I have a Merlin that's been hanging on my wall for some time. When I get home I'm going to dust it off. Thanks for the inspiration. For the price, I think everyone should own one. Portable and so much fun to play.

Thank you, and I love what you said at 3:48...about going to simply get some strings, and buying yet another instrument to add to the growing collection...ha, ha, I have done that SO many times! (Even when I didn't have the $$ to do it..😂)

This is a really great video, and wonderful overview of what makes the dulcimer - and especially the dulcimer guitar - such a great tool! I call them the "ultimate noodle machine"...loads of fun and a great way to discover new possibilities! If you haven't checked him out yet, be sure to look up Dirt Miller. He's an amazing singer/songwriter who also incorporates dulcimers into his music. Nice stuff!

I have so many half finished songs that I feel like it would make more sense for me to do like a 10 to 15 15 minute medley instead of trying to do a 12-track album or something.

I've been considering getting one so my wife (who isn't exactly guitar savvy) can jam with me. We love writing songs together but she doesn't know any instruments. Mountain dulcimers, and therefore this, are EASY to just play a good melody on. Also they're only about $100 which is a bargain.

I tried to use a phone app to tune my Merlin to EBe and the bass string snapped. Even my snark couldn't find E correctly, how did you manage to tune yours?
@AdamSliger9 ай бұрын
Are you usually in DAd? I just tune it up like normal, my strings are fairly broken in, maybe super fresh strings have too much tension to go up to E?
@KeithFeickert9 ай бұрын
@@AdamSliger you are correct, I am very new to this. I used the Fender tuning app and it was for guitar and not merlin and only complicated the issue. I have since found another tuner app that goes by notes and not the "autotuning" that made me have a bad day lol
