Most UFC fans know Colby is a good guy underneath the act, but business is business. It's good but unfortunate at the same time that people don't recognise it as a gimmick, because it generates a lot of eyes on him. The downside and price he pays for the playing the 'heel', is that people truly see him as the character he portrays and despise him for it. Though, I'd also make the guess that people who are able to recognise it as a gimmick probably still get pissed off regardless, because he plays it so strong and convincingly.

Covington training at a place that embraces him rather than the fighters they’re talking trash to him all day is going to be so good for him. I can’t wait for the Usman rematch. I think Covington has a great chance of winning it. Then we have a trilogy.

Colby needs to prove how good of a guy he is and educate those that are trying to support him in the gym on what his gimmick terms actually mean. During his last fight, a very young girl from his gym was posting in support of Colby and using the hastag alllivesmatter, since he was using it on all of his posts. She is an immigrant and english is her 2nd language, and a literal translation of "all lives matter" sounds like a good message. I highly doubt a young immigrant (from a place that Trump would call a shithole country, no less) would get on social media and use a racist dog whistle phrase that actually means "black people should shut up and go away" if she knew the political meaning of it.
