I am very happy i found this channel. I plan on showing my young son these videos when he is old enough. It is a shame these are not shown in schools i think modern children would benefit greatly from being taught courtesy, modesty and manners.

I grew up and was in school in the 1950s and early 60s. The teachers showed films like this on a routine basis.

@@crybebebunny , cultures are ways of behaving. Cultures are beliefs about the world. Some ways of behaving are better than others. Some beliefs about the world are better than others. Some cultures are better than others. But it's important to remember - that every culture has much complexity - that no culture is entirely good - that no culture is entirely bad - that every culture has something valuable that it can teach to other cultures - that intercultural education and understanding and communication are important and are means by which all cultures can be improved.

We were shown this movie and later had a poster contest. I plagerized the "Be a Good Listener" poster including the horn held to his ear. Miss MacFeaters really liked it.

Imagine trying to even suggest this stuff to a class in a public school in Chicago, Detroit, or even Los Angeles. If they even updated this to modern standards, styles and languages, can't you imagine the gales of raucous laughter you'd be greeted with? I wanted so desperately to please everyone, I tried hard to be a good kid. I won't date myself too much, but I will say that when I was in kindergarten, I was the only kid with a divorced mom who worked. It's a couple decades after this, but I still was a rarity (although there were a number of kids whose parents were split up or separated, but it wasn't common knowledge. Dads who slept in a different room or on the sofa or worked until late. Lots of those.)

This current generation demonstrates extreme need for learning consideration and respect for others. The problem though is that they don't care. They are haughty and extremely prideful. They've never been taught correction, as though they are all fatherless. I know a great many are, but the remainder has obviously never been taught correction either. Where people refuse instruction and correction, there is no hope of good change.
@cacatr4495

bloom4mee Yes. I was speaking in generalities about this current time. Fatherless or not, too many now are without courtesy and thoughtful consideration. We know that countless members of previous generations were reared by women, and were very courteous and thoughtful. Their mothers took a strong stance in demanding that of them. When I said "as though they're fatherless", it meant the implication of lacking correction and instruction, rather than literally having no father. I hope you understand my expression. I'm sorry you were without your dad, and obviously you were blessed with a great mom. Not everyone has been. Thank you for sharing. 💞

Unfortunately, it seems that children are being taught to have an unjustified sense of entitlement these days. Many of these old videos should be shown again to classes of children. I was a child in the '50s and would have been grateful to have seen some of these, myself at the time. Not everyone was fortunate enough to be taught such things at home, even then.
@drewconway7135

CA Catr "where people refuse instruction and correction...." Huh? It sounds like you are blaming the children. It's not their fault for not knowing what their parents didn't teach them. Also, what part of the current curriculum would you like to sacrifice to put this back in public education? Science, so that kids won't be able to get a job? Math, so they won't be able to manage their money? PE, so they'll get fat? Or music, so they'll be culturally illiterate? I'm betting it's the last one. That's always first to go.

Hmmm. They're already pulling all that in my once-beloved home state (I'll give you one guess...a state which plummeted from being in the top 3 states in education to be 47th so quickly that it had to be intentional. )

Maybe all the sex-ed stuff that shouldn’t be taught in schools? Manners were taught for hundreds of years, even in school. It wouldn’t be hard to incorporate stuff like this into school, if you wanted to.
