Awesome vid, I've been cleaning electronics for years and compressed air in a can has gotten super expensive from when I first discovered them. The cans are convenient but don't last very long. The best investment I made was getting a $50 air blower for electronics. You can go at all your electronics at the same time and you're buying the compressor, not the air. In a year or so you'll have saved money and your keyboard, PC, and consoles will be relatively clean

Had mine since launch in the UK. Last year it started powering off. Took the fan out, cleaned it, blow dust from the heatsink that I could. It would be ok for a month and then start shutting off again. Got fed up of it this year so figured it was out of warrenty now so let's get the thing pulled apart. Stripped it down to the last bolt and as I took out the heatsink and exposed the power pack, it looked like someone had moved in and layed a carpet over the power pack vents. Cleaned it off and my ps5 is running cool and quiet again. There are some very good tutorials that demonstrate step by step to guide you. Get right down to the power pack if you can and clear out all the holes. Made a massive difference.

I've been opening up my day 1 launch model and cleaning the dust by removing the fan blades, as well as cleaning the heatsink partially, about every 4-5 months ever since 2020. Make this a routined maintenance practice, and you should almost never have issues with the console overheating, as long as there's plenty of ventilation in your setup for the exhaust vents to escape heat of course.

Get a good computer vacuum. Don't use compressed air in a closed room (outside is best). But if you blow from the top, and blow from the bottom.... you actually blow the dust back inside the PS5. Do not "wiggle" get pinch-nose pliers and pull carefully up on the plug, never pull on the wires. Get a makeup brush to clean the fins, it is softer and has longer hairs. Compressed air is... compressed, which means that if you spray too long, the air might get "frozen" and now you are spraying water inside the unit.

This is beyond unnecessary. For any normal user, opening the case every 3-6 months and using a vacuum on the fan and the slots will eliminate all dust and debris build up. Asking people to start removing fans and other components will only lead to many more people with broken or damaged PS5’s. Also the “guide” for taking off the panels is about as detailed as gameboy graphics.

Dude. You have no idea the sht thats inside ps5. The radiators are so stupidly engineered. Vacuuming doesnt help a thing. Dust bunnies are roaming around between the radiators (suprise-suprise, there are more than one radiator). Even removing the fan doesnt help, because most of the dust is where you cant reach until you take the whole system apart. Worst part is that the power supply has tiiiiiny holes for cooling which get clogged with dust. Enjoy the repeated shutdown due to power supply/unit overheating.

@Appl_Jax
@Appl_Jax Жыл бұрын
@@lordeilluminati That doesn't sound right. These are mechanical devices that are literally a big moving part. Frictionless fans are not a thing and piezoelectric fans are not being used here. The blades of a fan are spinning on a bearing and are subject to basic physical properties. I don't know what PS5 fans use but (in general) they're not going to last forever. I used rubbing alcohol at first, but didn't do a great job. Then I used Dawn's Power Wash spray that did better. I was afraid to use too much force when taking the plates off, but you really need to apply some. One note - I used a T8 to unscrew the fan. Very important to mention fan connector is surface mounted to the pcb. It doesn’t have pins that go trough and solder. Many people tried to replace or just remove the fan and they ripped the whole fan connector off with its traces. At that point need a micro-soldering expert to repair your motherboard. Be very careful disconnecting the fan if the connector is stuck to hard leave it alone. Yank too hard and you effectively bricked your motherboard.

@@plasmaoctopus1728 I'm guessing that's the main reason for it besides maybe a cost saving measure/form of planned obsolescence But at that point it's clear that Microsoft asked the design team to make the series console the most optimal shape for airflow while Sony had a bit more of an emphasis on sleek futuristic design at the detriment of airflow Edit: also the way the X is designed having its intake be on the bottom (when upright) I feel is probably a reason you see a lot less dust accumulated than PS5 having it at the front when on the side and almost at the top when standing. Don't know how bad it is for the series S but mine is on it's side so both intakes are at the sides and the exhaust at the top. I'm guessing it would have similar problems to the ps5 if standing

Wasn't even that much dust or anything and I saw so many comments "DONT REMOVE THE FAN JUST SET IT TO THE SIDE VERY FRAGILE" so I did and it was harrowing As someone without a ton of money who doesn't do this often and has anxiety about messing something up, my PS5 is a gift from my wife as basically a next few xmas and bdays gift and I try to be extra careful with it. Thank you so much for this clear straight forward educational video on cleaning our PS5s. I really really appreciate it. I'll be rewatching next time I clean.

I'd like to point out though, never use a compress air into your ps5 console or any devices especially if you are not going to totally open up the system. Blowing air into your PS5 will only push dust, hair or any particle inside thus clogging the system further especially the power supply. I recommend using a mini vacuum* or a handheld vacuum to suck out those dust. Remember there are dust catcher in your ps5 with holes where you can put the vacuum to suck those dust/particles out.

The attachable fan that connects to the back of the ps5 for $19 on amazon is great it’s quiet and no matter how long I play it never kicks the fan into high as I used to when being really pushed by certain games.

I do this with ALL my consoles. From NES to PS5. If you are going to own consoles you NEED to know how to clean and even do some light repairs and maint on them. Its like owning cars. Some new some antiques, but you need to know how to work on them and maintain them.

I got the heat warning during the demo for FF16 and haven’t had it since. I have a regular console cleaning schedule so it was already cleaned. Super curious if that specific boss battle wasn’t optimized properly due to overclocking or something.

You DO NOT need to unplug your fan to clean the casing or the fan. It usually doesn't come up really easy and can rip the connectors from the Motherboard living you with NO FAN. Please be careful with it if you choose to remove it, it usually doesn't come up with your hand.

You ought to do more videos like this for other consoles. Disc based ones at least. I want to keep them clean and running right but I don't want to have to tear the whole thing apart. I mean I'd like to do more but I don't have the tools or the work space to do soldering or re-furbs and stuff.

I appreciate why he made this video but I don’t understand how people would beg for a cleaning guide. What he showed is essentially layman knowledge and nothing overly complex. I am hardly a tech nuffie but cleaned the PS5 every 2 or so months since launch. I thought everything was common sense.

I don't think it's common sense. It's simple sure but so is whistling. If someone has literally no idea how to do something and they want to do it they could potentially mess something up and fail. But once they know it was so simple they would be embarrassed that they didn't know how to do that thing at one point.

This video helps a lot as well as the one that helps you install the additional SDD (y). One of my favorite things about the PS5's design is that you can remove the fan without voiding the warranty! Even if I don't care about the warranty, I always hate ripping the stickers. Even my Playstation 2 and 3 that could use some repairs are left untouched because I don't want to damage the warranty stickers. Sony did a great job with this one!

I took off the plates to install an SSD a year after getting my PS5. Didnt use it much the first year but i was surprised there wasn't much dust at all. I've used my PS5 almost daily the past year and I've taken off the plates maybe 10 times and there's always minimal light dust. Fan doesnt look dusty and the heat sink looks fine. I use a handheld vacuum and microfiber cloth to clean the shell and grills. Helps to dust my area once a week.

Do not spray Compress air into the heat sink. It will push the dust into the Back of the PS5 creating a blockage or just pushing dust into the motherboard. Just Vacuum whatever you see and if you have a 2nd Vacuum use negative pressure by Vaccuming the Heatsink and the back of the PS5 at the same time.

Overheating episodes were bound to happen, the moment that they started producing PS5s with heatsinks in aluminum instead of copper. This said, this console was basically designed to be opened and cleaned internally.
