I agree wholeheartedly with Creed 3 criticism...I wish he got Dame a few pro fights and they could have flashed through that... plus using Dame's amateur background as golden gloves champ could have got him to the big fight...they went about that wrong..they cut a lot out that was in the trailer but great movie overall

You know, of all the modern “legacy” sequels and/or remakes, I truly think that the Creed trilogy is one of, if not THE, best examples of how to do it. Truly an excellent follow up to a classic franchise.

Movies like Creed and Top Gun: Maverick really show how well legacy sequels/reboots/requels can work with the right crew and creative team behind them. Rocky IV is the most rewatchable out all of them with the best final fight. Almost 40 years later and it still makes you sit up in your seat during the final fight. They really put in a supreme effort there. The soundtrack is still amazing and Vince DiCola made some incredible contributions to it.

Agreed. A little more build up and animosity between Donny and Dame. Have Dame in public humiliating him. Dame's rise and respect as a fighter wouldn't made a big difference. Still a good film.

It felt like that although the movie did a great job getting straight to the point. They could've had a montage of Damien winning more fights and showing his lifestyle and possibly there could've been a scene where he fights Drago and obviously wins and that could lead up to the final fight.

IGN also ranked Rocky II 2nd to last. I really thought people were higher on that one. It's always been my personal favorite. The scene where duke tries to convince apollo not to go after rocky again was great, as was rocky's emotion after winning. "YO ADRIAN.....I DID IT!!!! "

Your Rocky Balboa story is not that silly Sean.... My Wife and I were expecting our first child around December 20th 2006- and after a false start - we left the hospital- decided to go see Balboa. Loved it. Our Son was born dec 21 st. Now watching the whole series with our Son, who loves movies- we just finished Creed last night. I have an even better appreciation of the whole series - after watching it with him. I do think Rocky Balboa is my favorite. Your channel is great btw- thanks for all you do.

What I liked about Creed 3's antagonist is you really get where Damian's desperation comes from and how it drives his more extreme ruthless actions. He says himself he doesn't have a lot of time left and the movie leaves no doubt that this man is debateably past that prime window for a boxer.. that's why he gets dirty... that's why he pushes it behind the scenes to set up the title shot... and while he's not an iron tank like Drago (we see him take some pretty significant damage in both fights against Chavez and against Adonis) he's just so unhinged and experienced enough that he's unpredictable and honestly scary. This is a man who's been robbed of the best years of his life and he's going to make sure you feel that pain he has inside if you have the misfortune of standing across fom him in a boxing ring.

Donnie isn't even in Creed 3 he's become Adonis. Adonis isn't a sympathetic character he's basically Apollo from Rocky 1. There's just no stakes in their fight its two past their prime boxers essentially fighting over ego. If anything the better movie would have been Adonis training the fighter Damian cheated to beat

I'm 49 I watched my first Rocky movie R3 in theaters at age 7 , I saw R4 in theaters at age 10 and I agree , Rocky4 is under rated , I have it as the #1 Rocky movie. Creed 2 in my mind is a direct sequel. If I am making Creed 4 I would mirror Rocky 4 and make it a rematch to Rocky 4 and have an aponent kill Adonis in the ring and Drago evenge Adonis death. They shoukd have had Adonis and Creed become friends in Creed 3 and Creed 4 mirror, R4

I recently rewatched Creed 2 & it hit me even more than it did before. The theme of fatherhood & those learning curves along the way really stood out. It’s a movie that lays the groundwork all the way through & that doesn’t works for the general audience. But when Ivan waved the towel for his son & truly showed that he loved him above all else…yea. Great film. Also Creed is absolutely a better fill than Rocky, but we all knew what would be number 1! Lol

Man it's my least favorite it's like the character of Donnie we loved was replaced by Adonis. The Adonis character is basically Apollo from Rocky 1. Their fight seemed like a sparing match between 2 men who were motivated only by their own egos

Creed II - I personally feel this film as far too many plot contrivances to not be at the bottom of the Creed films here. I did give the film 4 stars but the plot certainly as many holes. 05. Rocky IV 04. Rocky Balboa 03. Creed 02. Creed III - Just feel this film is so personal and creates a backstory for Dame while moving on the Adonis story, This for me is a fantastic film with incredible performances and a well told story with tons of heart the one thing I expected this film to lack it didn't in the end love it 5 stars from me personally. The least formulaic and most inventive and biggest risks taken in the franchise. I feel they paid off in spades. Jonathan Majors is incredible in this film and elevates it to a different level kind of movie for me. 01. Rocky - Well we knew this would be number 1 and probs will be on everyones list its just that damn good.

