Hello Ty, what a great line of videos, thank for the previous help on getting my mule settled. I kept turning her on the front and things worked out quite well. I have now run into another interesting problem. I bougt this mule as broke to ride but could not get her to stand for mounting . I worked her as per your video for fence work and mounting block in the corral and things went quite well. I followed along on your videos, going good, then one day she was a bit of a chanllenge to get on out in the field. I found that if I asked for head towards me, she would stand for mounting. Then one day, as I stepped on she bolted as I swung on. I went back to the round pen and mounting block, set her up as you said and she settled, let me put my leg over her etc from the mounting block and stood good. Difference was she was just sort of locked there in this situation. Then, when I was away from the corral, I would ask for her head around to the side, need to dally on the horn to hold her head arond as I mounted and I could mount. Once mounted I have no trouble at all. As long have her head iturned at about 90 degrees with a good dally on the horn, I can get on, but if I try to mount with her head straight in the normal manner she bolts off just as I throw my leg over. She stands solid for me to get lined up for the stirrup, to step up, but as soon as I swing my leg over she bolts. If I have someone try to hold her lead rope as I swing on, it is that much worse. There is just no way someone can hold her from bolting. She is a bit of a nervous type mule, but has been no real problem riding, just this swinging on thing. Is there anything you can suggest for getting her to settle as I swing on, the ground is just too hard to keep on this way?

Another great video. Thanks Ty! So sad, we were scheduled to start packing up to head to Salmon, Idaho today. We will keep working on our mules and be ready for next year.

I’m doing some re-training of a retired Amish plow mule turned trail mule and this video was very informative. Mounting has been the biggest obstacle and even though she is slow and not bothered with the mounting process she wants to walk away as soon as my weight is in the left stirrup. I noticed that the britchen you use in this video has buckle covers. I would love to know where you got it. My younger mule is bothered when her tail gets caught in the buckle of her britchen.

Good video. Knew of a horse once that was hard to dismount (not mine of course, ha, ha). It was downright dangerous! Maybe you could touch on that subject one day? mb
