Actually, a lot of people don't realize this but BRATZ is highly influenced by urban culture, specifically in black and brown communities. When those dolls came out, I remember thinking how much they looked like my older sisters and cousins. The full lips, the make-up style, the fashion, etc. If you want to see the inspiration from bratz, simply look up the fashion styles from black/brown girlies in the 90s/00s. In fact, if you look up the fashion lines and styles from the clothing brand BABY PHAT, you'll see how inspired they were (which has inspired by a lot of fashion styles in today's day and age. The nails, the lashes, the "brown girl" make up). Edit: Oh if I have to read a "yeah we all knew this!" growing up lmaooo. Everybody is (rightfully) calling out My Scene and Mattel for making the only Black character out to be villainized, but I’ll actually take it a step further and say (at least in the Go Hollywood movie) Madison’s “friends” were actually more in the wrong than she was. From the very start of the movie, Barbie and the other girls really spew entitlement with very little regard for other people. They barge onto a film set, LIE about being extras, steal props to make themselves costumes, and see nothing wrong with it. They then proceed to cause total chaos on the set because they are “bored”. They tried on costumes, messed with the equipment, and hijacked a golf cart for funsies. During all of this, Madison is literally the only one to bring up the fact that what they are doing is wrong and that they have to have respect for the rules and boundaries in place. Yeah, she’d eventually cave to the pressure, but at least she’s shown caring about the morality of this. I have a fanfic style theory that the production crew saw her trying to stand her ground and wanting to do the responsible thing and that’s why they decided to cast her for the bit part (a role with 5 lines what involves missing the main guy and being treated as a major antagonist, but I digress). At first, she IS so accommodating and kind to her friends. She lets them come watch her get ready, stay in the trailer, and she even brought them their lunch early and sat with them as opposed to with her new costars. If anything, Barbie is the one encouraging her to pursue a relationship with the other actors. Then, her friends literally CRASH Madison’s DATE and bombard Lindsey and Ryan. Madison was RIGHT to be mad at them. This is the first time she’s doing ANYTHING without those friends of hers and it’s not because she thinks she’s better than them, it’s because she was on a DATE and expected and deserved some privacy and space. Then, when Madison attempts to set up some boundaries and not see her friends every second of every day, they all get so butthurt. There is nothing healthy about the friend relationship these girls are in. Barbie can miss me with the audacity to DEMAND Madison cancel her plans to hang out with them unannounced. I just don’t doubt for a millisecond that if Barbie were in Maddison’s shoes, she would be acting just as aloof (if not MORE) than how Madison’s acting. Also, when Madison genuinely tries talking to her friends on the set again, they all brush her off and just act like giant jerks. Madison is legit trying to right her wrongs but the other girls won’t have it. Then, for the cherry on top, the girls express PLEASURE that their friend got hurt!!! I would cut these girls out of my life so fast it’s not even funny.

I love Madison so I’m probably bias, but I find it so weird that she’s always made to be the villain. It’s especially weird being as she’s the only darker skinned character, and during the era my scene was popular it was super common to demonize Black and brown women. The Hollywood movie especially felt icky with the way the white characters feel Madison should be acting more humble, and feel entitled to the same opportunity she received. The whole treatment of Madison just feels micro-aggressive as a girl that looks like and always related to Madison.
@coatimundi6915 күн бұрын
i totally agree!! i also think its interesting that even in their attempt to diversify the barbie brand, they made madison medium skinned, blue-eyed, and light-brown haired (though she most likely lightened it); meanwhile sasha is most commonly depicted as dark skinned with naturally dark hair. like, MyScenes darkest girlie looks like yasmin but they STILL demonize her 💀

I loved both Bratz and My Scene and regardless of the competition, I played with both of the dolls until I grew out of them. As a 23 year old in 2020, I decided to start collecting them both new in box… also I do remember the Barbie replacement too!

I had only Madison dolls growing up! She was my favourite, and I always played those dress up and make up games on their website. I never watched the movies at the time, didn't even know they existed, so it's brutal to see how they did her so dirty lol

@papa_nu_guinea_pig0414 күн бұрын
my mom also hated Bratz dolls and wouldn't let me own any until I was 11, she thought they were weird and inappropriate and that they didn't channel "(Christian) good girl" vibes that's probably what Fox News told her 😮💨

@@JustMe-vs1kj where are you from? Maybe if thrifting culture offline isn't big where you live, you could look up local used clothes/stuff websites: like ebay, but the ones that base within your country. We have a big site like that in Russia (I'm from Russia), and it's pretty easy to both thrift and shop for antique stuff there. Especially now that y2k is a trend again, and I tend to see clothes from my teen years appear as "vintage" or even "retro" everywhere, lol.

@Axiniana the netherlands near the coast, probably only the curated stores are okay or the ones in big citys maybe, i do use vinted but often cute pieces are about as expensive as new ones

Fun Fact: Madison was inspired by a friend from Lily Martinez the creator of My Scene which is so cute. Also what’s your top 10 favorite my scene dolls that would be a fun video and then maybe a top 10 video of all the My Scene girlies dolls separately like a top 10 of Barbie dolls, a top 10 of Madison dolls, and a top 10 of Chelsea dolls and others like Nolee, Delancey, and Kenzie (excluding Kennedy but maybe a top 10 worst dolls of her Hee Hee!) but I wished we had more dolls of Jai from Jammin’ in Jamaica the darkest skinned My Scene character at least Bratz Felecia had 2 releases in the original run she deserved better and what was your favorite webisodes

the reason there’s my scene dolls on amazon for 40$ is because mattel recently renewed the my scene trademark, and released 3 dolls with brand new designs. this MIGHT mean we’re gonna get a revival/reboot.

I remember Madison being the only one with something of a career. She manages the band, she appears on a movie, she would have mini episodes about going to work interviews; she was easily the most memorable characyer because she was actually *doing* things If anything it would make sense for this version of Barbie to be jealous that she has no direction in life while Madison seemed to know what she wanted unlike the rest.
