The reason for the sprite battles lack of quality through this season, is because most (if not all) members of sprite animators left ScrewAttack, and formed HyperGauge, where they continued One Minute Melee. Meanwhile DEATH BATTLE! had to start getting people fast. While some of the HyperGauge animators eventually went back to DB, the new "rookie" animators that they got in Season 3 have *now grown a lot* and they're work is stellar!

To this day it still impresses me how well Hulk vs Doomsday did making every hit feel impactful. The sound design is incredible and make the hits feel incredibly powerful despite the relatively small scale of the fight

Dante vs Bayonetta is such a gold standard for me. I understand everyone prefers proper settup and storylines, but Death Battle fits perfectly with the action over plot nature of these two franchises. Polish down the handful of janky momments, and I wouldn't blink twice if I was told this was an official crossover licensed by Platinum Games/Capcom.

Season 3 had some issues. But I feel the reason peoples hate on it so much is because they only remember the absolutely terrible episodes they gave us this season (which was most of them Lamo) But it still gave us some fucking phenomenal episodes which were some of the best of the series - Dante Bayaneta - Ratchet and Clank VS Kack and Daxter - Hulk Doomsdsy - Zoro Erza - Even Ken Terry But for the most part almost everything else was just… 😒 (Key word almost, There’s still some good episodes in this season past the 5 I mentioned, Those we’re just the ones I’ve seen get the most positive reputation out of the season

Your thoughts on this seasons are basically the same as mine. This season was carried so hard by Torian that i wouldn't be surprised if he still has complaints about his back to this very day. I don't know what happened when it comes to the sprite episodes but this was one hell of a slump for sprite episodes.

I don't know anyone personally who likes this show, so hearing you rant about the crappy bits and gush about the amazing stuff like Hulk vs Doomsday and Meta vs Coraline feels satisfying, hearing you say what I wanna yap about as a fan since season 1. I'm super glad you enjoyed Ratchet and Clank vs Jak and Daxter too, it's incredible but I've rarely seen it mentioned anywhere. These videos were all definitely worth the monstrous amount of work it must've taken. I look forward to the rest, even if I barely remember anything from S4.

