Every SALMON Angler needs THIS Fly!

It would be no understatement to say this fly probably catches more salmon than any other pattern across the world today! This pattern will catch salmon from opening day to closing day, fresh or resident fish, on all rivers. I have caught salmon on large tubes down to size 18s with this green butt cascade salmon fly.

Dressing:
Tag: Silver oval tinsel or wire
Tail: Orange and yellow bucktail mixed with pearl flash above
Butt: Fluorescent green floss
Rear body: Silver mylar or flat braid
Front body: Black floss
Rib: Silver oval tinsel or wire
Wing: Grey squirrel dyed black with pearl flash above
Hackle: Hot orange over yellow

That's how I use to do it Shaun but started favouring an unvarnished butt and just a rib over to protect. I ended up doing a combination of both this time for some reason 😂

Sean where would you advise buying the materials to tie, I have a vice. In Ireland.

I buy materials from several different suppliers across the island, depending on what I need. If I was to choose one with consistency in quality and in stock it would be Pat Nolan in premier angling. Other great dealers are Irish fly supplies, foyle fly tying and mid Antrim angling. Hope that helps 👍

Sean is that a patriot hook or salar. Do you know where I could pick up salars?

Yes that's on a patriot. They are my favourite hooks to fish and I prefer them over salars. The only salars I really like is the size 15s. Hard to get now but try Pat Nolan at premier angling. A guy on Facebook, Willie Darragh, was also selling some recently in bulk. Hope that helps?

Hi there, most fly tyers will be able to tie these to order for you and it is used well throughout the world. Just ask for green butt cascades. What is the reason for the 2 hooks myself I'm single barbless guy and that's law in BC Canada rivers but even if I could use those doubles I wouldn't I get way deeper hooksets with single hooks. Not putting you or your hooks down just trying to figure the reason for using them

Hi Eric. Throughout Ireland there are various different hook type requirements, barbless singles, barbless doubles or any barbed hook including trebles. In my experience the doubles hook and hold better than trebles or barbless singles. I do this at a risk knowing the very occasional salmon can't be released but this is only on rivers that allow. On catch and release rivers it's all barbless singles for me. I also feel the doubles swim much better and sink a little quicker than singles

thanks for letting me know that I had never seen those hooks before we have trebles but no doubles. One day I hope to come to the UK and try to get 1 there here from farms ripping open but usually small and killed right away. Anyway you ever find yourself on Vancouver Island and want to try steelhead or our salmon halibut let me know tight lines
