Thanks so much for watching everyone! Sorry it took me so long lmao, which tracks in this game are your favorite?

I’m not sure. The real question is which game has the best stages. I think it’s zero gravity tbh

Aquatic Capitol is my Favorite. It is like a cool water park. This game really does take me back to my childhood. I got this game as Christmas present and I played it immediately on my PS2. Then years later I got it again for Nintendo Wii to play it again for old times sake since I lost the PS2 thanks to my siblings. I still hope SEGA Remasters this game and Sonic Free Riders cause the 1st Sonic Riders was the best. We can do our own tricks, boost, and attack our Rivals. That took those great mechanics off when they made Zero Gravity and Free Riders, only if your in 7th or 8th or 12th place, you'll be able to attack when u grab an item pod. They even messed up Super Sonic like what were they thinking? They clearly made him a power type. On the 1st Sonic Riders, Super Sonic was Speed, Flight, and Power. I hate whenever Super Sonic is playable in a Sonic Game, he always has to run on rings. I wonder what made Sonic Colors good enough to be remastered. I never even played to original game.

Super Sonic was OP on Free Riders and has Auto jump and auto High jumps on ramps and Zero Gravity Super Sonic is Perfect on Aquatic Capital and Tempest waterway while being ok on some other tracks like Gigan Device. And I agree with mostly everything else you said or I just couldn’t say much really.

This was truly a great nostalgia trip. I used to play this game so much as a kid that my friends started to hate me because they wanted to play something else with me lmao. I loved other racing games of the era like Mario Kart Wii, the Crash Team Racing games and similiars, I still do. I used to play lots of Mario Kart Wii with my father as well. But even him didn't really like this game because it was too complex and fast-paced, which is actually its main strength. Zero Gravity is far from perfect but it's tons of fun, and the best tracks of the game have such great vibes. The water tracks are insanely good design-wise, they make me wish every water level had some kind of water river pushing you everywhere. That being said, is there any modern racing game of this kind outside of the Mario Karts? Would love to play this kind of stuff on PC in a multiplayer environment.
You've officially got me interested in racing games with your amazing analysis of riders, mario kart, and all-stars racing! Incredible video as always!

Great video! It's definitely a shame this series died with (that which name shall not be spoken). It's honestly got a great aesthetic and seems like a lot of fun. These tracks honestly all look really nice and all the cool zero g shortcuts seem fun as hell even if they aren't super common. Not sure if I'll ever have the chance to give these games a try, but I'd love to see a new entry or maybe at least a remaster some day.

Not the biggest Sonic fan but if they ever make these games get re-releases, I'll try them. Great video still friend!

I think one of the things bringing Astral Babylon down that wasn't mentioned in its section is that you can't even play it until you've beaten both stories, since it's technically meant to be the A-Side track for Mobius Strip. if you got a chance to play it during the story, where the gimmick of the whole track being a boost section could have plausibly been implemented, it may have been a bit more fun to race on; maybe the Arks of the Cosmos get supercharged or something? idk. Mobius Strip's mandatory boss fight gimmick distracts from it some, but it definitely feels like the B-Side to Astral Babylon with the similarities in their design--wide open straightaways, short sections for different gear types, little to no actual input from the player needed, and the obvious basically-required (and actively forced, in Mobius's case) boost section. the design of them both being large, mostly empty boost-fodder tracks isn't good, mind you, but Astral being locked behind campaign completion alongside the Boulevard tracks just feels a little mean to me

I like the fact that Nightside Rush and Tempest Waterway's layouts are essentially the layouts of their respective heroes counterparts but backwards with some modifications, similar to the R/T tracks in Mario Kart Tour

I didn’t disagree with much in this video, but I feel like you’re misunderstanding the thematic intent of the Boulevard stages. To me, those tracks were never meant to do the same thing that Riders’ Carnival stages did thematically (if they wanted to do that again, they could have just brought the stages back). I always felt playing them that they were meant to be an extension of the setting ZG presents, which is far more contained with metropolitan/industrial themes than OG Riders’ flavorful selections of destinations. To me, the Boulevards were other districts or neighborhoods in the surrounding areas. The references are a little more subtle and baked into the world that’s already created, and quite well in my opinion (The Speed Highway helicopter or Taxi’s in the streets come to mind). ZG also didn’t incorporate as many unique stage elements as OG Riders either, likely due to the gravity mechanic. I believe you may appreciate those stages more looking at them as an extension of ZG’s overall aesthetic, and not just a stage that is meant to serve as a Sega-References attraction.

I mean they're clearly trying to do the same thing as the Carnival stages considering thats literally the theme of the track, and neither do it well, 90's at least is a fun stage outside of that, but 80's is literally just pointing to the other properties to remind you they exist, the stage isnt even relevant to anything else in the entire game
@AnferneeMyers3 ай бұрын
@@AstralKat I don’t effectively disagree with you, but I also don’t think they were beholden to replicating the same magic as the Carnivals. Again, given the new mechanical limitations, I struggle to know what they would have done to make these Boulevard stages as unique as the Carnivals. They could have gone a bit harder on the design side, but I think you’re also selling short some of the detail that did maintain through those assumed limitations as just ‘property reminders.’

I’m so glad I came in time for the video to actually already be out lol The worst ones for me are Tempest and waterway nightside rush, I hate them more than snowy kingdom if I’m honest, they’re good stages, I just suck at manoeuvring them The way I knew astral babylon was gonna be first😭 I also knew snowy kingdom was going to be second
I always felt the "running sections" where a complete of a mechanic, also i remember always feeling that the grind/punch/fly mechanics being behind a gears chance was also a bad choice, being part of the class was awesome and doing stuff like grinding on a bike was really cool in the first game, also who else feel that some gears where pointless like advantage P? Now on the tracks: I love both water stager but i always felt playing as a power character in tempest was pointless I also always felt the sega city stages felt more of a reference to Sonic adventure 1 and 2 than to Sega in general Man i wish they made a remaster of the first sonic riders and added more characters and stages from the other 2 games adapted to the mechanics of the first one

Nightside Rush and Tempest Waterway unfortunately are my least favorites, mainly because of the visibility on the track. I like that these stages are done at night with a ton of rain going on, cause it gives it a lot more depth, but for me it just fucks with my vision. That being said, definitely agree with you on the Babylon one being dead last lol
