As a long-time PC gamer, one of my go-to troubleshooting methods for USB is to try a different port. Also, always have the dongle on the same side of the machine to where you're using it. I once had to run a USB extender cord so my dongle could detect my mouse reliably.

Haven't had this issue with my PS5, but I personally like having those dongles in the rear of my PC and I was having connectivity issues with a wireless mouse and keyboard. The keyboard would drop inputs and such. Finally moved it to the front of the tower and haven't had an issue since. It's amazing what difference a little over a foot and unobstructed airspace can do.

As a PS5 and Pulse 3D user, I can confirm this. I used the back USB ports in the beginning but I had connectivity and sound issues. I was worried that I had a faulty unit but when I checked the USB dongle, it was so warm that I immediately moved it to the front USB port and having no issues since then.

I have a different headset but I had the exact same experience. I have a Turtle Beach headset. I had just gotten it and I loved how it sounded playing audio from my phone and from the PS5, and especially how it could play audio from both at the same time, when it actually worked with the PS5 that is. It didn't take long to start experiencing connectivity and sound issues. I thought my awesome new headset was defective. It was the first really expensive headset I'd ever bought and I was very upset but it occurred to me that I should do what I would do if I was using it with a computer, switch USB ports. I did that and the issues immediately stopped. It hadn't occurred to me that it was the heat that caused the issues. I was just happy it was good.

To prevent any accidents with the dongle sticking out, I decided to be a little more creative with the position of mine. With the GTbeans 24pin magnetic USB-C rightangle adapter, I use the same on my tablet, so I can very easily switch between the two. I have no problems with this setup. Dead easy to remove and replace, and no accidental breaking of any USB ports. I'd highly recommend it, if you don't use that USB-C in the front for anything else.

Also with an addition storage M.2 slot there's more heat introduced to the system. I'm currently adding some things to combat that. Such as a Sabrent heat sink replacement for the M.2 panel. Informative video. I have encountered interference issues in relation to external hard drives in neighbouring USB ports previously. Research has shown the 2.4hz signals can be interrupted by USB ports. My fix for this was to buy a short USB extension cable, plug the dongle into that and your interruptions should stop. Sounds to me more like a wireless signal issue than anything else, as a rule of thumb, you want those RF transceivers to be in direct line of sight and in close range, as they usually don't have good antennas (to save cost, space and have better aesthetic for the most part, people just don't like an antenna sticking out, even though it's still the most viable effective solution) and these devices usually have to operate in high RF noise environment (a lot of devices operating in the same frequency allocation) so the range is usually a lot more limited than people anticipated.

Alternatively, you could use a USB cable/adapter that you plug into the rear port and hide under the PS5 where it's out of sight, or somewhere else where it's easier for the headphones to pick up the signal. You can plug the dongle into it. (This might be optimal for steelseries 7+ users.) This way you don't have to use the front port and you won't accidentally damage the PS5.

I don’t have the Pulse 3D headset yet but anticipate getting them when I have the extra money to spend. I hadn’t thought about this but it makes total sense and almost seems obvious when you actually describe it. Thanks for the tip, your videos are the best for newer PS5 users. (Your PS4 videos rock also)

I had it connected on the back since I bought it, and never a problem, that was until recent updates a couple of days ago.

For the price they really should build the dongle's wireless signal component into the PS5. Extra cost not everyone might need, but they also put the PSVR PS5 adapter cable in the box of every PSVR after a certain point too. It would just be a nice touch at any rate.

My Logitech headsets dongle used to get pretty warm after an hour or so of use. My ps5 sits on the middle shelf of my desk and is open to the air. Exhaust vents warm it up quick even with proper airflow. I’ve started plugging my g923 wheel into the back now and the headset in the front. So far no problems

And for anyone who has unplugged the dongle after the PS5 has been running for some time, the USB part on the end gets very hot to the point where it can actually burn if you touch it.

I also own the 3D headset and have occasionally heard something similar to static or audio breakup. It doesn't happen when I first start but after long sessions will I begin to experience static like noise and breakup.

I use it in the back. Not had any issues since launch. After you turn on the console from rest mode if the head set was charging then it might have trouble detecting the dongle but all you need to do it’s turn the head set off and then on again and it’s back in business and you can start gaming in no time.

I have a PS5 3D Pulse headset and plug my dongle in the back. There is a catch though. I noticed very early of doing it that I would get connectivity issues with the audio cutting in and out and poor range. Instead of moving it up front I just got a USB extension cord, plugged that in the back, and then ran that cord up to a forward position within my media cabinet mounted with double sided tape. With this set up I have a safe plug for the dongle that is unobstructed and perfect connection without the eye sore that would be a connection hanging out the front of the console!!

I didn’t have issues with heat having the dongle in the back, it was having a USB hard drive plugged into the back at the same time that caused the connection to cut out.

They should just release an update that allows users to use Bluetooth headsets. This would probably solve alot of issues and it already has Bluetooth built-in. And release this feature for PS4 too.