I think my ranking would probably have to be(excluding Creed 3 until I see it): 8. Rocky 5(self explanatory) 7. Rocky 2(same reasons as Sean) 6. Rocky(the main reason this is so slow is because I just find Mickeys change of heart with training Rocky a bit too sudden rewatching it a few days ago it’s like Rocky gets the fight and Mick just changes his mind) 5. Rocky IV (a bit too 80s for this 90s baby but still love it) 4. Rocky III (Clubber Lang is the king of trash talk) 3. Creed 2(love the humanizing of Drago, the training scenes, Victor destroying Creed in their first fight is super reminiscent of Rocky losing to Clubber Lang, the ending fight might be my favorite in the series with one of my favorite moments in the final fight when the ref checks on Creed after he pounds the mat and pushes himself to his feet and asks his name and he just goes “CREED!!!” I have no idea why but I get hyped af and end up goin “you damn right let’s go!” Every single time 2. Creed(this one to me is probably the best written of the films with Donny’s journey, finding Rocky and his sort of state of almost hopelessness? and that moment in the final fight with Adonis goin “I have to prove it that I’m not a mistake” is something I relate to so much personally and Rocky’s speech to him when he says that gets me everytime) 1. Rocky Balboa(having this one this high is probably a bit of a hot take but idc, Stallone did his thing in this one and I love every second. The speech he gives his son outside the restaurant is one I go back to whenever I need some grounding and reminder to just keep pushing, this is my favorite one to rewatch)

Saw Creed 3 today. I understand some of the flaws people are pointing, but the highs are so high for me that the lows didn't mean much whilst watching the movie. I think Creed 3 is absolutely stellar. It would be way, way, way up there on my list. Don't know how it fares against Rocky or Creed 1, Creed 3 is such a different movie, but I freaking loved it. Would put it above Creed 2 and most of the Rocky sequels.

Last year I watched Uncharted and the audience gave it 3 standing ovations (when it ended and after each of the post credit scenes). Not me, I left dissapointed. Wish I had their experience, just like I wish you had mine with Creed 3. But it is what it is.

@@ivangabriel4868 exactly I agree. Biggest problems with Creed 3 for me was just how unrealistic it was. Damien who had never had a professional fight in his life gets a shot at the title just because he knows Adonis, and then wins by throwing 3 illegal punches, kicking and elbowing. That just seemed ridiculous. Also wasn’t a fan of the anime dream fight. But there was elements of the film I liked. The stuff with the daughter was nice, the training montage was pretty good, and it was a very sad emotional scene when Mary Ann died.

I really like Rocky 5. I actually look at it as a Rocky 4.5. You are seeing the aftermath of his Drago fight. The PTSD, the reverting back to pre Rocky 3 era kind of Rocky. He clung to Tommy due to missing Apollo which caused a bit of a fallout to his family. It all fits.

My rankings 1. Rocky 2- my favorite final fight 2. Rocky 3- I have a top 12 Rocky/Creed characters list & my top 3 are 1. Clubber 2. Rocky 3. Apollo (this movie delivers on those 3 in spades) & this movie has my favorite training montage. Thunderlips is #12 on my list. 3. Creed- probably the most well made movie of the whole franchise. Adonis is # 4 on my list. 4. Rocky Balboa- I love the Little Marie character. She is #5 on my list & this is controversial but I have her higher than Bianca #9 & Adrian #10 5. Creed 3- love Johnathan majors. Dame is #6 on my list & I wish we had more of him. Also I enjoy the risk the final fight did but just like Dame I wish we had more of it. 6. Creed 2- love how this gave Drago (#8 on my list) more depth & the throwing of the towel was a pleasant surprise. 7. Rocky- this is controversial but the reason why I have Rocky 2, Creed & Rocky Balboa higher on the list is because I feel they are better more improved versions of this story. 8. ROCKY V- Again very controversial but I love the street fight (my 3rd favorite final fight) and I love me some George Washington Duke #7 on my list. 9. Rocky 4- I love all these movies but this one has always been my least favorite because of the lack of realism in all phases. For me the director's cut is a improvement & I love that final fight (2nd favorite final fight over the theatrical cut which was never as good for me). Finally Pauli is #11 on my list.