Once again this is a pretty great list, I feel like the main issue with this season is that the episodes are either absolute bangers or something that would make me rather go to the bathroom after having an ultra spicy hot wings combo. Sooo here are my thoughts because I have nothing better to do on a Saturday afternoon. 14 - Yeah I still utterly despise Shadow VS Mewtwo. Luckily Shadow isn't as shit on as I remember, but it doesn't change the fact that the episode was such a waste of time. The animation was practically unfinished, the voice acting is pretty bad (not really the VAs' faults but still), and I don't care how ironic it is I fucking hate the death. For me it just adds to the spite and it just feels lazy. If even 13 year old me felt like there was something wrong with the episode then that's a reaaaaaaal big problem. Despite this being a 1/10 for me, as you stated this isn't nearly the worst VS show episode I've ever seen (The *original* Bill Cipher VS Sans from Cartoon Fight Bad), nor is it even the worst Death Battle episode (Justin Bieber VS Rebecca Black is a 0/10 because it is not an episode, but rather a death threat). Still, I'm never watching this episode again. 13 - Cammy VS Sonia hurts my eyes. Luckily there isn't anything absolutely insulting, it's just.....bad. It's not something where polishing could make it much better, since the animation itself is still pretty boring. I'm just glad Luis got more chances to show what he can really do. 12 - I kinda don't feel like going into the conclusion for Tracer VS Scout so I'll just get to the point. Beginning of the matchup is fun and Anarchy Reigns OST is goated, but some of the choreography and writing izzzzzz stupid. Scout barely gets to do anything and they manage to get the arsenal of both Tracer AND Scout wrong. I really hope TF2 gets to be on the show again, here's to hoping that Sarge VS Soldier or Medic VS Richtofen will eventually happen because both of those MUs are goated. 11 - Bowser VS Ganon is still one of the most disappointing episodes for me, since everything about the episode feels slow and painfully boring. Imagine taking two of the most iconic video game villains and doing barely anything with them, I mean there are a couple of unique moments but still, it's kind of a nothing burger for me. Again, I don't feel like going into the conclusion. 10 - If I was judging Deadpool VS Pinkie Pie as just an episode, it would be like a 5/10 for me, but unfortunately because it's the finale it feels like an absolute slap in the face. It had the potential to be really fun and over the top, but it kind of just takes the most obnoxious parts of both characters and inevitably crank them up. The first half is fun and the second is a slog. 9 - Amy VS Ramona is an episode that exists. Sadly I have almost nothing to say besides it being really boring, it's more like a 5/10 for me but I have no feelings for it. Forgettability is a fate worse than death, idk I think someone said that. 8 - I would've expected more meh episodes, but I guess after Flash VS Quicksilver that's kinda it. It definitely feels high speed and the Flash monologue is S Tier stuff....too bad the shit death ruined it. Yeahhhh the episode is kind of boring, I only have so much I can defend it with. It's still alright to me but it has a lot of unfortunate problems. 7 - Ken VS Terry is surprisingly pretty fun, it's got a lot of high speed and intense action even if it's nothing truly special. I dunno, it's a nice little sprite episode to fill the gap. 6 - Back when I first watched it Joker VS Sweet Tooth was still one of my favorite episodes, granted it was a 9/10 but I still absolutely loved it. But looking back, I don't feel like Sweet Tooth got much to do, or did it truly make use of both characters. Again, it really picks up in the second half and hey, the analysis was still enjoyable enough, but there could've been more. Still, the death manages to make up with how chilling it is, demonstrating that you don't need a gorefest to make an excellent kill. I still have a soft spot for this episode since we really got Joker, though I definitely wouldn't mind both characters getting a second shot on the show. Joker could fight Kefka in his Emperor version and Sweet Tooth.....uhhh I heard Roadhog is an option so you