Taken from their masterpiece (imho) Songs From The Big Chair, this huge single of the 80's is a what one may call a shuffle groove. The difficult part while playing it is the tricky hihat pattern, which lays every second note of a triplet scheme. The rhythmic section (drums and programmings) on the record is credited to be the work of Manny Elias, who also was their live drummer at the time.
No editing, no triggers, one take.

That’s the best rendition in my opinion because he’s playing it exactly the way it was recorded. I find generally other drummers are taking liberty and adding things that aren’t supposed to be there. The hardest part of that song is playing it with the right tempo without lagging or speeding it up.

I really appreciate your comment.. Cause I wanted to avoid fancies and stuff on top of this main groove. But to be honest I couldn't resist so I added some fancy (maybe useless) fill toward the end hehe.. Plus the other fills in the song are not the same as the orignal ones. But thanks anyways for your appreciation. Cheers.

Great performance! This song me taught me how to accent on the snare with the crash, so simple and effective, like the syncopated tripled beat. It's great to see another Meshuggah fan worshipping Tears For Fears, in fact I'm working on a "Broken" drum cover ;)

Yea.. There was a time when Pop music was so interesting and sofisticated while remaining super accessible for everyone.

Hi! Do you have other drum renditions of Tears for Fears songs? I'm curious how the drums for Mothers Talk and The Working Hour is played out!

I was thinking about some other TFF tune to play through. The problem with some of them is that they are programmings and very basic "real drums" hits. So I don't know how much useful and entertaining at the same time could be preparing one of those. This particular song I made is no exception but it has a shuffle groove that was interesting to analyze and show off (at least to me).