I stood up and pointed at the TV when I saw Rocky 3's ranking. It's the goat. If you were 10 years older, you'd have more respect for this movie. Your analysis was really good though, and the stuff you picked up on was really pro. You sound like a writer (I'm a 20-year book editor)

Definitely one of the best franchises ever made and I'm so glad that Creed came about to carry on the legacy of not one, but two great characters. Rocky 5 is the only movie in the series that did not work for me, but I still watch it. I'm not sure how to best rank these to be honest, but when I was young, Rocky 4 was disappointing in that it felt like it had the most hype, but the actual boxing scenes are not that great; Rocky 3 surprising has probably the best actual boxing-action imo for the series - though I absolutely agree about the bizarre change in Rocky's behavior and coming off as more educated and polished. I also wish that Duke had been given a little more in Rocky 4, but it is still one of my favorites in the series. The original Rocky is easily one of my favorite movies of all time and it's almost impossible to describe that magic that this movie captures with the setting and Philly culture, the pacing, the perfect balance between the quieter moments and action scenes. A truly rare perfect movie.

As someone who just watched all the films. I can say rocky 2 is my favorite, the creed films are great, the second is better than the first, rocky 5 isn't horrible, but far from great, and rocky 1 is kinda overrated, and rocky 4 is better than rocky 3

I just finished watching the franchise (thanks to your recommendation!!) And i have to say all of them are good to great except one, in my opinion. SPOILERS AHEAD! 9. Rocky IV (easily last for me. Just stupid. Like, a robot lover for paulie....what are we doing? Everything was done better already at that point. The Montages, the fights, the characters) 8. Rocky II (interesting to see rocky as the fish out of water. But that is much less interesting than the first's story. I see them as two parts of one story. So that hurts this one) 7. Rocky V (i liked the drama of this one. Do wish tommy had come around in the end. A street fight is an odd change, but hey, it's different.) 🎉Big Jump in My liking🎉 6. Rocky Balboa (i loved this one! So much emotion here. I liked all the reminiscing. Even seeing Paulie break down got me actually feeling for him instead of hating him. Lol! And amazingly Rocky STILL FEELS LIKE ROCKY!! It's the same character!!! The opponent is very blah. He was never that villainous or heroic. He was just there.) 5. Rocky (the original! A great underdog story. Introducing us to this crazy loveable character! The montage!! When he's running...goosebumps! 😊) 4. Rocky III (the bromance!!! I love it so much! A basic, one dimensional villain is given life thanks to it being Mr. T. Of all the Rockys, i felt the progress of the montage the most in this one as he has to change his style.) - Now....I loved the Creeds, and have a hard time choosing one as best. I feel like Rocky 3 should move up a bit and Creed shouldn't sweep the top 3 (Because i ADORE Rocky 3!!) but i really don't know what Creeds i would drop, so... 3. Creed (perfect passing of the torch. Still full of heart. Amazing modern action! That one-shot fight!!! Do wish Adonis had won. Like, maybe sometimes we can win on the first try!) 2. Creed II (loved the Drago humanization. And more awesome family drama with Rocky and the Creeds. I can't believe they made a whole bunch of new characters that i love and care about!!) 1. Creed III (Another amazing Creed film!! Love the family! Rocky's absence is absolutely NOT felt. They did a fantastic job at transitioning to Creed. He totally carries this. Majors is great as the villain and it gets very personal, so much that I'm not sure the reconciliation at the end it totally earned.) I had...the time of my life watching these films. And i owe it all to you, Mr. Chandler! I always thought of Stallone as a bad actor just because his characters were all weird and speak a little funny. Or speak not at all. But your love of him got me to watch this as well as the Rambos. And i love him in dang near every single one!! Thank you, Sean!

