Mario I find is actually what I like to call a "half-silent" protagonist. Sure, he may not speak as much in his mainstream games, but in others such as Mario Kart, Sports, or even other games such as the Luigi's Mansion trilogy, he does have a few moments of dialogue in between, and he's definitely more of a speaking protagonist than say Link for example.

Let's not gloss over the fact that Yoshi gives an extra jump to Mario when needed. The Enderman should be in the grey area. It is confirmed in the Minecraft handbook that they are neutral, not hostile like zombies. They'll only bother you if you attack them (which could be argued as self defense) or if you stare into their eyes. Ganondorf shouldn't have the gold medal of evil. He was always destined to be evil. Unlike Ridley and Sephiroth who had the ability to do good but chose not to. Also where is Donkey Kong, I saw him in the box before Diddy Kong after they said Yoshi's ranking. 44:38 The Enderdragon should have the pronoun "she", not "it". This is because she lays an egg upon defeat, meaning she's a female.

I agree with the Luigi and Yoshi statements, Mario actually feels kind of grey and kind of does most of his heroic acts for fame and glory. Luigi deserves half the glory Mario gets but is sweet and laid back to those around him. Same with Yoshi. I do agree 100% with Marth being number 1, the guy is basically Jesus.

You forgot Donkey Kong’s placement, which I would argue goes in the lower end of the Good section, in that he is naturally inclined to protect his home and his fellow Kongs in the DKC games, but also plays an antagonistic role in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series, though most of his motivation for that is simply to get his hands on toys rather than anything truly villainous.

I'd put him above Captain Falcon.Wolf played a huge role in saving the Lylat system from the Aparoids and did save Fox's life. He did take jobs from Andross but I think saving the Lylat system is more heroic than being a bounty hunter/race car driver.

Agreed. The main difference between Wolf and Fox is who hires them and for what purpose, and for all his faults Wolf has a code of honor of his own that includes lines he won't cross for anyone, nor will he readily associate with those who would, as we saw when he kicked Pigma to the curb.

I would argue that Solid Snake has much more agency that he's given credit for. Sure he is a Soldier but that only really applies to Metal Gear 1/2 and Solid, in Metal Gear Solid 2 he's acting as a free agent actively working to deter war and free Raiden from the SSS program. The same can be said about Metal Gear Solid 4. He might not consider himself a hero but he is mainly altruistic when put to the test. Not to mention even in cases like Metal Gear Solid the only reason he was involved with that mission is because he himself chose to come out of Retirement to prevent Nuclear War, something that is in the best interest of everyone and is far less morally ambiguous that most conflicts in War.

With the captions on at 15:04, they read; "Not too far behind, we have the King of Swing, Donkey Kong. Much like the last few entrants, DK is a kind hero to the residents of Kong Island who has to be coerced into action more often than not. The difference here is that coercion takes the form of his banana hoard being stolen, with saving the Island being a happy accident. Because of this, DK's motivations tend to be based more on revenge rather than as a general sense of right and wrong, placing him lower than the previous few. Still, he's saved the day more than a few times, so this Kong's still one heck of a guy." They go by pretty fast before explaining Shulk, I'm guessing it was more of an editing error, especially considering how many fighters there are.

Um, he doesn't go insane in Twilight Princess? The most you get is him probably going through pain of transforming when first entering Twilight Realms, and the vision thing that the Lanaryu light spirit showed him, where he gets slightly tranced by the scenery of it all. Other than the curse object thing Zant puts on him, he isn't really imbued by darkness. The only one you could argue he was, is putting on the Fierce Deity Mask from Majora's Mask, if you agree to the theory about what Majora might have deeper meaning about you being the bad guy if you use the mask. Otherwise most if not all Links are more happy go lucky, with silly and goofy moments. With only being serious when it comes to villains like Ganondorf.

