The thing that really sets the Grim Dark of the universe in place for me is how the faithful have dozens of methods to outright condemn someone to hell and they use all of them, despite the fact that everyone sent to hell is a potential new enemy, so the smart thing would be to redeem and assure the ascension of as many people as possible, they instead go the opposite direction and sent numerous people to hell that could have most likely just be redeemed instead. It's the sort of counter intuitive stuff that really hammers down how, in this universe, everyone is screwed and crazy.
@pedroaugusto-fw2yt2 ай бұрын
In this setting hell is very picky about who they let join their side, part of the process of joining require you to cross the hell gate and survive, the ones that fail or get condemn just get tortured serving no real function other than entreteriment
@scannerbarkly2 ай бұрын
Well, no, the suffering of the lesser sinners powers very useful goethic magic.
@giacomoromano88422 ай бұрын
@@pedroaugusto-fw2yt beside what Scannerbarkly just said, sometimes very powerful or useful people are sent to hell and that's a huge "shooting yourself in the foot" moment. Thinks of all the templars that didn't die in battle and are sent there, all the politicians that made a poor gamble in power and are now in the Hell Sauna, or all the Iron Sultanate fellows that just happen to be at the wrong end of the Witchburner rod during a minor squabble, a powerful alchemist straight to the fifth ring just for that. If any of those start to fight for Hell, that's quite the blow. The faithful should not allow such things to pass in the first place, and them encouraging it really set the irrational nature of the setting as a whole.
@pessien84742 ай бұрын
@@giacomoromano8842to add to this, though, is that in spite of all these losses, I would assume that the sinners themselves would hate these very same people. If the faithful are irrationally condemning, then what about the sinners? Which are more prone to emotions and have less control over themselves. If a sinner sees a once faithful in hell, I'd assume that said faithful would be fucking torn to shreds MOMENTS after they manifest lmao.

Torn between a death commando with claws, anointed with grenade launcher or a artillery witch as a big hitter. Commando or anointed i can make 1 legionare and the sword trooper have infiltrate. Witch I can add another legionare with a bolt action for exactly 700 Ducats.. Plans to play fingers crossed and add the other powerful units when reinforcing later in the campaign.

The problem with legions of evil is that humans (and also by extension creatures largely modelled on us) are Social Animals. We have an inclination towards cooperation hardwired in. A tribe of early humans would pool it's food and help it's members if they fell short one day. Not every hunt or day gathering would be successful and hunger can lead to a negative feedback cycle where you're less effective at getting food from not getting enough to eat. These interactions are beneficial from a survival position, but they don't work if individuals are prone to casually killing their fellows for short term game. Said behaviour got selected against. These primate tendencies were latter elaborated on into moral frameworks once we had language and introspective minds. An agricultural society has a greater number of cooperative relationships (farmers work the land and produce crops, that grain feeds blacksmiths, carpenters, weavers and masons who make iron tools, strong houses, granaries and clothes many of which are used by the farmers to make them more productive), an industrial one even more so. A society composed of antisocial sociopathic individuals prone to violence would not be able to function. It would self destruct as it's members would inevitably tun on each other.
@scannerbarkly21 күн бұрын
I mean, that is not a problem, it is literally one of the main lore mechanics in the game that holds the forces of hell back from being able to push to a victory. They repeatedly attack each other, undermine each others plans, and largely refused to cooperate on a grand scale outside of very rare occasion.

Like with Wh 40k the setting and the normal life of the average citizen is so bad that why not listen to the offerings of dark gods. The Dark Gods in 40k don't just have strictly evil and negative attributes. Khorn is also the God of Honor. Nurgle can make you immune to more pain and suffering. If Trench Crusades lore wants to succeed with its demonic factions they need to bolster the lore with what do the common legionnaire get over siding with God. Both sides would need to offer something to bring converts to them.
