Oh look, my favourite Zepp track from my favourite Zepp album. 😁
@paulbewlay45273 жыл бұрын
The thing about this song in particular is that for a good portion, if not all, of the song the bass and guitar are providing a rhythm section for the drummer (and vocalist) to 'riff over'. It's usually the drummer and the bass (or keys) doing rhythm, but we all know Led Zeppelin liked doing things different. And it's notable that Jimmy Page didn't mind having a backing role at time; it was really all about the music. Enjoy!

Bonzo played a huge role in this song's creation. He used to sing/hum little drinking songs that he made up, and this was one of them. He sang something to the effect of "I'm going out on the tiles/I've had a pint of bitter and now I'm feeling better, going out on the tiles" to the same melody as the guitar riff. Don't hold me to that verbatim, but I know it's pretty close. Page simply adapted the melody, and Plant came up with his vocals...and the rest is history, as they say. How 'bout the DRUMS on this? Woo!!

I love that! Whether it’s true or not , That’s a great story. Thank you for that

Led Zeppelin only released 8 albums while Bonzo was alive and 1 after ('Coda'). I became a fan in 1973 when I was 14 when my brother got my dad to buy 'Houses of the Holy' for him. Then I bought LZ IV and began working my way backward through their discography. When I bought LZ III, I was surprised by how different the music was from the other two. The album cover especially was odd because it had a paper wheel under the front that had holes in it so the symbols and pics would change. Anyway, "Out on the Tiles" is a perfect closer and as a precursor to the opening of "Black Dog" on LZ IV. Led Zeppelin was one of the most perfect rock bands of the 60s and 70s. To me, the first 7 albums were great! No real fillers on any of them other than perhaps "Hats Off (To Roy Harper)" on III.

not even filler. just a “bonus track” basically lol

Bonham's song alright. That dude could Swing. How many of those drum fills have been lifted over the years. No surprise that he's the most influential drummer of them all.

I was told that "out on the tiles" is British slang for a night of drunken debauchery. As in, "we really went out on the tiles last night". During the 77 tour (their last in the US) they would hit an instrumental of this for the beginning of Moby Dick.