I still believe Kirby deserves the Gold Medal, he is after all, the literal multidimensional incarnation of positive energy and love in his franchise, yeah, for those who don't know, that is canon. Edit: Holy sht 100+ likes in just one day. And yeah yeah, i understand that a lot of times the succ ability doesn't seem very heroic, but im pretty sure that as a baby he seems at the end rather than the means, which means he isn't aware of the things he does, he will pretty much moderate himself when he is mature.

King Dedede is like an alternate universe version of Bowser who Stopped Kidnapping Peach after Mario World or 64 and made a peace treaty with The Mushroom Kingdom. Not just in the RPG games, but in the entire series.

Here’s the big thing about Rosalina: what - in universe - is the star cursor? Basically, if you don’t know, Super Mario Galaxy has a mechanic where aiming a Wiimote at the screen gives you a little cursor to also control to help Mario on his adventure. That - in universe - is most likely Rosalina using her power to help Mario. It’s a blue star cursor and Rosalina even controls it in one of her moves during Smash to protect herself. By that logic, even though she isn’t there physically, she is guiding and assisting Mario to do things he couldn’t do otherwise (such as operate pull stars).

Yeah, I noticed that, too. It seems like they're ranking them on a lot more than just morality. It seems like the good characters are more ranked by heroism than morality, which don't necessarily go hand-in-hand (like you said, Isabelle isn't heroic because she doesn't need to be), while some of the villains are ranked more by their power, which isn't accurate (Bowser being underneath K Rool is a good example, K Rool has zero good qualities at all and Bowser actually does, yet Bowser was put lower simply because he's stronger?)

I think the Koopalings should’ve been separated, since they have wildly different characterization: Good to evil: 1: Larry koopa. He is never portrayed with evil maliciousness and genuinely likes bowser and would risk his life for him although he can come off as sassy or ignorant. He is also a bit short-tempered, as seen when his stature is insulted in M&LPJ. 2:Ludwig von koopa He is a respectful opponent who, while being a bit of a show-off, is secretly humble and respects everyone around him, even Morton. He takes on responsibility and hates it when Larry (his best friend) gets hurt. Also seems to have an artistic hobby and likes composing music in peace (which Mario is implied to disturb). 3: Morton koopa jr He is a kind fella if you get to know him, but he is too destructive and enjoys destruction way too much for him to be any higher. 4:Wendy O. koopa She wants the best for the group, but is extremely quick to anger and lashes out on others. 5:Lemmy and Iggy koopa Since they basically are on the same wavelength, they can be grouped together. Iggy and Lemmy seem to enjoy Marios struggle more than any other koopaling, the two of them are also crazy and have some implied maniacal tendencies. They don’t do anything particularly malicious however. They are not evil by volition, they are just crazy and disregard morality for fun. 6:Roy koopa He commonly mocks everyone around him and doesn’t respect anyone (unless they beat him), which often backfired on him. He however is loyal to his friends and doesn’t want to seriously hurt them. The only koopaling I‘d say is evil, the others are just misguided by bowser.

@@disneyvillainsfan1666 That'd be extremely out of character. First of all why would they want jobs? They have power in their current position and are probably rich. Second of all, they're shown as being extremely loyal to Bowser, like all his other minions, and they are also shown to just love being evil and causing chaos in general. While I mostly agree with kirby's placement (he could be like 3-5 places higher), I completely disagree with the reasoning for said placement. He doesn't need to be talked into helping people, this is proven in multiple games like crystal shards, super star, the recent forgotten land, etc. The reason he sometimes doesn't help immediately is because he doesn't know that something is happening due to him sleeping during it or something. I'm also surprised that you didn't mention his biggest flaw, his impulsive nature. He's always willing to help others and do what he thinks is right, but typically fails to completely understand his situation. Squeak Squad, Super Star, and Return to Dreamland are the best examples. Kirby's adventure is another one, but he was honestly fixing the problem in that game.