I've been obsessed with Rocky for most of my life - since well before Rocky II came out. I've seen Rocky through Rocky IV at least 20 times each, but I haven't seen Creed III yet. 9. Rocky V - I saw this on the flight home from Desert Storm. Coming home from a war and getting a new Rocky movie to watch - imagine how jazzed I was! Then imagine my horror at the steaming pile that showed up on the screen. My anger probably makes the movie seem worse in my memory than it actually was, but I doubt it. 8. Creed II - This was the only other movie in the series I was disappointed in when I first saw it. I left the theater feeling I'd just seen something second rate, something trying to be more than it could. It's been much better on rewatches, though. Solid, but as you've said, that's how good these movies are. Something has to come in last. 7. Rocky IV - Another movie that's become so much better on rewatches, but it still has dumb stuff (that was later fixed). 6. Creed - Rocky shines in his new role. I love Apollo, but Adonis is not Apollo and is definitely not Rocky. 4-5. Rocky II/Rocky Balboa - I honestly can't decide, so like a coward I made a tie. They're both fantastic. Fun fact: I saw Rocky II at the show more times than any other movie ever. 3. Rocky III - Fun, fantastic, and flawless. I see no downside, nor anything cheesy. 2. Rocky vs. Drago - This cut corrects all of the flaws of Rocky IV and elevates it past even Rocky III. Even the fight scenes are so much more realistic. 1. Rocky - Easily one of the best movies ever made and the father of so many great characters who have endured through 8 movies and 40 years of cultural change. The soundtrack is epic beyond belief, beyond what is reasonable for music written strictly for a movie. The music is so good it's like it's own character.

Just rewatched all of them since Creed III just came on Prime. I would personally rank them 9) Rocky V - Agree they did try some things that I really liked, just the complete switch back to an actual movie not just easy watch like III&IV was too drastic for them to miss on the story the way they did. They focus a little too much on his son, and it really convolutes the time line, because how did he grow so much if it's right after IV? They make Rocky completely too dumb in this movie. Also hard to believe he would be completely broke due to that situation. 8) Rocky Balboa - I really do like the movie, this was the first Rocky movie of my lifetime. They really have a lot of heavy themes that play out well throughout. I like the way they humanize Mason Dixon a bit. Rocky's son is annoying and self-centered, but I like how Rocky is a surrogate father type to both Little Marie and Steps. Just if I could only choose 1, I probably wouldn't choose it over the next 2. 7) Rocky III 6) Rocky IV - I'm putting them back to back this way because they're too similar in the way that you really just turn your brain off and watch for enjoyment. I really didn't like how Adrian who plays such a prominent part in the first 2 movies really gets pushed aside outside of her one long monologue in each movie. The reason why I'm putting IV ahead of III is really because I feel like the task of beating Drago is larger than beating Clubber, his wife even says it's suicide. (Also how he appears smarter in III movie is because it's been 3 years since the previous movie, and in II you can see he's making an effort to be more intelligent) 5) Creed II 4) Creed III - Another one where I feel like I have to talk in tandem. Both are really good sequels, I personally put III ahead of II. I know bringing back Drago and extending that storyline, will probably have a lot of people flip these two. I think they do a decent job portraying their hardships, but it's hard to separate Viktor from Ivan and Viktor isn't quite as menacing as his father. I'll probably get looked at crazy, but I believe Dame is the second best antagonist in the series outside of Apollo. Without a doubt he's the most humanized.. I mean imagine going down for sticking up for someone else, and like he said, watching him live out the life he was supposed to have. (Also the only people who knew Dame was behind the assault is Adonis and his mother, and he wasn't going to turn his friend who he debatably owes his life to in) 3) Creed - They do an amazing job making an original orgin story and picking up on the Rocky story. The antagonist is the most forgettable of the series, but this movie has soo much going for it, that it doesn't even matter. It's not quite the underdog story as the original Rocky, but it's an amazing story of being true to yourself no matter who wants to stop you from becoming it. 2) Rocky II - I can see how in the original series, this could be near the bottom of the list.. but I just can agree they enjoy watching GOOD movies. I can see how you could be bored watching this movie if you're looking for a boxing movie, but this is easily the most emotional movie in the entire franchise. I can't think of a movie where the protagonist gets beat down by life more than Rocky in this movie. Goes from fighting for the heavyweight championship, to getting let go at a meat packing joint. Only views himself as a fighter but he can't fight because he has a bad eye. When he does accept the fight he's so messed up about going against his wife's wishes and stresses her out so bad she hemorrhages and goes into a coma. You also can feel for Apollo, how angry he is that people doubt him as a champion and the conflicting feelings after the first fight. "Yo Adrian, I did it!" How does that not break you up with satisfaction after he finally wins the fight? I'm so tempted to put it at 1. 1) Rocky - It's at 1 for me simply out of respect for it being the best underdog story of all time. It does an amazing job of establishing some of the most iconic characters in cinematic history. You just have to have it at #1

