Yeah it was founded and ran for few hundred years in secrecy until recent years. The church at the time of founding forbid group formation that could possibly question the teachings of the church...many secret societies were founded because of this. Prior to the Renaissance or the era of enlightenment, for example, saying earth wasn't the center of the universe was heretical against the church. Many members of many of these societies were intellectuals fond of science, theology, philosophy, astronomy, etc.(still religious to some degree) that wanted to explore ideas amongst one another without the ire of the church.

Joining the Freemasons is no secret. You must be a man of good character, and then find a Freemason and ask about joining. They will guide you from there. It may take many months, and there's no guarantee of admission, but that's how you do it. You just have to ask.

@@ExplainersEnigma Fair enough. My recommendation for that would be to do what I did: Go online, google the nearest Lodge to where you live, and send them an email. Most lodges have monthly public meetups where they invite any interested person from the public to come meet the lodge. That's what I did, and after about eight months of meeting with them and learning about them and asking questions, I petitioned to join and was voted in. Now I'm a 32 degree Master of the Royal Secret, and officer of my lodge. It's been a very fulfilling journey. Highly recommended for all good, virtuous, philosophically-minded men.

The knights Templars were not secret, they were the go to guys for protection when trying to visit the holy land, and were very prominent for centuries in Europe, even after the dissolution of the order they still became parts of others orders like the knights of Calatrava or Santiago in Spain.

No they aren’t, my mom, and some of my family members were part of them. They are very religion in fact, and while self punishing is just a way to make sure you don’t sin, it sounds harsh, but it’s not in bad intent. Also keeping secret your membership is false, many people openly talked about it. They just had more rights in the Church and didn’t have to ask the Vatican for permission to do things. It was just to give the Church a bad image.

Golden Dawn isnt really about wiccan magic..more so christian or jewish mysticism like the kaballah. Even so, its just one part of the organization and not the focus, focus is usually based on doctrines similar to Buddhism, like a guide or way of life to self improvement and improvement of human society. Do believe in spiritualism outside regular church-centric focus, but usually in tandem with one another...its long to explain that part lol..some exisiting societies ask that you must believe in a supreme universal power or force, doesnt need to be a specific one. Could be agnostic and still be a member

I must say that it is not correct that women can only join groups associated to the Freemasons (i.e. the Order of the Eastern Star). The world is plenty of Freemason societies, each one with its own tradition and many of them make no difference between women and men (especially in Europe). Edit: I forgot to say that there are also some women-only Freemason societies.

I'd say the video is mostly correct, but the segment on Opus dei is laughable. Where did you get your information on that? There's not much secret to Opus dei. Sure, there are things the public doesn't know, but any secular government works like that, as well. Opus dei is not as mystical as one might want it to sound. Sorry to disappoint!