I think Rosalina should be in the good section. It's interesting that you singled out Mega Man wanting to kill Wily. I'm pretty sure most of the other characters have killed evil enemies. Including those above him. Like the Fire Emblem characters. This channel also has a habit of including unrelated factors to figure out morality. How does Peach getting kidnapped all the time affect how good or evil she is? That kind of thing always annoys me when I watch these videos. I also dislike implications that blood relations have anything to do with morality. It was only mentioned, but I hate "sins of the father" logic that much. I know they had a lot to work through, but I feel like the ranking is all over the place. Well, yes and no. It's more than just them initially using Rex, so as to reach back to Elysium, to do something to themselves that Rex wouldn't like, due to his good nature. But to help Rex as well, as they believed, from what they last remember, that the place would help Rex and his world from the inevitable countries dying out, and prevent a war from breaking out between countries. Pyra and Mythra are willing and do want to help the world, not due to their mood or excitement, unlike Sonic. But kind of less so when they first met Rex. Due to an accident of them losing control of their powers once, and destroying one country as collateral, to no fault of their own (the other Aegis taunted them, and so much as killed others close to them to force their full power from them, to his own amusement) in the past. And blames themselves for something that wasn't entirely on them, and wants to leave the world, because they think they would put the world in danger again. Where as Sonic, he wasn't too banged up about inadvertently causing the world to break apart, by falling into Eggman's trap one time (Sonic Unleashed). As the video has said, he's sometimes a little too carefree and nonchalant about things like that.

Okay, there are some flaws I noticed on this list. Firstly, you missed out Donkey Kong. Secondly you added Meta Knight, Dark Pit and King Dedede in the good category (though I would argue that Meta Knight deserved to be ranked in the good category, but should have been placed A LOT lower). Even if they are anti-heroes more consistently, they had _at least_ one villainous moment. Their heroic deeds were overestimated. There are also several characters in the grey area who should’ve been placed in the good category, including Rosalina, Ryu, Dr. Mario and arguably Captain Falcon, Olimar, Inklings and Snake. Rosalina is pure good and is possibly one of the most good characters on this list. Lastly, the “bad to evil” list was flawed. Wario and Incineroar are grey zoned/anti-heroes more often than not. Also I would place Mewtwo below Bowser Jr, The Koopalings, Piranha Plant, Enderman, Zombie and Wolf (and possibly in the bottom of the grey area). I would also place Bowser below King K. Rool, Ganondorf below Sephiroth, Dark Samus and Ridley, and Sephiroth below Dark Samus and Ridley. Ganondorf’s feats were overestimated. He has a few redeeming qualities (including honor, tragic backstory and failing the heinous standards to several Legend of Zelda villains). Ridley deserves the gold medal as most evil.

First of all, amazing video just by putting time and thought into the lore of each character. I'd argue for higher on some of the characters. 1. Ness because we do know that he willingly fights through time and space to save others. Doesn't even complain! 2. Luigi saves Mario multiple times and never says anything negative about constantly being left behind. He even had goals of being like his brother Mario. 3. Terry Bogard may have fought for revenge in his first game, but afterwards, we see him helping the people of South Town for years to come. He even tried to save his father's murderer, and when he failed, he took in Geese Howard's son and raised him so he wouldn't walk the same path. Terry even saved Rock Howard's mother's portrait in secret when Rock was exploring his father's mansion during South Town's fires. Terry also forgave Billy Kane, who worked for Geese, and when Billy Kane was full of rage because Terry is the one responsible for Geese's death, Terry basically apologized. He's more of a good character. Ridley and Sephiroth should be lower than Ganondorf. Ganondorf is the embodiment of Demise's hatred for Link and Zelda. It's his destiny. Sephiroth looks for reasons to hurt people because he genuinely feels entitled to his position as some sort of god. He desires not to rule like Ganondorf, but he desires to suck the planet's life force dry, including the people on it, then use the planet as a ship to travel the cosmos and do the same to other planets. Even Ganondorf didn't kill unnecessarily. Sephiroth told Cloud, "Tell me what you cherish most. Give me the pleasure of taking it away." Then, after he died for the THIRD time, he somehow went back in time and they are doing a reboot where we see Sephiroth seems to somehow have memories of the previous timeline. He's willing to rewrite all of time to destroy the planet. He's definitely got the gold medal of evil in my book.

