I’m pretty sure you were able to recruit because defeating the Bandit Hideout gave you relation with nearby villages.

My advice is stay with throwing weapons. Stick with them and keep one so u can use it as a pole arm. Get a shield and as many javelins. Sneak in the city and see if you can purchase more. Hopefully you can get some legendary gear drop from the bandits. If not, go to the bandit camps. Clear one out and you can get some prisoners, good loot and sell it at the villages. With enough troops go to a desolated village that has recovered and demand volunteers. 😆

Just in the very small case, that you are not aware of it: You can press alt to see the movement speed of everyone near you. Because sometimes when I see you play you go over the enemy to check their movement speed. If you are aware and just not want to use it then ignore me xd

You could consider only recruiting from your prisoners. Only using bandit troops. Definitely only recruit equal to the numer of mounts you have re footmen on horses bonus, or actual cav recruits. Could maybe have remembered "x" change thrown weapons to melee use early on. I've seen the concept before and have been tempted myself. Very curious to see where you go with it.

Unsure if this was a consideration but this would be a good playthrough to try a bandit troop only party (Maybe subfaction troops too from the mercenaries like the legion of the betrayed.) would be more entertaining then just getting recruits from villages and spiraling like a normal playthrough. Of course you would have to capture bandits and recruit them from prisoners.