can have a Mad Max esque fight with that. 5 - Is Carolina VS Meta an underrated episode. I mean I don't often hear people's opinions on this one, sooooo eh. I love the unique take on this being moreso a Red VS Blue episode with stuff like the interactions and overall vibe. And hey the Boomstick dad joke was actually funny and relevant, what an achievement. The fight is also really great, choreography is generally solid and the music really fits, did I mention that Slingshot is just golden? Hm hm now I have, hopefully DB tries to get more unique like this episode....y'know a genuinely fun crossover that makes sense, rather than something like the Seven Battle Royale where they never shut up about the Amazon Original Series The Boys for the ten millionth time. 4 - Even after all of this time Zoro VS Erza is preem. It really feels like the animation made good use of the abilities of both characters and just in general it's a really great time. There's only like a couple of issues I can point out like that Zoro shot being ripped from the anime....then again it's not like it was the first time Season 3 took a render of a character from something else (Mewtwo). 3 - I'm so glad that Ratcher & Clank VS Jak & Daxter happened, once upon a time it was one of my most wanted MUs, nowadays I'm surprised by how early it happened. The interactions and analysis are fun, the abilities and trade-offs are well done, and it's just a boatload of chaotic action. And hey they did the exact thing that one youtuber mentioned where Daxter got sucked up and launched into the sky, interesting. Oh yeah and the way both duos work together really show how excellent they are as a team, and it's not like Shadow VS Ryuko where Senkutsu is insulted for no reason which was clearly a terrible understanding of the character- yeah sorry I got off topic. Besides the ever semi-rough rendering of both characters, I cannot point out a single flaw of this otherwise excellent episode.....except that one frame in the analysis where they showed that STUPID PIECE OF SHIT COUNT VEGER- 2 - It's honestly amazing how much heart and soul was put into Dante VS Bayonetta, nowadays it'd be like 4 minutes at best. Which makes Torrian's restless work even more impressive, like seriously I hope the guy got a well deserved rest after that. I mean what can I say the episode is just a relentless amount of sheer action, like every minute I felt like they managed to throw another thing in that managed to keep me on the edge of my seat. The sudden duo action was also more than a welcome addition, and the death was also pretty good and hey it made excellent use of music change. They really wanted to make a good impression with Season 3 by making this premiere, despite all of this there was still something else later down the line. 1 - Hulk VS Doomsday is still one of my personal favorite episodes of all time, then again it's not like that's much of an unpopular opinion. What can I say that hasn't been said yet? The animation is top notch, every hit feels like it has impact (like a single slam on the ground had more impact than a planet exploding in a Season 7 episode), and it's just a sheer pack of adrenaline. I also have a couple of personal reasons why I enjoy this episode so much how bonkers, at the time this came out it was my first few months of Freshman year and it was definitely a high point, at least wayyy better than the shitstorm I was in during middle school. So first watching this episode while I was staying at my Granfather's house is a really fond memory of mine, also it introduced me to Metal Gear Rising music. It is CRIMINAL that it took me that long to truly know about the game and its goated music, then again it's not like I suddenly discovered the game out of memes from the past year. The climax and death are also absolute peak and something that still cannot be topped today. Will they? Never say never my friends. anyways yeah that was the list, with the ratio of good and bad episodes into an average score I found that Season 3 had the lowest score out of all the seasons. But with that being said, would you rather have a water and oil situation of really excellent content and really dogshit content, or a season that's nothing more than a big pile of meh with the occasional great episode.

