Malibu PJ....She hits different . She is one of my Faves of all time. She is my fave from the Malibu Sunset group of dolls....even more than Malibu Barbie, which is crazy since Malibu Barbie is also one of my Fave Dolls ever.

@@Thedollswitness I LOVE Christie too! She's Divine! I guess, I love the 70's return to a natural, and less Glamorous feel, which embodies the look then, more fun in the sun vibes. I just Love Vintage Barbie. From the first ponytails straight through the 80's. 90's was rocky, and 2000's to present (Besides BFMC) and excluding repros is a hard pass. Not Feelin Barbie anymore regarding current day. Moved on to Integrity dolls FR, Poppy and NU Face, they have a better understanding of current trends and the reflection on Fashion dolls..

Lovely collection of PJ dolls you have! I had the original talking PJ and Stacy too! I kept PJ's dress all these years but sadly gave the dolls away at 13 yrs. Started collecting again the 90's, so of course I purchased the repro photo PJ and the 3 set repro malibu girls Barbie Christie and PJ. Wish Mattel would do 1 repro mod a year cause mod, hippie chick, and 60's babes are my fav's. The silkstone repro Skipper they did this year is like my original I had as a kid and the doll brings me joy!!!

The one's issued with the first Superstar Malibu Barbie I believe (not Sun Lovin', the one right before). I believe the Barbie had a red/orange swimsuit, but the PJ is still in her pink one.

I have always been a big fan of P.J. dolls. As a child, my very first Barbie that wasn't a hand-me-down was actually a P.J. doll, so she has always been a special character in the lineup for me. As an adult collector I have all the P.J. dolls, and multiples of most of them. I don't think I have more than one example of 1976 Deluxe Quick Curl P.J., but I know I have at least two 1975 Free Moving P.J. dolls, six 1978 Fashion Photo P.J. dolls (plus one repro), four or five 1983 Dream Date P.J. dolls, five or six 1984 Sweet Roses P.J. dolls and innumerable Malibu P.J. dolls, including all the variants (including the late 1978 Philippines Malibu P.J.). My favorite Malibu variant is the very of-its-time 1979 Sun Lovin' Malibu P.J. doll. The tan lines, the purple bikini, the mirrored sunglasses, the pink bag, it's all so nostalgic for me. I also have a few 1969 New & Groovy Talking P.J. dolls, several 1970 P.J. With Twist 'N Turn Waist dolls, and a few 1971 Live Action P.J. dolls. One of my Talking P.J. dolls was originally sold in a plastic bag with a cardboard hanger tag, but I took her out because the bag was trashed. The doll itself is mint with her wrist tag, mute of course. I have repaired two of my Talking P.J. dolls to talk, though, and my favorite line she says is "wow, you're the grooviest!".

I have a loose fashion photo PJ that I found in a cheap lot, and I adore her. The only thing I'm confused about is how she does this weird movement when it comes to the combo between the neck, waist, and head. Is that normal? @@Thedollswitness Honestly, the Fashion Photo mechanism has always been very strange, I had Fashion Photo Barbie as a child and she was always weird. The doll was designed for the Fashion Photo posing stand, so that when the camera moved the doll's legs, her head would turn as well. The body construction is unique to these dolls, the neck joint does not pivot like the SuperStar or Ballerina Barbie dolls, it only turns side-to-side, based on the position of the legs. The right leg will also swing out at the hip, unlike SuperStar and Ballerina Barbie doll hip joints. Turning the doll at the waist will also cause the head to move. No thought was really given to using the doll as a regular fashion doll outside of the Fashion Photo play feature, so it behaves very strangely if you try to pose the doll as you would any other doll. Putting the doll in a seated position is hilarious, as the head will spin around several times.

A MIB (orginal) Fashion Photo PJ is my second holy grail! But I'm not gonna pay like more then 500 for her so god I hope I find her at a convention or show for a decent price! 😅 The only PJ I have right now is Dream Date but I'd like Free Moving and Sweet Roses too. I got my MIB Dream Date for $124!

Happy I found your video! I also really love PJ and she is more stylish than Midge. Maybe PJ and Barbie had more in common and Midge and Barbie grew apart a bit. I believe Midge was more a country girl/home maker girl and Barbie wanted more of a city life and work and bla bla so they grew apart!

In my "headcanon", Barbie and Midge graduated from college in 1968, after which Barbie moved to California full time to further her modeling career, while Midge stayed in Willows, Wisconsin. In California, Barbie met Stacey, Christie and P.J. and they all became friends.

I have a theory, I think Mattel discontinued PJ cause her name was too dated and they just re-named her as "Whitney"(very popular name in the 80's) or "Laura" in European version, I have this theory cause the very first Whitney/Laura doll like the Nurse or Jewel secret are very similar to the 80's PJ doll, I might be wrong but this is what I think- Anyway PJ is my ABSOLUTE favorite Barbie's friend (Midge is my second favorite) she's so gorgeous and groovy! I have all the dolls you showed in this video and I absolutely love them! I want to collect all the PJ ever made even doubles. P.S. Fun fact: there are also some Paper doll of PJ and some of them looks different from the actual plastic dolls like a Malibu PJ with RED HAIR in her classic pig tails.
