Here's a thought: I get that in japan anime is just short for animation, so it's not a japanese thing for them, but there's a style associated to anime that I honestly never got in the AEMU. The animation tecniques and style reminds me much more of Hanna Barbera than Speed Racer and Dragon Ball, So I rather call them Cartoons.