Shadow vs Mewtwo is probably the biggest disappointment of Death Battle for me. I always love it when they bring on pokemon characters and Mewtwo vs Shadow is probably one of my favorite matchups from both series. And the fact that it was a victim of so many bad circumstances is really a shame since if that episode was made nowadays, there’s so much they could’ve done with Mewtwo’s different moves and Shadow’s chaos powers. Also Zoro vs Ezra is one of my favorite episodes because it’s one of three One Piece episodes in the entire series and the best out of the three k thx bye

The upsetting thing to me in Mewtwo vs Shadow is that they use Sonic Boom for the mind wipe argument when Shadow has in fact resisted mental attacks from Black Doom in the game Shadow The Hedgehog, thorough research for that I might add.

Dumb Little Fact for #14, yes, Shadow's game was bad, hence why they call it the worst game ever. 14. Shadow vs Mewtwo is one of the worst episodes of all time! The analysis is alright, but everything after is just a 0/10! The animation is visually nice, but even then, the backgrounds are just greenscreens at points so I guess even that cancels out. In terms of what happens it is just the worst Death Battle fight ever. Just from watching it alone I can definitely tell the animator made it bad on purpose because there's no way in hell than anyone could watch this fight and think its good. The entire thing is an absolute slog and is one of the slowest DB animation ever. It's mostly just the two standing around and talking with Shadow's horrible voice acting, and Mewtwo will occasionally hit Shadow as he absolutely dominates him almost the whole fight. The animation just feels like it was not only made bad on purpose, but it also treats Shadow like garbage just because they wanted to make fun of him. Not only do he and even Mewtwo hardly do anything all fight, but they told his voice actor to intentionally voice him bad on purpose and they incorrectly made him die in the most humiliating way possible. He acts like a dumbass when he gets his memory wiped and then gets killed by a spoon... I get that the death has a neat reference to Shadow vs Vegeta, but it doesn't even matter when the verdict is bullshit! Not only does Shadow realistically stomp, but their reasoning is absolute garbage and doesn't make any sense. Overall this is the worst episode of the show post season 1 and even the good things about it are just okay at best. 1/10! 13. Cammy vs Sonya isn't quite as bad as I remember it being, but its still really boring. The analysis is painfully average and the fight is really lackluster. Visually its definitely the worst fight of the season and the actual fighting is pretty poor as well. Its mostly just really slow and stiff with almost nothing that really stands out. Overall this episode is the definition of boring. 3/10 12. Bowser vs Ganondorf is so fucking boring holy shit! As for the analysis, Bowser's was pretty good and Ganondorf's was fine if a bit boring, but the fight is just awful. Visually it's pretty good, but the choreography felt like it had no effort put into it and considering it was animated by the same person who did Mewtwo vs Shadow that's not a surprise at all. The action is so slow and none of it is very cool at all, even the tennis scene was just sort of white noise for me. Tiny Ganon at the end was really stupid and even though the death was neat, it wasn't enough to save how bad this fight was. Most of it was just them standing around and then occasionally hitting or throwing something at each other. The conclusion however is absolutely rancid. Not only do they pull a reverse golden tree with the no-limits-fallacy of Ganondorf only being vulnerable to holy weapons, but they also pull a straight up golden tree with Bowser having solar system level durability, only to back pedal and say he's weak enough to get killed by lava. I don't think this is the worst episode in the show, but I can definitely see why it has one of the worst reputations of any episode. 3/10 11. Amy vs Ramona is yet another boring episode, but it's not awful. The analysis is okay, but the fight is not very good at all. The start is pretty decent but nothing too crazy. The animation is decently fast paced and pretty alright. Then they go into the bag dimension and it just becomes a confusing mess. Especially the slow as hell ending where Ramona just stands around like she's stoned out of her mind and we get the janky tornado scene. Overall this episode is a lot worse than I remember and I don't have a ton to say about it honestly. 4/10 10. Deadpool vs Pinkie Pie is the worst finale in the show's history and that's a fact. It's not Thanos vs Darkseid, JC if you're reading this its not Hulk vs Broly, no Pokemon fanboys it's not Pokemon vs Digimon, fuck, I bet even Vegito vs Gogeta is gonna be better than this! Deadpool's analysis wasn't funny at all and doesn't stack up nearly as well as his analysis in Deadpool vs Deathstroke. Pinkie Pie's analysis is a bit better but still harmed by how annoying Pinkie Pie is as a character. Then the fight starts and its actually pretty fun, until they start breaking the fourth wall and it all goes to shit. Not only are they not even fighting anymore, but them traveling to others episodes isn't used well at all. Then we get the cherry on top of this bad episode, the cop-out ending. This ending is terrible and especially for a season finale, it's pretty fucking lame that we didn't even get an actual winner. I know its a victim of circumstance and Power Rangers vs Voltron or Nathan vs Lara were meant to be the finale, but at the same time, Hulk vs Doomsday was right there. That could've been the greatest finale in the whole show right next to Saitama vs Popeye. 4/10 9. Tracer vs Scout isn't THAT bad, but it definitely aged the worst out of everything else in this season for me. The analysis was pretty standard overall and even then it still had some stupid stuff like the whole segment about Bonk. Bonk makes it so Scout can dodge all attacks, but since they didn't even bother to research TF2 they came to the conclusion that it makes him invincible... Now as for the fight, this is hands down the worst 3D fight in this season, and maybe even Torrian's worst aside from Godzilla vs Gamera (I have spoken). The choreography is not very interesting and Scout is really poorly portrayed. For basically the whole fight he's either walking slowly in a straight line or just standing still and firing. He hardly even fights like Scout and combined with how bad their research was on his end and how he was getting dominated in the fight, this episode felt like massive disrespect against Scout and as a huge fan of TF2, it's really sad to see. At least it wasn't as bad as Michelangelo. I remember giving this episode an 8 previously, but I have no clue what I was thinking, because this right here is a flat 5/10. 8. Flash vs Quicksilver is a very OKAY episode. I used to really dislike it but now I just find it pretty average. The analysis was actually pretty good all throughout and although the fight still has way more going on than Bowser vs Ganon, it's still really boring for the most part. Visually the fight was pretty lackluster, even for season 3, and it was also barely even a fight and mostly just them racing. I get that it conveyed the speed better than the other Flash episode, but I couldn't care less when this episode's action is so bad in comparison. Most of it is just basic punches and kicks with no interesting powers or even any good combos. Luckily, the fight picks up a lot in the ending. The speed force scene is great and the use of The Flash theme makes me miss when DB still used non-original tracks. The death itself though was really bad and is completely carried by the backstory for it in Reverse Flash's episode. Overall this episode is very mediocre and completely pails in comparison to Wally vs Archie Sonic and especially Eobard vs Goku Black. 5.5/10

