Seeing a lot of weaknesses in Tom's game here. He tapped super quick to a heel hook. He also quit when he got injured. And before anybody says how it was reasonable for him to quit just look at Santos and Jones. When Jones almost broke his arm due to an armbar he never gave up. When Santos tore the tendon in his knee he never gave up either. You can also see Tom get's gassed quickly. He was pretty tired after the grappling that he had to do. He didn't defend takedowns well either. Perhaps he's improved since this (and I suspect that he has) but no one has tried to take him down since this. He's only faced brawlers. Austin's not a big guy either.

@@jameschambers9439 How do you know that? We haven't seen his wrestling in action and he literally just quit a fight due to injury. And before you say "he was injured", look towards other fighters who were in similar circumstances that didn't quit. Thiago Santos fought 4 rounds with all the ligaments in his knee torn. Dan Hooker and Kamzat Chimaev fought with broken hands. There's dozen of other examples. Tom quits when he gets injured. That's a major weakness.

I think Aspinall gassed himself out with the cage wrestling in the first round. Came out to strike, then tried to grapple him pointlessly, forcing takedowns that weren’t on clean and carrying the other guys weight through the transitions. He should have kept it at boxing range n he would have won by KO. Feel like he lost due to bad decision making here. Hopefully his wrestling is much better now too

Is he though? He fights exactly the same. This was the one fight where the guy knew how to disguise his takedowns .. and actually use them. Tom has been lucky in his ufc fights, that the opponents are standing and trading. If he has to face an elite level wrestler like Jones, he’s in trouble.
@danesetner740821 сағат бұрын
Jones will split Aspinall’s head open with vicious elbows. Aspinall likes to throw bombs and confident in his jiu jitsu game…that plays totally into Jones strengths. Jones is the highest IQ fighter there is and you never see him in a firefight throwing bombs with his opponent..which makes those fights 50/50(whoever gets caught). Jones instead controls action with being in and out…leg kicks…oblique kicks. Look at Aspinall’s last 4-5 ko’s and he was in with guys throwing bombs with him. Next …Jones is a master in the clinch game…the knees and elbows he would be throwing …Aspinall has never faced. John is a wrestler and loves judo throws and trips…Aspinall would definitely be taken down at one point. And finally here is where Aspinall gets destroyed by Jones…with Aspinall feeling confident in his jiu jitsu he will not fear being on his back…but Jones is NEVER on his back and has the most dangerous top game ever…and Aspinall would not have any answers or defense for the onslaught of punches and elbows that Jones would put on him. The Aspinall fans can’t imagine this scenario because they see Aspinall throwing nothing but hard shots that hurt Jones until he is ko’d. But just honestly ask yourselves…why is Jones never in that position? And look how each guy that got ko’d by Aspinall chose to stand with Aspinall…Jones doesn’t eliminate all his advantages and let fights become 50/50 with big right hooks. Why did Gane go 5 rounds with Ngannou…because he didn’t just throw down. You’re welcome for the lessons.

Jones also imposes the illusion that he is much heavier than he actually is when he forces his opponent on the ground because of his experience as a wrestler and his skills in BJJ, which is why Gane looked so hopeless against Jones, while he looked competitive even on the ground against the much heavier Ngannou. If Aspinall doesn’t KO Jones in the first round, I don’t see him preventing another Austin scenario against the much more talented and malicious Jones.

How many unanswered punches is that wrath going to allow for Stewart Austin? If it was UFC that fight would have been stopped before Austin got that heel lock. What a crazy ending.