You misunderstood Ryu. He doesn’t open to the satsui no hado like Akuma does. Before SF 3 series, he is always fighting himself to never give in to the hado, only after he experiences it after defeating Sagat in SF1 does he learn about this and actively chooses to never tap into this power. He should be in the good side overall since he’s a kind hearted martial artist who always compliments or gives advice to other fighters and he was the one who defeated M. Bison, the main villain of SF, in SF5.

To be fair, Sora did almost get possessed by Xehanort, and it would have happened too if Lea hadn’t come at the last second to block the beam meant for Sora’s heart. Preluding that, they were actively breaking down Sora’s defenses and dozing him off into a nightmare so that they could have the chance to corrupt him. Even after they came away with his body, he still needed Riku to wake him up from his own darkness. I remember this because I literally had to cool off after finally managing to beat Young Xehanort after countless tries on harder difficulties that I wanted the cutscenes to last longer. However, I do still think despite this, Sora is without a doubt a good character. I just wouldn’t have given him a medal for it even though he’s one of my favorites on the roster.

Bruh, Terry deserves at least a little more credit. He is a hard working blue collar kind of man who regularly helps the people of South Town, he encourages kids to eat their vegetables and exercise and even plays basketball with them, he is genuinely friendly and nice to almost anyone (especially in the later KOF games where he had more lines of dialogue), tries to stop Geese Howard (his mortal enemy and the man who killed his father) from actually dying and when he fails, he adopts Rock (Geese's son) to lead the kid down a better path and not let him grow up without a father figure. The only things going against him are the fact that at first, his motivation was nothing but vengeance and the fact that he was actively trying to kill Geese in the first game.

He saves Paula from a cult. He helps free the Mr. Saturns and helps the Tendas get over their shyness. And he defeats both his own inner evil and the embodiment of evil (to be fair though, Paula kinda does most of the work to defeat Giygas, but only because Ness & co. did so many good deeds that those that they helped prayed for their safe return). Lucas is deservedly higher ranked, though, since he did go through A LOT and came out the other end a genuinely kind boy who fought for his friends and his village.

I'm a little confused on why Zero Suit Samus and Sheik didn't get their own spots. Your reasoning for including doctor mario was because him and mario are separate character slots, so are Sheik and ZSS so wouldn't they be included too? By that logic young link and toon link should also get their own spots right? Toon Link and Young Link are just different versions of Link yeah, but Dr. Mario is just a different version of Mario

He tried to save the man who killed his father at the end of their fight by catching him as he fell out the window, only failing because the man himself decided to fall. He then proceeded to adopt his son and train him, and when his adopted son chose to go on his own path, he agreed and let him. As well as him taking care of his brother and their friend.

Bowser jr is NOT a koopaling, he's Bowser's actual son, thus he is the literal prince of the Koopas and in most occasions Bowser's 2nd in command. He also hates the Mario bros almost, if not just as much as Bowser does, going out of his way to cause trouble for them and only teams up with them if he's desperate, whereas the actual koopalings, while they also dislike Mario, don't really care as much as Bowser/Jr, and mainly do what they do under Bowser's orders

You know, you can’t count Roy being nobility against him when Marth, Chrom, and Lucina are all also royalty. Even by the end of the first half of Awakening, Chrom is a king, which you can’t say for Roy even at the end of Binding Blade (as his father, Eliwood, never dies). Lucina is also shown leading the army of future children in the Future Past DLC from Awakening, Chrom leads the Shepherds, or the player’s army in Awakening (he’s the leader, Robin is the tactician), and Marth leads the army in his games as well. I’ve never played Binding Blade (I don’t have an emulator + I’ve never found a translation and I can’t read Japanese), but even speaking as someone who only has pretty surface-level Fire Emblem knowledge, I think that’s a bit unfair.