7. Ken vs Terry is the first good episode on the list and the 2nd best sprite fight this season, that's pretty sad. The animation isn't anything super crazy, but it's still enjoyable. The combat is really good, but towards the end it starts to slow down and gets a bit boring. I'm rewatching these right before I gotta go, so I'm just gonna keep this short and give it a 6.5/10. 6. Zoro vs Erza is really good and the fact that it took all the way to number 6 to get some actually great episodes is quite sad. What isn't sad though is the animation. It's actually really good and has some great action. The death as well was super fucking epic and definitely one of the best of the season. Finally, a good fucking sprite episode! 8/10 5. The Joker vs Needles is a criminally underrated episode. The analysis was really solid for both characters and it uses Danny Elfman Batman music which is a major W. The fight wasn't much of a fight, but it was very unique and I loved what they did with it. The car chase action was still a ton of fun and I enjoyed it way more than Black Widow vs Widowmaker or even the car chase in Red vs Blue. The Joker is one of my favorite characters in all of fiction, and seeing him written fantastically with one of my favorite performances in all of Death Battle was a treat. Similar to episodes like Omniman vs Homelander, this episode focused a lot more on the characters than it did on the action and I'm glad that they chose to go that direction since The Joker gets some great moments and interactions with Needles. The ending of the fight though is an absolute masterpiece. Joker continues stealing the show in this animation and we get one of the most cinematic and chilling deaths in the whole show. I know most people think this is just decent, but my love for The Joker and that ending were enough to get this episode a 9/10. 4. Ratchet & Clank vs Jak & Daxter is another one of the most underrated episodes in the series. The analysis is great and the fight is one of Torrian's many bangers this season, as he was completely carrying it almost the whole time. The action is really fast paced and both teams get to use a ton of weapons. The music choices in this fight were also really great and even though I was pretty tired when I rewatched this episode, I'm still confident that it's an easy 9/10. 3. Meta vs Carolina is one of the most unique episodes of the whole show and even as someone who isn't a Red vs Blue fan, I still thought it was amazing. I really liked Red vs Blue cutaways in this episode and the analysis as a whole was great. The fight is also an absolute banger. The choreography and sound design are absolutely on point and it was a great fight overall. This episode also has the honor of having the best Boomstick's dad joke by far. 9.5/10 2. Dante vs Bayonetta is to this day, the absolute greatest premiere that Death Battle has ever done, and probably ever will do. The analysis is quite good, but what really makes this episode stand out is the fight. Torrian went absolutely hard on this animation and its something that hardly anything nowadays can come close to topping. The fight is one of the longest in the show's history and it never gets boring unlike Eggman vs Wily and especially Godzilla vs Gamera when it comes to longer fights. The animation all throughout is super high octane and gets to include a ton of powers. Both of their partners coming in during the middle of the fight was a great moment too and its something that pretty much never gets to happen in other episodes, and the death was great too. Overall this episode is one of Torrian's absolute best and as much as I love Yoda vs Mickey, it just can't compete with this episode's absolutely insane choreography. 10/10! 1. Hulk vs Doomsday is my Snake vs Sam. The analysis is great and all, but the fight just feels perfect. The sound design in this episode blows Broly vs Hulk out of the water and despite the destruction only being city level, it has so much more impact thanks to the sound and insane amount of rubble every time they destroy something. The action itself is absolutely godlike. There's so many amazing moments like Doomsday drop kicking Hulk through a bus, Hulk using cars as boxing gloves against Doomsday, and the thunderclap followed by Doomsday interrupting it and shattering the whole building they're in. Up to this point the fight was fantastic, but then Hulk turns Worldbreaker and it somehow goes even harder and gives us a climax that makes Snake vs Sam blush. The music choices all throughout this episode are flawless, and the music in Worldbreaker Hulk vs Doomsday was especially perfect and made it quite possibly the greatest scene in any Death Battle episode ever. The action is ironically way faster paced than anything in Flash vs Quicksilver and then even after the most high octane punch-out in the show's history, we get the greatest death in the whole show only rivaled by Eobard massacring Goku Black. On top of all of this, Hulk vs Doomsday was also the first Death Battle episode I ever saw and its what got me into the show, and goddamn talk about good first impressions! This episode means the world to me and for over 5 years it remained as my favorite episode in the show. Even when I put another episode above it like Wolverine vs Raiden or Bucky vs Jason, this episode also ended up on top. 11/10!!!

