I picked up 2 of the GBX150’s and their cases on the last Amazon Black Friday deal for $235. I carry one in both of our vehicles. Great piece of gear.

What you want if you're not near a power outlet is the Noco Genius GB150.

The whole point of having this, is to be able to plug in if you’re using a generator or have an APU that does not charge your batteries. Not just to jump the truck. There are actually better jumper packs then the NOCO if that’s what you would mainly want it for. I needed mine to keep the batteries fully charged.

The wire gauge is great, but the wire casing on the charger end becomes very brittle in freezing temperatures. What appears to be stress relief at the charger-end next to the housing actually becomes the spot where the wire cracks, exposing copper. It's poorly engineered and needs to be redesigned. Mine experienced this wire failure at 36 months (warranty is 30 months) and they want me to pay for shipping to them, and 35% MSRP (who cooked that up?) which is $70, to repair original equipment. They consider this normal wear and tear. So the story goes that cracked wire after 36 months is normal wear and tear. If you think that reasonable, then you know what to expect.

i have to comment, why are you not running your fridge via split charge battery pack, that prevents you taking the truck battery flat after 2 days, a correctly sized drop back relay will protect your starter battery, and second why are you not using a 3 way fridge 12/110v/propane makes far more sense to me than constantly charging your truck batteries and or killing them, or buy a apu ??

Dude ,if you’re running a refrigerator or anything that uses much poweR your gonna buy a bunch of stating batteries! Thru are not made to be deep cycle! You need 2 completely different systems! You’re gonna burn up your alternator as as well ! You need an onboard dc to dc charger that charges deep cycle batteries! Your headed for a mess ! Ask me how I know !

The battery charger is connected to my generator. When I run my generator it charges the batteries. The battery charger has an AGM setting. It’s setup correctly. I have Optimum Yellow Top batteries. They are deep cycle / Starting batteries. And there are 4 of them. Never had an issue. They handle the load of the fridge and the inverter just fine. Been doing it like this for 8yrs now.

Just trying to understand this to make my own setup. I mainly want to run generator to plug my block heater in over night as an alternative to running all night as well as trickle charging my batteries with this NOCO. I have an aftermarket inverter that runs fridge, coffee, microwave espar bunk heater, etc inside my cab. Is it ok to run generator with this setup at the same time appliances may be running off the same batteries? @@DrivingByBraille

Nice. May get one. Just changed batteries the other day. Adding the generator this weekend. How many amps is that charger?
@DrivingByBraille
@DrivingByBraille 5 жыл бұрын
It’s a 15amp charger. Mine would “top” off the charge on the batteries in about 30mins after I turned the truck off. In this video, the batteries were pretty much dead.. I plugged it in.. I came back to the truck 10hrs later and the batteries were at 75%.. of course I found out today, 2 of the 4 were shot. So, I get to install 4 new Optima’s tomorrow.

Driving By Braille are you running that off your 2000 generator?
@DrivingByBraille

Yes. It’s hard wired into the shore power. Anytime the truck in plugged in, whether it’s the generator or an outlet, it turns on.

Driving By Braille cool. My prostar doesn’t have shore power. Will have to wire it to the batteries and then plug In once I return to the shop or generator when I’m out.

Just like any other battery charger. Connect positive and negative to the batteries. And I have it hard wired into my shore power box. So anytime I plug into shore power, it turns on.

Question,,, can you do a cycle with inverter power the noco ,and the noco charging the truck battery hopefully you get what I trying to say,,, some time wanna leave my small fridge plugged on the weekends but the battery died ,so I thinking this could be good Idea? What do you think or what you suggest
@DrivingByBraille
@DrivingByBraille 4 жыл бұрын
Don’t think that would work. Taking power from the inverter, from the batteries to charge the batteries. I think that’s called perpetual energy. Not possible.
