i exactly know what you mean. In times like this who everybody plays ego shooter or action filled games is everybody gone to the rapture a truly exit to a parallel universe where time have been froze. A really deep journey with every sense. Did you played "Dear Esther" or "Soma" ? I think you will like them ! Dear easter is similar to EveryBodyGoneToTheRapture and you will see some magic, shadows who suddenly appear and beautiful caves. Soma is more horror but have a very very very deep and memorable story too! Its about life and the question of god and the universe. I can recommend both!

I was thrilled to see there's a whole genre of games not about "tuff guy uses guns to solve problems." You can find a lot using the tag "walking simulator" on Steam. Here are some in this vein I enjoyed: Journey Dear Esther The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Firewatch The Solus Project Homesick Ether One The Turing Test Life is Strange Kona Gone Home Asemblance Enjoy!

At the end of Jeremy's ark I was standing next to altar facing the corridor. I was simply overwhelmed by what had happened and just stood there. And then I decided to move by turning around. And in the exact moment I came face to face with the image behind me, the music truly kicked in. And that's when I knew this game would mess with my feelings. And it did. Wendy's ark made me shed tears, Frank's was just "oh dear Lord why?" and Lizzie's cracked me completely, watching all those figures leaving, but mainly the smaller of them all going last. The phone call at the trainstation in Stephen's ark made me weep because by this time you already knew what was going to happen if you followed the radios and triggered every memory. And I have to say, despite everything... I do feel sorry for Stephen... he must have felt awful at the end... The soundtrack really completes this short, but beautiful story (won't call it game because personally it is missing a few elements to make it a true game for me IMO, but it's one of the most beautiful stories I've ever had the pleasure to go through) and if people haven't gone through it yet, I truly recommend at least one go. Favorite tracks: The Mourning Tree, All of My Birds, The Fragmenting, Carry Me Back to Her Arms, A Storm Over Yaughton, Aurora, Clouds and Starlight, I am not Afraid

What hooked me to this game was the transition into Frank's story, when Carry Me Back To Her Arms starts right at the beginning. It's just too sad and beautiful to even really experience in one play-through. I'm on my third and I still want to weep when I hear it.

@szw1337

Me too. It's set in a UK village in the 80s and as a child growing up in the 90s there are lots of images in the game/story that take me back to my childhood growing up in a 90's suburb. even the brickwork and the way the bus stops look in the game are perfect recreations of what they looked like back then, when I was queuing up for the bus to school in the morning. No mobile phones, no social media. A simpler time.

Fully agree. The "Granada's" the "Raleigh Burners" the "Commodore 64's" in the game etc are all so brilliantly done and although not the identical theme we were scared of the ever present threat of a nuclear war. I come form the 'Shire (Hampshire!) and was 8 in 1980, so yes I fully get the nostalgia ;) the game and soundtrack are sublime.

Every song grouping on here is somehow related to each of the mani characters... and it's just... so beautiful. I cried at the end of Jeremy's and Wendy's. Wendy was a busybody and kind of mean but... all she wanted was her son to be happy, to not make the same mistakes she did... i dunno, just a powerful, moving game, even if the game play left a LOT to be desired..

Probably not for everybody but that game come get me, the characters even if we don't see them it's hard to don't like them at some point and want to know what happened I found the game a little side but still a story I really like, but now I have so many questions in my head after I finished the game ( could not stop and finished the game in one shot ). Perhaps just a little annoying around the end where I didn't really know where to go ( missed some 'flashbacks' ) but was a little better when I noticed you can walk more fast with R2. X3

One of the best game soundtracks ever. It fits perfectly to vinyl record listening mood :) Just you, sitting outside in rocking chair, sounds flowing from gramophone, with cracking noises and that silent, buzzing noise, when volume is a bit too high and idyllic setting of your backyard with trees and bushes... Loving it!!!

The game isn't for everyone, but for me, it helps to have played the game. I have an emotional connection to the characters and I can tell what the storybeats are with the music, like, I know it's Lizzie on the phone, right before the planes come over in "I hope you find peace", so that moment kills me, and I know what Frank is thinking about when I hear his signature song (Carry her back to my arms), to me that connection between story and music makes both more moving. :) They enhance each other.

my intro to this genre was the 80s murder mystery series "Inspector Morse". theme music by Barrington Pheloung. maybe there's an OST on YT.

@@jamesheald4825 Actually, it's meant to be a mix of Vaughan Williams and some other person's name I can't think of right now. Here is the article if you're interested: www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jul/30/everybodys-gone-to-the-rapture-video-game-sound-music

@@MusicalInquisit Elgar - thanks for posting the article - it definitely has a feel of Vaughan-Williams. She has also followed the idea of him being interested in english folks songs and using that in her works

When i finished this game, i had mixed feelings between. I thought "what a crap, but for some strange reason i can't stop thinking about it". In time i understood everything, this game is about the journey, not the destination... and that feeling is like the wine, it becomes better with the years. I love it :)

Game's nothing too impressive but the OSt is fantastic. This is work of Jessice Curry I believe, who also did the OST for A Machine For Pigs, the Amnesia game. Again, not the best game but that OSt had some truly incredibly and skin chilling piano throughout. I find myself coming back to this OST every week despite never playing the game for more than 30 minutes.

Yeah, I get that the game is not for everyone, for some people it helps to see it as a book or movie where it's your job to figure out how the scenes should be ordered. For me, knowing the story (and which storybeats go with what piece of music) makes the music even more intense. I don't know how that is for you obviously, but if I know a moment in the music as a moment where a character died, or when that battle happened or when I saw that impressive cityscape, it makes the music even more emotional for me because I have that connection with the story or the character. :)

"To carry me back to her arms" - can't quite remember the chap's name, but this sounds like it's referring to the gent whose wife died (terminally ill) and when the planes fly over to bomb Yaughton, at this point he is going to be reunited with her.
