FIRST OF ALL…. AGRRO HAB WITH THE SHOULDERS UP IN THE EARHOLES WAS KILLIN MEEEEEE 😂 But on the serious tip, we NEED more reviews of creative media by folks who are actual creators of that type of media. Reviews aren’t just for rage baiting or hate watching they can be for education too! With that being said, as someone familiar and a fan of your work in illustrations, comics and toons, knowing that you haven’t watched the original, I really love your unburdened by the original yet nuanced and fresh approach to this review. You brought up details I missed and new details I now appreciate! ALSO I LET OUT THE BIGGEST SIGH OF RELIEF at the end of this pilot episode - NOTORIOUSLY any form of reboot is a miss but as a fan of the original and a lover of animation I felt this was more like the SEQUEL I never knew I needed! As a comedienne I believe the jokes were well placed in the story AND in the cartoony setting-like where’s Waldo with the jokes! Comedy was well timed and poignant to the story and relatable! AAAAAAAND I didn’t feel like it punched down or reverted back to tired ways of storytelling about Black folks and stories. AWESOME JOB HAB OH (and you too Comedy Central) 🙌🏿🙌🏿🙌🏿 KEEP EM COMIN!

Wow, thank you so much for such a thoughtful comment! I do agree, reviews and critiques on media are at their best when it comes from someone in that field. Just like sports commentary is better when retired players are the ones giving the play-by-play. You almost make me wanna get a Paramount+ subscription to dive into the full series, haha! Its' great to see fans of the OG series have positive things to say, I was worried that y'all wouldn't be too pleased at all!

The way I immediately subscribed when you started reading artists’ names out! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Nothing but love for animation and production workers ❤

Thank you for noticing and appreciating that! As an artist, myself, I believe it is incredibly important to highlight the talent that help to create these amazing works of art. I'm still working out how to make these types of videos, but I want to ensure whenever I speak on art, that enough background is provided to bring a stronger acknowledgement and appreciation to these (overworked) artists.

I love listening to an animator critique what's out in the ether of animation, It's not my industry so it's cool to hear what you think. I'm curious if they purposely wanted to avoid 3-D design to cater to a specific audience/budget constraints? Idk, but I would love to hear more about other animation out right now or past animation!

Thank you so much! A fully 3D animated series would absolutely cost more to produce. Which is why we don't see many shows, of high quality, follow in that specific direction. As far as Comedy Central's choice of art direction for this program, it just follows the trend of primetime adult animation. The more simplistic, the cheaper it is. Which is why with shows like Family Guy or The Simpsons, they switch to a static preset for their animation, often reusing assets (which isn't necessarily a bad thing in it's own right). Before I end up writing another paragraph (haha), I can definitely make a video on this subject down the line. I think it would be fun!

Not sure that you can give a well rounded review without having seen the original…
@davidallen52572 ай бұрын
Why not? None of his assessment of the animation was contradicting or objectively wrong based on the ignorance of the original live action. It was all just subject views that still feel informed based on animation and writing alone
@haboh2 ай бұрын
I completely understand where you're coming from. Having prior knowledge of the OG Series would have given me a better appreciation for this new adaptation. However, this is pretty much a standalone show that doesn't require you to have prior knowledge to follow along with the characters. My video isn't a review of the entire franchise but my views on the pilot episode's animation, art style, and writing.

@@habohYeaaaah, BUT: The whole aim of the reboot is to get back with the original fans, even the name implies that with "Still" imo, otherwise they would've just called it "Everybody Hates Chris", again. The other thing is, the original show is available for free on KZbin so there really is not much of an excuse for not watching at least one 22 minute episode. Give it a shot, trust me, you'll like the animated series even better once you understand the roots of certain things, like even the "My man has two Jobs!" line can't hit as hard without knowing the root of it, and the only reason they pulled that out in episode one is because they know their fan base was going to remember it and love it.

@@davidallen5257 no point of reference. You can’t even write an academic paper without reference’s. If you study English literature & want to discuss the gothic you need to refer to Blythe & Shelly. If you study law, you need to refer to similar past cases….It’s part of critical analysis…. The closest thing to compare it to here is the original…

Does the thought "that looks like white animation" make sense? Like it feels boring/generic.
@haboh2 ай бұрын
Absolutely! You make perfect sense. I call it "Sitcom Animation", it's meant to be produced quick and dirty and has a very stale feel to it. As I mentioned in the video, it can work for some shows, depending on the writing but for this...it just doesn't fit. I can't stand those eyes/noses!
