pilots to escape, even with that, the plane still came extremely *EXTREMELY* damaged.