I definitely agree with the thoughts on Black Shadow vs Bowser, I wish Zelda would get better coverage on DB but it's all either been bad or irritating to the point I can't enjoy it in any meaningful way (to me anyways), but I have to say that Zelda vs peach is easily the worst of them, Black Shadow vs bowser has funny moments and a good track while Zelda vs peach just doesn't do Zelda's actual character any justice and doesn't have anything that appeals to me at all, I'm really hoping that if she comes back that she can get a win and some actual good showing of who she actually is and what she does instead of just being called useless despite every 3D game showing otherwise in 1 way or another. Edit: Fun fact that probably nobody cares about, in the first part of the animation of Dante vs Bayonetta you can see the throne that Raidriar sits on in Infinity Blade 1, which is something that makes me very happy as a reference (I can hope that we could actually get an Infinity Blade MU at some point like Dust from Dust an Elysian Tail vs Siris, but that's such a pipedream).

I'm glad you didn't put Bayonetta vs Dante at number 1. That Death Battle was incorrect when it came out, and has aged even worse since then. A guy who needs help to cut down a tree that's gonna terraform Earth vs a witch who canonically fights legit multiverse gods or devourers? And somehow the former wins? It's just Master Chief vs Doomguy or Tifa vs Yang, again. Not even the Witch Time vs Quick Silver was right, since Bayo can just activate the former multiple times the former and stack it, but Dante cannot do that with the latter. So I get why the analysis brings it down, especially after Sephiroth trashed on the Spardas, as they deserved it.

My Personal Best & Worst Of The Season WORST: Shadow Vs Mewtwo. Disrespectful, shallow, spiteful, half-assed, lazy, inaccurate, egregiously bias, and has one of the shittiest endings in the whole series. As a huge fan of Shadow this was one that seriously pissed me off. Fuck this shit excuse of an episode, easily among the Top 5 Worst of the entire series. And Shadow The Hedgehog is NOT the worst videogame of all time. BEST: Hulk Vs. Doomsday. While I do still wish Hulk got to win in the end and I personally love his fight against Broly just a tad bit more, this fight is still outstanding! Epic, brutal, gory, well-explained, very well animated, and THE best death in the series which I won't even attempt to argue against! Easily a Top 10 Best overall contender! Honorable Mention: Meta Vs Carolina. For being both incredibly unique and laugh out loud hilarious, and bc of how much I love Red Vs Blue.

People who think Bowser stomps Ganon do t really understand Zelda scaling. I mean neither does death battle given they exclusively focus on OoT to lowball these characters to planet level. But both characters should be in similar levels of power and Ganon should be faster. Honestly based on standard abilities alone then Ganon would win but if you include non standard stuff so bowser can have his more powerful stuff then yes Ganon stomps. He gets the complete triforce which is consistently stated to be the omnipotent/supreme power of the Zelda verse. Bowser can’t beat someone who is essentially capital G God. This doesn’t change the fact that the explanation of the episode is bad but I’m just saying that there are definitely arguments for Ganon winning

Also I’m surprised you didn’t take about the conclusion more for Erza vs Zoro. It has so much wrong. They had both slower than light despite both effortlessly fighting light speed characters by the episode that came out and they also used Zoro being a master swordsman as an argument and try to pretend that Erza isn’t also a master. Honestly if they waited literally a few months then Erza would have gotten a feat that Zoro still hasn’t fully matched to this date unless you use the films in which they are about equal. So yeah I have a lot of problems with the conclusion in that fight

As long as they remain internally consistent I could not care less if what they say matches up with the community consensus on what is "objectively accurate" especially when this is still relatively early in the show and the characters are not ones I have researched myself.
