It's a classic for sure but very much sounds like the 80s. Which isnt bad but I wouldn't say it's timeless. Some songs seriously seem to have a sound seperate from the decade they were in. This isn't one of them. Still a great song.

Well you can’t put a blanket statement on all 80’s artists. Some like Axl Rose sound awful. This guy just took care of his body and likely kept up with his voice. Warm ups, lack of drinking drugs etc. Good for him

The fact that these guys can not only still sing this perfectly at their age, but harmonize on key as well is insane. I don’t care how good those headphones are, vocal cords decay and hearing fades (especially for musicians) and this isn’t exactly an “easy” song to sing. Really impressive. True natural talent and skill on display

My oldest memory of this song is one day in 1987, it came on the boom box radio in my bedroom, and it was absolutely pouring down heavy rain outside as I watched out my window, I could hear the roof getting hammered by the downpour.

I was born in 2008 so i didnt grow up listening to this song; however, I can see why people love this song so much. Even though i wasnt born in the era of the song, the song makes me feel like i was there. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also, I gotta give props to Tears and Fears. I listened to both the original and the 2022 version. He still sounds amazing even after all this time.

I can’t find a single flaw with this song. Perfection in every way. To me, it is relatable to everyone if you truly understand the lyrics. It essentially asks the question, “How do you go for what you want in life without harming or stepping on others?” Or maybe, “How do you attack your ambitions without damaging or harming the world?” At least that’s how I’ve always felt about it. It makes you think. I love this band. I’ve probably heard this song 1,000 times and it doesn’t seem like enough. So good to see them doing so well.

Curt Smith's vocals here still class. Roland Orzabal's have suffered a bit in the last 2, 3 years. But live they sound as lush and prime as always, they are worth to go to the concert, it is well-made adult pop.

Hauntingly beautiful 😊 I will never tire of listening to this song. His voice is perfection. Kind of reminds me of some of the balladeers of the 50s. There will be many who try to cover this but will always come out short.

I grew up in Upland CA. ‘71 as well. Home of the Badlands. Pipeline. This song was everywhere at the skatepark for two straight years. We were punk rock but we LOVED this album. Man. These guys are pure genius.

im born 88 and i agree with you. while i have a soft spot for the music i listened to in the 90s as i grew up with it, when i listen to 80s music there is pure soul in the creation and idea behind each song, no-one sounded alike but every song held that 80s pride

Curt and Roland, I don't know if you'll ever read this, but my dad introduced me to your music. He loved you guys. He couldn't get enough of Songs from the Big Chair, and The Hurting remains one of my favorite albums from start to finish ever. He passed at the age of 56 in 2019, but I still listen to you guys, and it helps me to feel close to him. @@liberalsarethebiggestcryba6654 I'm an 80s kid, but I think the 90s was even better with the likes of Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins, R.E.M., Metallica (Black Album), the second british invasion (Oasis, Blur, Pulp and Suede) many unforgettable "one hit wonders", etc. 60s - 90s all were decades with some amazing music, with the 90s being the absolute peak IMO. After that, it dropped off. I rarely listen to music from the 00s and beyond.

One of the biggest songs ever...amazing / What a great time. I sit in my new Ford Capri, my surfboard on the roof, drive onto the motorway towards the Baltic Sea, put in the cassette tape and this song hammers into my ears, what a feeling , I ruled the world - it's been a long time ago.

Soooo nostalgic!! My mother used to listen to an 80s radio station while she drove me & my brothers to school back in the early 2000s. God bless that woman for introducing little me to so many gems! Love TFF!

I'm doing that now with my 9 y/o daughter. She knows Tom Petty, Queen, AC/DC, Toto - there are just too many of the greats to mention here. The other night I played her 3 TFF songs and she loved them all.
