I remember buying my first ZX Spectrum from WH Smiths in Enfield. I had a ZX81 and saw Jetpac and knew I had to have it. I had just got a new job and had back pay from my old job. £129 for the Spectrum and £5 for the game. I got my money's worth. Later I went C64, Atari, Amiga and then PC.I think £D Starstrike was my all time favorite. I never knew about until I got it on the Band Aid Spectrum Cassette.

If only they made the CD32 a bit beefier. It could pull from a massive retro library and i would have loved some new games developed with the newfound power in mind.

here, in the States, TJ Maxx has them for $129!!!! Crazy expensive for what it is - 45 pounds is where the price SHOULD be. Cool to see, I would buy it at that price, but NOT at the $130usd that it's selling for here

The C64 also four excellent modern Christmas games in the form of Santa's Workout 1-4, one released each year for the past four years. Each is a well done puzzle game with multiple levels. If I had one criticism of them, it would be that they're too short. I finished them quickly and wanted more. :) Well, i haven't played the fourth one yet, but I will.

Thanks for that, I'll check them out and probably include them next year!

@@TheLairdsLair Hopefully by then, you'll be able to include Santa's Workout 5. There's also Santa's Troubles, a 2023 platform game for the C64, where you have to recover stolen gifts from thieves' hideouts.

Wow, a Woolworth's ad! I was knee high to a grasshopper when they closed here in the states. I remember as a child my Dad taking us to Sears, Montgomery Ward, and Service Merchandise to look at toys for Christmas. On very SPECIAL occasions Dad would take us to Toys Я Us, or Children's Palace to look. Sad that none of those stores exist anymore. I would love to take my kids through them.

Honorable mention to Terminator 2: Judgement Day for the C64GS. It wasn't a pack-in game but, it was intended to be the killer app for the system. The game required you to press enter on the keyboard to start the game but, the C64GS didn't have a keyboard.

If released, it probably would have only been able to run NES games due to being an NES hardware clone, would have had less battery efficiently than the game boy color, suffered from the famiclone bug issues, and action 52 + chettahmen 2 would have been included in the device itself as onboard rom chips.

Indrema L600? I don't know how you do it but you managed to find a console I had yet to hear of. I honestly thought the world had run out of such things at this point. I wanted the Phantom when it was in development. I'm not a PC gamer, and was still several years away from owning one, but there were so many horror titles I wanted, from Harvester of Sorrow to Alice. I liked the idea of being able to buy a PC game, not having to care about specs, and just putting in the disc and playing as simply as a console. I was disappointed to learn a bit later that Phantom would be digital only but coincidentally enough, another PC games console appeared and it did have a disk drive. Huzzah! My savior, ApeXtreme! 😍 Of course, it ended up being cancelled and to this day I _still_ haven't played any of those PC games I always wanted. 😞

I've always wondered why a console has never come out of Europe in any way. Japan just dominates. In America we didn't have much but at least we still have made a few.

I've got to say that the choice of music for the +4 homebrew version is hilarious! It feels so wrong to have music written for a shoot 'em up attached to Fast Food of all things!
@IsaacKuo3 күн бұрын
C64 first, with smoothest motion and a pleasant palette. ZX Spectrum second, with pretty smooth motion albeit with some flicker. And of course, the usual color clash and performance issues. Colors are garish, but at least you could dial down the saturation on a TV (not an option for the CPC monitor). CPC third, with chunky motion and garish colors. It's like looking through a red or orange filter. However, it is the only version where the pixel art of the food makes it clear what each food item is. Plus/4 last, since it doesn't even have an 11x11 maze and the food doesn't move. Dizzy doesn't even face different directions when walking. The enemies are all the same color. It's not even remotely the same game.

Classic game on Amstrad along with Kwik Snax and Sgt Seymour Robot Cop ( also from Codemasters )
@kenwheeler36373 күн бұрын
I concur with the rankings as well. The CPC, although a bit slow, looks and sounds great. The ZX port has better speed but the sound and appearance is slightly lower, then the C64 being even more below that. The Plus4 one looks horribly frustrating to the point of being damn near unplayable.
@TheLairdsLair3 күн бұрын
My thoughts: I have enormous nostalgia for the ZX Spectrum version of Fast Food having played it to death as a kid, so this was a really enjoyable video for me to make personally. That said I can't give the win to the Spectrum version this time, because the Amstrad CPC version is almost exactly the same just more colourful, so that ranks in first place. The I will go ZX Spectrum followed by the slightly simplified Commodore 64 port. I am not sure why they made small changes to the C64 port, but they are detrimental to the game making it less challenging and less interesting. The muddy graphics are also a bit of a downer, with sprites often blending into the background. In last place is the homebrew Commodore Plus/4 version, which has been changed quite significantly and is far too hard and really annoying for it. I did love the music in this version however. So my final ranking Amstrad CPC > ZX Spectrum > C64 > Plus/4
@GCSoundArtifacts3 күн бұрын
The homebrew in Commodore Plus/4 really did wonders with the sound of the system. However, for this particular game, I think the Amstrad CPC made its particular Heaven in graphics and sounds, in spite of its eventual slowdowns. It feels like home in its aesthetics. But C64 and ZX Spectrum ones aren't letdowns at all. To me, it goes like this: CPC > ZX Spectrum > C64 > C16/+4
