Quick note: in newer Obsidian versions, to create a checklist (at least on Windows), you'll need to press **CTRL+L** instead of **CTRL+Enter key** This behavior can be changed to whatever combo you'd like to use if you go to "Settings > Hotkeys > Toggle checkbox status"

Love this. I have always been nearly criticized for my directness in general but I 100% agree with you, I consume a ton of youtube content and sometimes it's painful to sit through a 10 minute video that could have been under 1 minute. I appreciate it a lot, have a great week!

@marredcheese2 жыл бұрын
FYI, you can put non-inline footnotes wherever. You don't need to put them at the bottom of the page. Either way, they will show up at the bottom in reading mode. And you can give each footnote a meaningful name instead of calling them 1, 2, 3, etc. The numbering shown in reading mode is automatic anyway, so the numbers you specify are meaningless. You can call it footnote 72, but if it's the first one on the page, it'll be called 1 in reading mode.

Thank you sir! I'm new to Obsidian, and this really helped alot with markdown syntax. What's interesting is that you can actually embed links, which is a pretty useful feature overall

Thank you for explaining all these useful syntaxes, one thing i learned is that there's a plugin called (Footnote shortcut) which might hep you get rid of the friction you mentioned in ( 11:02 ) as it puts the cursor right over the footnote after creation . but in my honest opinion I myself prefer your way (to define the footnote right after the thing we write and not at the bottom of the page).

*TIP* : 11:00 Actually, you don't have to come all the way down at all for the footnote using the [^1] [^1]: add footnote definition method. You can literally type type the definition on the next line, and Obsidian will move it all the way down automatically in Reading mode.

I write exclusively in source mode, so I LOVE that they show you the formatting even in source. I really hate markdown, but I have to use it everywhere and pretty much always have since it took over html as the webs main customization language. Being able to write in source but have it show me everything with the syntax is a lifesaver, and a feature I'll never do without now.

An efficiency note when linking to headers: When it drops down the list, highlight the one you want and hit tab. It will autofill with it and leave you inside the double brackets so you can follow up with a # or whatever instead of having to go back into the brackets to complete the link.

Nice summary 👍 9:36 - for some reason that first approach for footnotes doesn't render quite the same for me, it doesn't have the arrow button or a superscript footnote link (renders as "This is a footnote1" in read mode). The second approach works great though
@FromSergio2 жыл бұрын
Oh, that's weird, do you have Live preview turned on? Some people have some light bugs with that feature turned on.
@joshl.68262 жыл бұрын
@@FromSergio no change with live preview off, however just had a closer look at your example and it turns out it wasn't working because I had put "Footnotes:" on the line immediately before the footnote definitions. Looks like it only works if the footnotes section is separated with an empty line

it does not work for me though, and I have a line of space after each line of text:( Edit: it does work if the second method is used: This is a footnote^[Definition of footnote]
