Legends of the Ring was my boxing jam on SNES. Borrowed it from a friend so many times. In my 20s I ended up with Chavez II on cartridge. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it was essentially Legends of the Ring.

super virtual boxing looks like it was the direct inspiration for teleroboxer for virtual boy. the floating hands and first person perspective, as well as the hooks and animations for the punches thrown are almost identical.

Excellent video once again. Super Punch-Out is clearly the best and one of my favorite SNES games. Many Punch-Out fans aren't crazy about it, but I feel that has more to do with the game's style, oddities, lack of Little Mac, lack of Doc Louis, one-round fights, etc. The core gameplay is SNES perfection. I got into an internet fight with someone claiming the guy in Super Punch-out actually was Little Mac. Too bad the other guy never thought to actually bring up Nintendo's conversations on the matter (2-1 queries saying it was Little Mac, somehow) and others kept bringing up arguments that didn't work the same way in the universe of Punch-Out as they did for Castlevania. I mean, their eye colors are different (and I dare someone to spar with contacts in. I mean, not really- they're expensive and you're going to lose your contact with a good whallop like I almost did multiple times) I'm still looking for excellent boxing experiences on PC. The closest I found was emulating Fight Night Round 3 on PSP, emulating Hajime No Ippo on GBA (i have two carts so I can play local multiplayer!), and potentially Online Boxing 3D if I could put in the time to get good at it.

Wow. I thought I was the only one who knew of Chavez. Didn't realize it was only released in Mehico and the Southwest though. Being a white kid growing up in Albuquerque, NM, all of my Hispanic friends had it. Boxing was super popular with them. The only boxers I knew of was George Foreman (you're right, his adverts were EVERYWHERE) and Mike Tyson bc....well, who didn't know Iron Mike?

I would have to echo the "KZbin Speedrun" thing. Seriously, do as the guy suggests and just watch a speedrun of Super Punch Out. Most entertaining stuff ever, even if you never plan on playing the game, just watch the speedrun. It will take you only a few minutes (lol), but you will see some of the most insane punching skills ever.

There's a video of a speedrunner playing Super Punch Out BLINDFOLDED and he beats the whole game in 24 minutes and destroys Nick Bruiser in not even 25 seconds! It's the most impressive speedrun I've ever seen! :D

I've been playing video games since 1986, have beaten some crazy hard games, done speed runs, 100%ed old S/NES games... I can not figure out how to play Super Punch Out to save my fucking life. I don't why, maybe I'm missing the correct brain synapse or something, but I just can't do it. Can't even get past the first guy.

Gabby Jay, the old guy? I mean, I stink pretty badly at that game. It took me way longer than I care to admit to figure out the second level, Bear Hugger, but I didn't even know it was possible to lose to Gabby Jay. You just intermittently catch him by surprise and you'll simply outlast him. He almost never defends.
