My late husband was a policeman, homicide investigator, narcotics officer, firefighter, medic and then a prison administrator. I was a mom, medic and I investigated all kinds of damages for a communication company. With all that said, the one big issue I noticed was the way you parked your van. Always, always park in such a way that you can leave immediately… so never park straight in a space! Always back in a spot like you were in so to leave fast all you have to do is start the engine and drive away. You never want to have to backup into traffic . The best place to park in malls or big centers like Walmart or places like that, is along the side in a well lite area and closer to the front that has cameras around. Otherwise, you’ve done your research well. Maybe a siren alarm or a recording of a big dog barking. A sign that says “Beware of the dog “ never hurts either. An outside mounted security camera is also an idea with a security warning that anyone coming near would be caught on camera. I wouldn’t advise any weapons like a gun ever, unless you are in the USA. Guns don’t solve everything , especially in a foreign country. Be safe out there… blessings…..

Perhaps a window shatter alarm would stop the robber from breaking the window. I saw videos demonstrating 200 micron film prevents glass from shattering for 3-4 hits. He said they heard 5-6 laud bangs, so perhaps 2-3 hits too many and the windows shattered, eventually.

Oh dear, when I saw the title of today's video, my heart dropped. You guys don't post clickbait related titles. I'm so sorry this happened to you both. When they say you really can tell someone's character by how they deal with scary or stressful situations. Well if anyone had any doubts before, that you and Curt are truly kind and positive people, this video demonstrated it in spades. You are so correct that what happened to you could happen anywhere. I think it's sad when people start associating one unfortunate incident with a country/city or the people. Thank you for sharing what happened to you with such respect for the people and country of Chile. Wishing you and Curt safe travels always, with a special wish today, on my nation's 156th anniversary as country. Happy Canada's Day 🤗🇨🇦

Oh my goodness! Bless you guys! Praying for complete peace for you both! So grateful you are all ok and didn’t get hurt, that this person didn’t get into the van or get anything, got everything fixed/repaired! My heart breaks for you that you went through such turmoil going through this… your plan worked. So grateful you prepared ahead of time for this kind of thing. Curt, so grateful you could scream!!!! Praying you will mend quickly! Love you guys! Peace to you and buckets of love! Thank you, Almighty God, for You are the King of Kings, and lord of Lords! Your mercies and love are forever and ever!!!!! Love, Jojo

Glad you’re ok. Was a scary event. Get camera’s fitted, get tooled up and get some big lights so you can light up the whole outside area. I know you were not in a darkened area but for the future the lights work well. The bombproof vinyl, as we call it in the UK is pretty good. Good call. Saved a ton of glass everywhere. I know you have cats, maybe invest in a good guard dog. I did RV driving throughout California into Yosemite mountains.. there were a good few moments of danger. ‼️ Be safe and enjoy your time on the road. ❤

another place to park would be at a hospital, they are 24/7 and you can probably get a good nights sleep, security at hospitals is kinda low risk parking but at least there is security there.

Very scary situation and just a few nerves frazzled. That is fortunate. Within 15 hours to have the window replaced, security film applied And getting the exit papers for the kitties is a testament to your planning ahead! It seems like you two realized that too. I think it was good of you to share this episode and go over all the preparedness you have in place to keep you as secure as possible. I didn’t even know there was such a thing as security film for vehicle windows. I have had a few close calls during my travels in Central and South America over 7 yrs. The scariest was being robbed when I was asleep. It took just a few minutes upon waking to know someone had been in my hotel room during the night. I freaked out for a few moments until I realized, that they left me alone and only stole what was within reach, a phone and my purse. They shimmied up the side of the bldg and came in thru my open patio door. I was on the 2nd floor. It happened during lockdown so we surmissed that someone observed me going to the ATM as there are not many ladies using 2 canes. Luckily I had taken my cash out of my wallet and put it in my hiding place.

So glad you guys are okay. The way I see it, the only disadvantage is geographical. You are in unfamiliar territories and unsure of your surroundings. You are right, this can and will happen anywhere, so it definitely is not a negative reflection against Chile. Praise God all is well. Stay safe and take care!

Since we were persecuted and teased by young people in Australia, we have only stayed in very good residential areas there at 11 p.m. and in the morning between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Take care of yourself❤

This could have happened in a number of places in the United States. The difference is I am armed with a .357 revolver, and feel confident I can take down any assailant with a single centrally placed shot. In another country and you probably don’t have the option of being armed, which is why I would never van outside of the United States.

As a chilean I feel so ashamed. Until 2019 my country used to be the safest and most developed of Latin America. Afterwards something bad happened and now we have a government that doesn’t give a #!€&@! about the internal safety. Police was weakened and criminals have been released. I hope you have still a nice trip through chile and enjoy the country, the people and the food. Best wishes from France 🇫🇷

There seems to be a coordinated effort to have so many countries dismantled wholesale to become shells of what they once were.

The sound of a shotgun getting loaded, is a picture in the bad guys mind, of a bowling ball size hole, will deter even the most hardened criminal! Even crazy people fear the sound of a loading shotgun! Their is a cartridge that will not go thru walls but can still do some damage! When you see someone go after a cop with a loaded gun, even getting shot by the officer, it just make you think? What could have happened if you were not prepared!
@SkinE-Vadee-Veechee17 күн бұрын
A couple of ideas. Get a ccw, get a camera with a motion light possibly. They have so many different types now you'd easily be able to find one that would alert you if anyone was coming close. I think it might deter at minimum. And get yourself a piece of steel to cover all glass. Get yourself a blow torch Incase someone tries coming in. Also get yourself a ferocious dog that does not agree with others getting into it's personal space. Get a kevlar blanket to sleep underneath and most importantly get yourselves an escape hatch built into the van roof with a mini helicopter to quickly fly away from the danger. Hope this helps and be safe ALL THE TIME.
