The Ork battle in the novel The Infinite And The Divine is the best. My favorite moment was when Trayzen battles his way to the control room of an ork ship. With less than a second, he had to figure out how to stop the ship from launching by analyzing the controls. They consisted of a green button that was labeled "GO" and a red button labeled "STOP". He pressed the red button, then collapsed into a chair, overwhelmed by what just happened. He heard the orks shouting and assumed they were about to attack, then discovered it was cheering. They just watched him kill his way through the ship, including stabbing their warboss to death with the jagged stump of his severed arm. It was the most awesome thing they had ever seen. Trayzen was overwhelmed with the utter stupidity and orkishness of the moment.

In the Book: Siege of Castellax, Orks invaded a World of the Iron Warriors. A troop of Iron Warriors teleported into the fort of the orks to destroy the promethium tanks, so the orks would run out of fuel. Mission accomplished, now how to get away? They decided to steal a Ork Aircraft. One of the Iron Warriors cracked the skull of an Ork Pilot open and ate the brain. Well it was a meager meal..... But he somehow learned how to fly this orkish Aircraft. His Sergeant stood in the cockpit and wondered how in the hell, this could fly, the controls were just a mess of buttons. The Warrior that should pilot it, ripped the chair out and throwed it out. When he pushed the start button nothing happened. He had to smash the button, to start the Aircraft. When his Sergeant ordered to slow down a bit, the Warrior turned his head towards him and asked, "with which brake?". The Aircraft had no brakes.

The Orks sent a boarding team over to one of the Tyranid ships and took it over somehow. I'd like to believe some absolute chad of an ork climbed up the ship's nostril and punched it in the brain until it did what he told it to do.

The problem with a lot of Orks in stories is that most people only focus on the Brutal while forgetting about the Kunnin'. It would make the Brutally Kunnin' god sad, whichever it is. That's why my favourite Ork Warboss will forever be Gorgutz 'Eadhunta, that boy knows his Orky-know-whats, plus his dialogue with dumber Orks is hilarious.

Fun fact; that's practically the only color that DOESN'T have some kind of symbolism in the actual Ork lore. The sneaky color for Orks is Camoflage. And yes, that is a color to Orks, because if it looks like camo, it works. Doesn't matter if it's neon yellow stripes on eye-stabbing magenta polka dots. If the orks believe it's camo, it's sneaky (as of 10th edition at least, but purple being a magic color wasn't in any other previous codex or novel).

my favorite thing Orks imagination power managed to do is essentially make Gazkhulls Grot Makari immortal. According to Makari names are extremely important to The Green Skins because your name is earned. Makari isn't just called Makari, Makari IS Makari. The Boss is the man who knows everything so if he says something is true then it obviously means it's true and especially for Gaz. No Ork would question him so when Makari died without anyone noticing all the Orks kept bothering Gaz about where their Good Luck charm was, Gaz got annoyed and shoved Makari's Banner into a random Grots hand and said "that's Makari!" so it did become Makari as his mind manifested in that Grots body. From that day forward it became common knowledge Makari can't die and will just respawn in a different Grots body.

You forgot to mention the Bad Moons among major orks klans edit : it would have been nice to insist on ork mastery of teleportation technology. Ork tech is often seen as crude and primitive by other races, but when they manage teleport a gargant in the middle of a battlefield, the AdMech are shitting themselves being both confused, horrified, and amazed (see : Brutal Kunning by Mike Brooks)

Not to mention Ork Space Cruisers are perhaps the most deadly warships in the setting with how little it takes orks to produce them. A bunch of primitive orks can just decide to unite one year and become spacefaring and whatever crap they cobble together can dish out some serious serious damage. While Imperial ships are plentiful and generally more dangerous and actually maintenance, some orks routinely win battle after battle after battle. The speed of which a random no name warboss can assemble a space fleet that threatens an entire sector is frankly astonishing. To the imperium it just appears out of nowhere, and they are looking to assassinate any big ork that looks like it will start a Migration of the species.

12:46 the theory I’ve seen is it is as powerful as a reality stone at a Wagh of the beast or Gazkhul level but they’re too dumb to consciously use it or even realize it’s happening so they still think they can also get krumped. You can see this in brutal Kunin where their standard arms are easily able to do some damage to the Gargant sized demon engine. Because guns hurt things, so gun hurts the thing.

I like to think that a lot of the Ork mechanics attributed to WAAAGH! energy are actually far simpler and stupider than that. An Ork mek unknowingly uses his innate genetic knowledge of machines to create some super special truk parts. The truk incorporating these parts is painted red because it was created to go fast. Therefor red ones go faster. They go fast because they're red. They're red because they go fast.

