in dawn of war soulstorm game , it's canon that the Orks under Gorgutz 'Eadhunter conquered the planets and moons of Kaurava System. He beat all factions presented there: space marine, imperial guard, sister of battles, the tau, necron, chaos, eldar and dark eldar. Quite a feat!

The thing about the Imperium is that they literally need to keep winning in order to exist unlike most other factions. When the Orcs or Nids lose they can recover their losses in no time. When Necrons or Chaos Losses they usually just respawn. But when the Imperium losses they suffer (usually) permanent damage.

Technically, humans can respawn, however the problem is that it takes significantly longer to respawn a new imperial guard compared to an ork or a Tyranid.

Meanwhile Demons, Necrons and Orcs can literally just respawn after they die. Same Demon/Orc just a different body. These things need very specific circumstances to actually die. Humans don't

@KongGig wrong, you're looking at it as guard units per world, yes growing a human from birth to guard is 18 sometimes 16 yrs but you forgot to include the vastness of the imperium. If one guard unit falls(and that's just saying 1 world raises 1 unit at a time which is not at all correct) then there are over million guard units to replace that lost one as the imperium is over 1 million worlds, but you stupidity is excused as you love orks so we adjust talk about colors or shapes if you like. Gaz would need to win, but he will need crazy plot advantages to do so. The problem with that is handicapping or ambushing Angron isn't very Orky. Gaz is THE Goff. Melee loving toughest and proudest fighters. He's gonna want a straight up mostly fair fight.

@@whichDude Gaz isn't an idiot and he also has an overarching vision for the future which means that he won't throw away his life. Unlike someone like Tuska Daemonkilla, Gazkull isn't one to take on a challenge that is bound to get him killed as long as he can enjoy himself in the process, though at the same time, he probably will try to pull it off in a way that will actually let him butt heads with Angron, for funzies and the sake of experiencing a fight against a daemon primarch. I.e. fight Angron head-on, but as you're getting pushed back, lure him into a trap, like infront of the biggest and nastiest cannon that the Mekboyz could muster (painted purple so Angron doesn't see it coming) and just as he's about to strike you down, the cannon fires, vaporizing him in an instant.

Orks are the type of fella's that realise the enemy has lost enough numbers that they can't put up a good fight and are mistakenly seen as fleeing/retreating, but in truth have decided to come back later when the fight will be bigger and better after reinforcements have come and defenses are rebuilt.

I'd argue that Ghazkull won Armageddon; The system and the world itself have been the subject of a perpetual onslaught that has created splinter Waagh 'for the most ambitious of warlords that can get forces to follow them out of there and forced the Imperium to dedicate vast resources to containing this (including multiple space marine chapters and titan legions), further, the third "battle" of Armageddon has been ongoing for like, 30 years IRL with no end in sight. Like Ghazkull was able to just straight up walk away from the conflict with enough forces to lead a second Waagh against the Tyranids in another quadrant of the galaxy with the notion that if he does all 4 against different threats that will do... something, but given how ork science works the possibility of that should absolutely terrify everyone from the chaos gods to the emperor to the hivemind itself.

Fighting Chaos on their own turf is actually pretty difficult since demons and chaos are much stronger in the warp and on their worlds. So the fact anyone even made it to the Brass Citadel and the realm of Khorne is probably one of the best feats for a non named space marine characters

My favorite battle with Orks is acctually from Fantasy where chaos knew they they couldn't defeat the warboss so they kept him occupied untill pushed rest of his forces. Then chaos champion made "hey look over there" and when the warboss looked around and saw other orks running for their lives he rushed after them... to slaughter them for cowardness 😂

I think this is most clearly reflected in the video game adaptations. The two most genuinely successful game series of the franchise are the Dawn of War and Space Marine games. Aside from the latest entries in the DoW series that turned it into grand-strategy free-for-alls, the installments with a proper main plot all follow the exact same template: Orcs/Tyranids are the initial threat, but there are hints of a bigger ploy, and then it turns out Chaos is the bigger threat. The Orks are usually just a speedbump, and even the Tyranids are more of a persistent distraction that has to be dealt with so that everyone can focus on the "real enemy".

I like to think that Gork and Mork allowed Tuska to be revived forever more cuz they knew Khorne was being respectful. While we don’t see them at all in the warp throughout the lore there is lore that Gork and Mork stopped fighting briefly whoop the chaos gods and it wasn’t even close. They carved out their own immense pocket dimension to be worshiped and been left alone ever since ❤ They haven’t talked to their own kind the orcs because they really haven’t had an orc worthy to lead until Gaz… also makes me wonder if Orcs have “Demons” or if they feed into Khornes power which is why he’s so cool with them

My favorite Ork victory is Da Big Raid, where a squad of Ork Kommandoz infiltrated a Tau space station and then destroyed it. How'd they get in? By stealing a Tau ship and using its security clearance to open the hanger. The Tau were blindsided because they never predicted Orkz being tactical like that.

The way I see the orks, is that they are a localised threat (like minor races), but multiplied a thousand folds. Most of the time, they are just huge local threat that can be dealt with by any competent military response, so you need to take them seriously, but they are not a big threat. However, since from time to time they may invent themselves some leadership and join each other in a huge army, you need to be always careful to stop them from goint there...and since it's often impossible to forsee because of the scale of a galaxy, it's then you need always to be vigilant.

Ork goal is to fight. Every time they fight, they fulfill their goal. As for them losing campaigns. Well, the command system orks have is easily exploitable. The very moment warboss dies, they turn on each other to find out who is da biggest. Draw out the warboss with big battle he won't resist, snipe/arty/bomb him and wabam, you have got a breather to consolidate and beat invasion into oblivion
