Is this the real life? Is this just improbability? The musical episode of STRANGE NEW WORLDS was improbable, unstoppable, sensational, ovational and BOLDY EXPLORATIONAL! Here's my REACTION to SUBSPACE RHAPSODY.

I'm a 45-year-old man who grew up with TOS--and I loved this episode. LOVED it. One of Star Trek's great strengths is that it can be a legal drama one week, a comedy the week after that, then a taut political thriller. So why not a musical? Heck, the second Star Trek episode ever aired had an Uhura-Spock musical number in it! The fact that they've never done a musical episode before is a great reason do finally do one, and this was the perfect cast for it. I love this show so much. I wish we got longer seasons!

Yes, yes and YES! I read an interview the other day with someone behind SNW, I don't think it was one of the showrunners, but he said he wants to do 20 episode seasons.

@@donald4312 The days of 20 episode seasons are over with more shorter shows being considered basically because they have shorter budgets longer run show will cost more in the end which is why now a days the max you see a show run is for 3-5 seasons of 10 episde each also to avoid syndication

Michael told Spock some mean things one time, things he knew weren't true and that she was only saying them to protect him. He didn't speak with her for over almost two decades. Sarek disagreed with Spock about joining Starfleet academy, they didn't speak for almost two decades. Chapel informs Spock (through song) she is breaking up with him in front of half the crew and that she doesn't feel bad at all about how she chose to do it. Spock walks out silently. In TOS, Spock is cold towards her at best, hostile towards her at worst, and we never knew why. Guess we do now. When someone hurts Spock, he shuts them out completely. It takes a big gesture from that person to get him to open back up to them even a little bit. And I would like to point out, the first two were family.

44:22 This episode is _completely_ like *Once More, With Feeling* (that's the famous Buffy musical episode). You have people forced into following the rules of musical _while_ they're singing, but very confused and concerned while not. Plus, there's the thing with bunnies (M'Benga and Anya would agree - being bunnies wouldn't be great) and alternate dimensions. The only thing missing is a snippet of some random background character's song. They had the opportunity to have someone sing about how the Enterprise's laundry system managed to get the mustard out of their red shirt, and they didn't take it. Pity.

I think I just had an epiphamy as to why Spock & Bones didn't get along so well! The doctor's human emotional reactions to things reminded Spok of the emotional doctor who abandoned him for her career because her emotions of acceptance overshadowed the emotional romantic loyalty that Spok thought she aught to have shown him instead. Since BONES is in the same field as the woman who hurt him and whenever he shows heightened emotional responses or makes speculations and recommendations based on emotional means "hunches" for example, it is a knife twisting reminder of Nurse Chappell and all the hurt she caused Spok.

@@chattery He does know the name in the original series, he just doesn't connect the Khan that he is seeing in front of him to that Khan. And when he asks for his full name multiple times Khan keeps creating excuses not to say it. When they do make the connection Kirk immediately goes "Oh, no. Not that Khan!" It would be as if today you met a guy that says he is from 1940s Germany and he is named Adolf. Adolf was a common name in 1940s Germany (and in Europe in general), so if you don't really remember how Hitler looked like from your history classes when you were 12 you wouldn't make the connection immediately. I believe there's hope, post Carol, for Kirk and La'An. If all Kirk wanted was a short term thing then he would not have mentioned Carol. My theory is that the reason Kirk spends so much time hooking up in TOS is a reaction to being told, by Carol, to take a hike. If they continue having Kirk in SNW, a relationship with La'An would be an acceptable, what with the social changes in the last 60 years, alternative to Kirk being Capt. Zoom Pants.

As small mention, the Klingon general here during the lead singing, will eventually become Klingon Chancellor during the destruction of the Praxis, the mining moon. "The Undiscovered Country".

It would’ve been anticlimactic if Q had appeared at the end of the episode insinuating that it was responsible for the anomaly I thought the musical was so strange that I was low key expecting it to happen lol Edit: I loved the episode though

This was the third episode of Star Trek I ever saw because a friend forced me to (The others were Pilot and the Lower Decks crossover.) And I hate musical episodes. Aaaaaanways I fell in love with SNW and I was laughing my ass off when Pike tried to get out if the conversation and ended up doubling down XD The songs run in my head for what ... 3 weeks now?

@@chatteryShe didn't. This anomaly makes people express their deepest feelings without their will. Christine would never, in mormal circumstances, broken up with Spock publicly. But she has a life, both she and Spick know it can not last. Every guy assumes it is only Spick suffering with that knowledge. Chappel is too, VERY deeply. She CAN NOT have Spock. He CANNOT have her. She was not reponsible for informing him in the way the anomaly made her.