But then a mob of boyz sees a slow-ass trukk painted red. They assume its fast because what kind of zoggin' idiot would paint a slow trukk red? Hey presto, you have an unreasonably fast trukk for as long as the boyz need it to be fast to get proper stuck in. Orkz paint all the fast things red, so all the fast things are red. The colour red has become a legitimate indicator of speed to an ork, so all red things are fast, whether that is technically possible or not. I like the chicken or the egg situation. Maybe this specific thing is fast because its red, maybe its red because its fast, who knows? All the orkz care is that it is fast and red, the fundamental rules of reality are undisturbed.

I think your take on the Ork's gesalt power is honestly just about perfect from a balancing/in universe narrative making sense point of view and I do agree with it, though I will say that I find it so funny that I think I personally would like it to be a little (but noticably) stronger sometimes, say when there's a really bigh waaagh. Things like the Orks making a gun that just *actually* doesn't physically work but it *does* work for them and if you were to watch it you'd see it at least attempt to line up with physical reality but it'd just bend and warp the bullets through the chamber and out the barrel, literally as though it were distorted by the warp. Also other things like it making purple orks actually nearly invisible if there are enough of them to beleive it hard enough. I also do find the "I'm a tank I'm a tank" meme extremely funny, so I could perhaps see it as canonically happening *once* in one of the biggest waaaghs at the height of their willpower when actively fighting and winning. I like to beleive that most of the memes are theoretically possible as extreme exceptions and one offs to demonstrate the absolute pinacle of what's theoretically possible for it to pull off with the most willful orks in the smallest area in the bigggest waaaghs, just that 'normally' it's much, much weaker, the 'strongest' normal thing it extends to being those 'color buffs' you mentioned. Also one thing you didn't touch on that I *love* about the Orks is how chaos basically does not work on them nearly at all, and those few it does get are just killed for being 'not orky'. They are basically already in heaven so it makes sense that chaos has very little effect on them when combined with their gesalt

One of my favorite stories about the Orks is the one of the space Marie’s or guardsmen stuck in a collapsed building surrounded by an army of Orks with no ammo. They point there guns making pew and bang noise, and throw rocks before going KABOOM, and this actually makes the Orks believe they were shooting them and throwing grenades, allowing them to kill all the Orks.

I thinks its a feedback loop where the concept of red things going fast becomes so ingrained into the ork psyche that it begins to work the other way with the old Waaagh! physics. All fast vehicles are painted red, that's just how it works. That trukk is red? Then it must go fast because what kind of zoggin' idiot would paint a slow trukk red? Red things go fast because orkz paint the fast things red so all the red orky things must therefore be fast, no matter what on earth those things may actually be physically capable of. The color red has become a legitimate indicator of speed to an ork, and thus 'Red-unz go fasta'.

The Orks used to have one god, but it was too powerful and beat everything, so it perfextly split itself in 2, so they could each other as much as they want. Khorne tried to fight Gork and Mork but got beaten easily and went crying back to their domain.

Ork power is not to imagine their guns and their vehicles and their ships are not crap. It is the power to gleefully grab a sack of stikkbombz with no safety pins and stuff them in a sack. Or to grab a shoota that will break down, laugh when it does and just grab the next. This is compared to Imperial technology where a meltagun can be in service for hundreds of years and a starship can be thousands of years old and cared for like a holy object. Be a constant forward motion.

I have a 2K ork army built up over the past 8 years. Boyz, Killa Kanz, a Battlewagon, Deffdread, Nobz, Thrakka, a Weirdboy. I have 1000 points of Ultramarines including a predator and dreadnought, but they were purchased during 5th edition and everything is the old school scale and base set up. Most recently I got an Age of Sigmar Nighthaunt starter box just to challenge myself on super thin and whispy models. Tried airbrushing for the first time, it’s cool.

Another thing I like to use as proof of the color thing being at least somewhat literal, is the old tabletop rules only stipulated color, you did not have to physically change the model to get the bonus from the color. So if a dakka wagon is red and one isn’t, with no other discernible differences, and the red one is fasta on the table, which is arguably the most canon portion of warhammer, I’d say that’s pretty definitively proven.

In the 60K: Dusk fanfic, somehow some Orks get restored to their Krork state, and they are utterly badass. They have full access to their genetic knowledge (so they can make fully-function armor and weapons), stand a lot taller, and regard their fallen kind as an embarrassment fit only for being destroyed via orbital bombardment. And while they don't particularly like other races, and will enslave humans, they will also ally with humans and even protect them. Their leaders are two gretchen named Mork and Gork.
