I actually love playing with plug ins for inspiration and for exploration reasons. There are a few foxholes you can fall down with that approach. Personally, it's my favorite part of generating an idea. Just flipping through everything. Turning things on and off. Mapping, automation... it gets the bug going lol Thank you for this video!

Thanks for a great video! I write music for tv and do mixing, I was doing it for years before I really started doing it more professionally, and I've been writing music since I was a teenager. I always say, you gotta be a sicko, lol. You just gotta do it.

So you didn't really answer the question though. Like, what inside that microphone are we paying for that costs 3500 to make? Is it a special metal? The way it's wired? Black magic?

Developing the first loop / part with all the instruments and fully tricked out before coming up with other parts can be a trap. I do my best to get one instrument all the way through first. I finish way more songs like that.

Wow that works thank you so much. I took my other laptop and placed it on movies or just any crap with dramatization. using my Bluetooth ear buds. then i went to my other laptop and started my music production producing beats and songs. In the past years I havent gotten anything accomplished. However I can make up a song on the spot about anything or the current situation. Plus I can sing in 5 octaves well. No training but I can. Problem ive never gotten anything accomplished with these talents. I kept starting then doing this then doing that but none of it was related to my talents. I mean I can just hear music that has feeling and come up with the lyrics without even thinking. Yet everything turns to shit because i cant finish anything. But when I tried what you said I had lazer focus. I have the monitor headphones over the ear buds with the ear buds turned down. While I make a beat or practice a part to play. AND WHAT YOU SUGGESTED WORKED! OH SHIT!!!! Something told me to listen to everything you were teaching and sharing. And I DID! So thankful to you thank youvery very much! SUBSCRIBED FOR LIFE!!!!!

I think what ADHD has done for me that makes me better at producing is how it interplays with my taste in music. Every time I discover a new genre of music I haven't heard before, I become obsessive with it for a month or longer, same is true for bands or artists that sound unique from everything I've heard before - in their case I will listen to their entire discography on repeat for several months straight studying and memorizing their sounds and styles. All this while also easily getting bored of entire genres or artists within a few days to a month. The result of this is that I am very well familiar with over 4000 different artists according to my spotify and, I've even had my spotify tell me that some of my playlists are maxed out and that no new music can be added to them. All of this musical input enables me to come up with ideas and combinations that are unique as well as enables me to comfortably produce music of nearly just as many genres as I listen to. Or at least... I tend to think it does anyway.

Deadlines only work for me if the other person cares. If the other person doesn't truly care, the "accountability" is fiction and fails because there's no fear of failure. Headphones are definitely a thing. At work I trigger hyperfocus by listening to music. I pick an album for the day and put it on repeat. It keeps my "bored brain" busy while I get on with stuff.

I gain nothing by sharing this: Alpha GPC. NMN. Genius Consciousness (for the Lion’s Mane and caffeine). That cocktail has changed my entire mental life for three years now and it was noticed by the people around me who asked what I had been doing to increase my focus. They noticed the difference. I’m telling you.

This is a great video man, the consistency is probably the worst for me. I’ll work on a song for 8 hours straight or until I get it to a point that I can listen to on repeat for awhile and then play Terraria for 2 months. I love to do both but my brain hates Balance lmao

Yeah i can only focus with tv and or music playing because otherwise my head will be doing too much side projects in the background. Mixing with the tv in the back can be tricky at times depending on the program shown though.

The puzzle analogy is definitely one I use often. Music is hard, not just the harmony, mixing, production, arrangement , but branding, image, story, etc etc. I enjoy the lot because I'm a geek and I make everything a puzzle to be solved. that includes reach, if your not getting the numbers then that's another puzzle to solve. (thats where branding comes in)

I’ve never made music professionally, only personally. I like to write and produce my own songs but never felt like I need to put it out there because I have a steady full time job, and I only do music as a hobby. I’ve always felt like I’m missing out though, like if I spent my time with music I could do something with it. On the other hand I love my job currently, make good money, and couldn’t easily get it back. Anyone else sit in that crater?
@AdamSliger5 күн бұрын
That’s a tricky one. I don’t have much experience in that scenario but I think a good idea would be to try the weekend warrior thing for a bit and see how far you get. About half of my sessions are nights and weekends since a lot of artists are in your boat, so you could do a little double dipping and see where it goes! Might still cover this in a video but if not that’s what I got for ya 🤘

08:35 I wouldn't say that it would never happen. taking into account binaural beats and isochronic tones. (In your case especially just the tones without a mix played over it, maybe could be help-/usefull)I use the latter very often in everyday life via loudspeakers in order to use my ADHD in an orderly manner and to be able to stay focused. (not a 100% solution, even with it you can completely lose focus and the flow that comes with it) It is, so to speak, the plus version of the lo-fi suggestion, as it not only affects your ambience and thus your mood, but also specifically drives your brain and the brain frequencies to the respective "functional rhythm" selected.. sleep, focus & learning, meditation & relaxation as well as stress and health-related aspects.. If you want to know more about this (not an advertising placement, just a recommendation based on interest) I recommend the channel by Jason Lewis - Mind amend. The description of each mix set also contains everything you need to know in general, as well as details and more in-depth information related to the frequency spectrum used in the mix. ✌🏻☺️

Hey Adam, I use a focusrite scarlett solo 3rd gen, I used to have the itrack solo and I record with the mic that came with that. After much troubleshooting, it came down to the actual vocals recorded that matters. After 6 years of doing production, gear honestly doesn't matter. Infact having too much gear can hold you back and then you get choice fatigue.

Lol, nailed it in 4 minutes when most people will ramble for 20 or so and make it more confusing than it needs to be. Sometimes it really is best to keep things simple, not to say there isn't more to be covered but if someone wants to learn how to use compression this outta get the ball rolling without overwhelming

Really love your style of presenting. Not that you touched on this explicitly, but something that occurred to me when you mentioned how artists aren't going to care about how expensive your gear is was the idea of staying focused on one thing and having a single goal in mind. I think the word "producer" is thrown around so frequently, that it's difficult to understand what it actually means. I mean, everyone is gonna have a different definition, but I think a lot of us "producers" really wanna be considered artists and this plays into the whole "do things to for artists and not other producers" bit you opened up with. I think without the clarity on what your particular flavor of music production entails, you can think that you're doing something for other "artists" who are really "producers" and are likely just as lost as you are with their goals and direction. Maybe this only applies to me, but I had that realization recently after taking a long break from music and coming back. I called myself a producer, but I didn't really have interest in producing other artists. I just liked the technical aspects and the potential of the toolset for creating music that producers are usually associated with, but deep down, I just wanted to be an artist. That said, I don't think these are mutually exclusive. There are plenty of artist-producers out there, but I think ultimately what distinguishes them is their focus on the vision they have on what it means to be a producer or artist. Anyway, I'm rambling lol. I really like your vids and you seem to have lots of great wisdom to share. Thanks! :)

....unless they're Kurt Cobain. The record 'In Utero' on some tracks you can barely hear his vocals. In fact most of the songs the vocals are really 'in the music' rather then being clearly heard. But that's just the philosophy for some guys, i suppose. I mix vocals differently all the time, it's nice hearing them, but sometimes maybe they shouldn't be so loud and present? Depends on the music and the feeling you're trying to achieve. For the record 'Nevermind' is how i wished 'In Utero' sounded. Much better sounding!