Here’s what I have to say about this franchise (keep in mind that I haven’t watched Creed 3 yet): #8 Rocky 5; Even though this movie has been panned to death, I still find it okay probably because of the way Stallone writes his own story, but in general I find it to be a dull film, and much like what Sean said it doesn’t feel inspirational like most of the other films, and Tommy just isn’t that great of a character, but most importantly, I thought the announcer was just so freaking annoying the entire time 😄 #7 Rocky Balboa; Kind of a hot take but I’ve just never really loved this film, still think it’s solid, but in general, I think that almost every character in this film was too much of a jerk too, especially Mason, who’s arrogant and condescending, which just made me mad when he’s talking down to Rocky, I wanted to see him loose so badly, and I didn’t get that, and his anger is caused by the public, so almost all of the people are total jerks, and Paulie, who has been presented as angry before, is at his worst in this film, and it’s hard to watch, I also tend to feel like Adrian is missing in the movie because she was a cherry on top for the inspiration, but I will say the father and son relationship was handled really well, I wish I had more positives to say, but overall I can’t put this movie any higher #6 Rocky 2; Every time I watch this film, I think I’m gonna like it more than I actually do, now to be fair, there are some iconic moments, and this is a movie I tend to find really funny at times with lines like “Do I look lucky?” but in general kind of feels like a rehash and felt like Rocky as a character has already been established, so they didn’t really know where to take things so it kind of meanders a good bit, and while I find it funny, it does mean Rocky’s unintelligence is taken to 11, there are good things in this movie but I don’t really rewatch it that much #5 Creed; Now this is the most frustrating movie on this list for me because Adonis is a fantastic character, his relationship with Rocky is so well developed, but you also have Paulie dead, and he was one of my favorite characters and I know the restrictions but like with Adrian his charm just feels missing, the adversaries are totally forgettable, there not at all established like Apollo, so I can’t put this film in my top 3, as much as I want to #4 Rocky 4; I know I’m gonna have some particularly angry Creed fans for putting this movie above Creed, but in general I think Creed 2 elevated this film quite a bit for me, I totally understand that it’s goofy, I understand why it doesn’t quite work with Apollo’s death, but this movie is so entertaining and so re-watchable, “You have a problem with that?” #3 Creed 2; I find this a much more satisfying film than the original Creed because it doesn’t feel like a rehash of the Rocky movies, it feels like more of an Adonis story, and the adversary is improved by 10 miles, it does take plot points of Rocky 2 and 3, but those are iconic movies so I don’t mind, so might be an unpopular opinion, but I love this sequel #2 Rocky; I am well aware that this is a controversial pick, but that doesn’t take away the fact that this is a phenomenal film, every character is interesting, so Apollo, a man who wants a show, Paulie, a good man who’s anger is pushed by alcohol, Adrian, a person who’s afraid to go out with someone she knows has a shady past, and of course you have to talk about Rocky, someone who’s has such a troubled history which causes a good friend in Mickey, to dislike him in this movie, so everything in this movie shines, but we have one more spot #1 Rocky 3; I’ll be honest, ever since I’ve watched this movie, I’ve never felt so uplifted, particularly because the story of becoming something you’re not is something that has a soft spot in my heart, Rocky starts becoming Apollo, so he starts descending into a wrong path, and that causes him to be humiliated and that storytelling is amazing to me, add to that you have a great adversary in Clubber Lang who is just so viscous and nasty that it’s satisfying watching him getting punched in the face, and that bromance is so uplifting for me and I love that Rocky went from such a low becoming Apollo, to such a high having proven his strength and gaining a new friend in the process, I’m also a total 80s geek so Eye of the Tiger is one of my favorite songs, and all of that came, from my favorite Rocky movie

It's difficult to rank because do you think of them from the perspective of a middle aged person, or from the perspective you were when they were released. For example, Rocky the original was my least favorite as a kid but I have a significantly different perspective of it as an adult.
