Soph was made by a team that I'm participating in the next project, a small Brazilian group with no resources, but they do it simply because they love this style. While the new project is on hold, we artists are focusing on our own projects, and one of them, mine, is also a Shmup, as it is my first step in this genre, and despite being alone, I'm doing my best to have as good a quality as Soph. I hope that in a few years, the name Ravian will be known and accepted by the Shmup community 😁 I'm pretty excited to start showing things off, but unfortunately there's no gameplay yet, just art.

Good review Jordan! I think your shmup reviews are important given your style, reach and general audience. We need to spread the love for shmups, not the other way around! :D Your passion and casual approach to the genre is perfectly valid and you're honest about it! Man, you should definitely review shmups! There are plenty of channels and sites for the more hardcore - even if you say you're not good at them, neither are loads of people, so it's good to have places out there giving recommendations (or not) from that view point. Totally agree with this review, by the way. Sophstar is an awesome game, and you'd better believe I've got the physical on its way too!

Of course I'm not Jordan, but I would suggest this very game he just showed. Sophstar is SUPER friendly to newcomers with a high enough ceiling that pros will find themselves having a good time.

@@numberpi5473 Thanks m8. I appreciate the recommendation. I plan on getting a Schmuup or 2 for my switch. I like a varied genre of games but have little knowledge of set genre.

This one looks good, Jamestown + was a definite surprise for me, another meaty release also on the eshop, lots to unlock good difficulty scaling, ships, weapons and multiplayer, psyvariar delta is also relatively easy to pick up, if you're not opposed to importing games or using something like play asia, caladrius blaze is good, if you go the play asia route there are some cheaper ones like dimension drive, shikhondo, ghost blade HD and pawarumi. All so far to my knowledge have good difficulties for all levels. I'd say the easiest one to start with would probably be Sophstar or Jamestown + followed by Psyvariar then Caladrius Blaze. I haven't dove too deep into the rest I listed as I have picked them up but haven't really dove into them yet.
