The art of those old 2600 games is the stuff of legend and an era in gaming that will never happen again. Talk about using ones imagination, as you see what the games of the time might have looked like if the technology was there to deliver on the mind's eye. As soon as this time ended, most box art while still good, was nowhere near the quality shown here, as I'm sure funds became a major issue for such things. For anyone who is interested, years ago, "The Art of Atari" was released and it's a publication that shows most of this fine art all in one place, it's still available and worth the price. There was also a poster collection as well that offered posters within the book that could be removed and displayed, not sure if that is still offered.

Indy 500 was better than the original Sprint. As far as the driving controllers, Atari should've brought Tempest to the 2600 as the 2nd game to support those controllers.

Quick question... many of these were "black label" games and then republished with a picture in/around 1981, no? I owned many of the sports stinkers in black label format.. horrible basketball, okay bowling and bad football. Got them in a shoebox at a garage sale cheap along with a few memorable games!

Yes, lots of these are Text Label games that were republished with new box and/or cartridge art.

@TheLairdsLair I was just old enough that I don't think anyone was buying the text label games anymore as picture label games. You got them in lots at garage sales in shoe boxes. 1 football, 2 basketballs, 3 blackjack and a human cannonball. All for 2 weeks allowance money.
