I live in Alaska, where the chickens are often outside during the winter in sub-zero weather. They survive and thrive. Those of you who naysay and find fault with Adler Farms videos obviously have no first hand experience with farming or raising livestock, especially in a location where the winters are quite cold.

I am in CT. It’s pretty cold right now. But my family garnered in VT by the Canadian boarder. It was SO cold. They kept guard dogs and barn cats. They were very well cared for animals because they worked hard for us. They kept coyotes, wolfs , fisher cats, bobcats , mountain lions away from the farm animals. Your dog is fine.

I live in Northern MN; it gets COLD here. My dogs don’t live outside as they are house dogs. But -28* F is nothing for them. My little 20 pound dogs go outside for 20 minutes at a crack. Smokey is just fine! We have Great Pyrenees pure breads and mixes that have the same thick coat, the colder it is the more coat they grow. My guardian is retired as I no longer have goats or sheep, and she goes BATTY if we don’t keep her busy. But she is 8 now and has settled so does okay inside with frozen treats
@lisawatkins25903 жыл бұрын
You are preaching to the choir here regarding your dog liking the cold weather! My great Pyrenees has a 10'x10' kennel with an igloo in it, where he sleeps at night. When the cold arrives I put straw out for him. I put some in his dog house a this year I just left the rest of the bale for him to distribute. First thing he did was to remove the straw from the dog house and then he scatters the rest of the bale all over his kennel! 🤣 he's pretty much done this since he was a puppy! It's entertaining to watch.

Instead of an ax to break up the ice you might consider just a "t-post" you can lay down close to the Highlands water bowl. If you have gloves on it's pretty easy to break up ice with that metal. That's what we did anyways. Love the critters.

I owned a Shiloh German Shepherd, he had a thick under coat , absolutely hated being brought in the house . He would sleep in snow banks , even though he had a insulated dog house. And it would get deadly cold here in Nova Scotia Canada . But nowadays it is not allowed to leave your dogs outside. People report you to the Animal Control . Heck birds , squirrel, deer and so on live outside all winter.

I'm retired now, but in my working days I drove a school bus (30 yrs). In the middle of winter it happened every year we had days that there would be a wind chill temp of -50° below zero. Fortunately now they run diesel engines and they plug in so they start. LOL I drove long enough ago that I remember the gasoline engines and their fuel would freeze in the lines but of course it never stalled until you got out somewhere. Talk about miserable cold with kids on the bus. Was an interesting career. It's suited me just fine I loved it! Oh I should say that I live in mid Michigan. The middle of the mitten. I hear in the upper peninsula it got even colder. Glad I was in mid Michigan LOL.

Temres 282 rubber gloves. Used in Dutch Harbor Alaska by fishermen and longshoremen…And by me in southeast Alaska. Fuzzy lined, outside has a rough texture that I use as a scrub brush while washing out feed dishes with snow or ice water. My husband is a retired longshoreman and he still uses these fishing crabbing shrimping and taking care of the farm animals. Expensive gloves but my two pair have lasted all year. I have leather gloves if working in warm dry conditions but those conditions aren’t often…maybe clearing brush in summer

yep my malamute/wolf hybrid hated being inside in the winter, he loved it in the summer due to the air conditioning though when temps hit 90+ deg. Newfoundland's are another breed that prefer outside. Honestly just ignore them Chad, they don't know nothing or they are too busy listening to people like PETA and HSUS who know even less about animal/livestock care.

Hey y'all, Last week on Monday Dec 27th we went below 32 F. We have been below 32F ever since going on 9 days now today we did get to 30F. We were below 0F for almost 48 hours. -18 was the coldest. I saw bunnies running all through the yard a couple of squirrels also that was -12F. I thought I should bring them blankets and ponchos with some tarps but if I did they would run away and I would never catch them and they would still be sitting in the snow laughing at me. Then the neighbor's cat came strolling by I do not think she knew it was cold. Seriously now I would suggest y'all go to goodwill buy all the gloves hats and coats they have and donate them to the homeless shelters. That will be the best spent money you will spend this winter. God bless y'all take care bye for now.....

Hi Chad, Yes I think a windbreak would be wonderful for them just something to keep the wind off in case the wind starts blowing real bad because that's what makes you cold is the wind. They're doing wonderful they're so pretty and I noticed they're getting to where you can touch them a little better now. Just keep trying and one of these days you'll have them in your lap.

Chad, several of us are more than willing to back you up. The fact that some people need to hear it over and over is just crazy. Vermont here...some sub zero temps. I use to have 4 Great Pryenese. Even the two 11 year olds rather stay outside. They had a 16 by 16 barn they shared with their goats, but 98% of the time, they would be found outside on the hill. You know what your doing. Just shake your head and keep doing what you do. Love the hairy coos.