Glad King Dedede is considered the good. He has been opposing Kirby for a long time and is quite selfish but he is starting to grow into a nicer character. Hell, in The Forgotten Land, he is pretty much a good guy now thanks to his actions at the end of the game and was being mind controlled for the majority of the game.

Before I finished the entire video, I wanted to see what everybody thought. Going through the comments, I stumbled upon a debate whether or not Yoshi and Kirby should have been #1. And that's when I realized something: Every character on this list... is incredible! Whether they are good or evil, they still inspire us to do things that we might not normally do, or they lift us up when we are feeling sad. Or just help us dream! And the fact that each person has their own opinions on who is the goodest and who is the most evil, really shows just how much love everyone receives. It's really heart-warming to know that every character is beloved in some way. I guess that's kind of the spirit of Smash Bros. too; no matter where you come from or what your past is (just like your character), you are still a fighter. So no matter where the character(s) you support end up on this list: in my heart, they will ALL the best for making you smile! And I hope that all of your characters end up in the #1 spot. I’ve been asking a question: In the Subspace Emissary, all the characters (expect Jigglypuff, Wolf, Toon Link and Sonic) have interacted with each other. But which duet have the most healthy relationship and which duet have the most toxic relationship? Here are the rules: One, they most have interacted in at least two scenes. Two, like most of the characters don’t canonically know each other, only their relationship in the Subspace Emissary will be included. And third, like there are lots of relationships in Brawl’s story mode, we’ll be only include the most major of the plot.

I disagree with the evil list: King K.Rool was literally ready to KILL HIMSELF as long as he'd kill the Kongs, he risked the lifes of his minions and himself just out of spite of DK and his friends, so what if he didn't have the materials needed to plan a galactic conquest like Bowser? You seriously think he WOULDN'T try the same thing if HE had gotten the grand stars? Because *that's what matters*, this is about MORALITY,not power, not who's the greater treat, who's the worst person, and K.Rool is a far worst person than Bowser, Bowser cares for his son and minions and would never risk their and his lifes just to end mario's- he might risk his, but he wouldn't put his minions and family in danger,unlike K.Rool. and before you say "he sends them to fight Mario and co everytime" They're not in risk of dying there, Goombas don't die when they're stomped, ask Captain Goomba, or play Yoshi's island, Bowser's minions don't die when they fight Mario- Bowser WOULDN'T risk their life because he cares about them,simple as that, K.rool doesn't give a shit about anyone and risked both his and his minions lifes just to end DK, K.Rool is worst,end of story. In fact King K Rool is NPE while Bowser is IH and Ganondorf isn't either of them due to the fact that he has several redeeming qualities and fails the heinous standard of his franchise so while Ganondorf is more evil than Bowser and K Rool, Kazuya, Sephiroth, Dark Samus, and Ridley are still much worse than Ganondorf.

Indeed. K. Rool’s evilness also comes close to the likes of Kazuya and Ganondorf (albeit, still not nearly heinous as them). Also I 100% agree. There’s no denying that Ridley is MUCH worse than Ganondorf. Dark Samus and Sephiroth are also threats on a universal scale and have no redeeming qualities either (the latter lost nearly all of them when he went insane), so they are worse than Ganondorf too.

Nice job-this could not have been easy to rank-you guys always do an awesome job! I have an interesting idea for a good to evil list: the Danganronpa characters! I know it would be pretty tricky to rank since the premise is already very messed up and the series is dark-but I think a morality list is still doable-I can imagine where some characters would be more on the good end and I am curious to see who u think would be on the more evil end (aside from Monokuma and Junko-those r no brainers.)
