Another wonderful video, Anna - very well researched and very informative! I completely agree: I did my undergraduate at the University of East Anglia (UEA) and here, we do not have any catered options. We split between shared bathrooms or en-suite. I personally opted for the shared bathroom and stayed in the famous ziggurats (they feature on an album cover by the streets and overlook the lake!). The pros were definitely sociability and location right overlooking the lake and next to the library and the main campus square and facilities and student union. Cons...shared bathrooms can be pretty unsavoury at times and the building was a little like a greenhouse...concrete and glass! Stay safe and strong and keep going, wonderful stuff! Xx

For the accommodation I’m applying for, you get to choose if you want a mixed or single sex flat. I’m a big girls girl so I feel like I’d be more comfortable in an all girl environment but I’m worried about bitchyness!! Have you got any advice on this?
@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
I personally chose mixed as I think the dynamic of mixed is really nice. But, equally some people love a single sexed flat. I really think it depends on who you get as it does with all flats it’s a bit of a gamble. I would choice whichever you would be more comfortable in. I hope this helps x

Loved this Anna! Super helpful. Just wondering, are you able to get accommodation after your first year? Or is it reserved for incoming first years?
@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
You can but not all accommodation, some are reserved for older years but a lot are just for first years. Private halls tend to be first come first serve and keep a certain amount for older years or other students but again there are less. Hope this helps xx

Hi Anna, which en-suite accommodations would you recommend at University of Birmingham? I’m quite sociable and do enjoy going out and I would like a fairly nice room xx
@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
I would say the vale, if your sociable its really sociable on the vale and there are so many students there. En-suites that are nice are chamberlain and Mason are very nice rooms, hope this help and you get where you want xx
@charlottebell90973 жыл бұрын
How does Birmingham pick your accommodation? Also which is nearest the gym? Thanks
@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
It’s random, you choice your top 6 in order and then they try to put you in one which is as near to your favourite as they can. The Selly Oak accommodations are the nearest to both the main uni gym and the Tiverton gym which are the only real gyms near the uni and where everyone goes. Hope this helps let me know if you have any more questions x

what are the reputations of different accommodations at bham? xx
@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
So... tennis courts definitely has a bit of a party rep and is renowned for being very social, a lot of people really like this one but it is shared bathrooms. Chamberlain, is quite posh being one of the most expensive accommodations but it is really nice. I wouldn't apply to any on Pritchatts park, its not on the vale or selly oak and gets bit lost with all the other accommodations. The ones on selly oak are all slightly less sociable than the vale and there are less students there in total. BUT the location is amazing, really close to the uni, gym, shops and train station so it really depends what your looking for. hope this helps?

Hi I love your videos so much! I'm going to bham in September, do you know anyone who stays in the green community? I love the look of the accommodation but am a little worried about having extra commitments environment wise. Also what do people think of the global community? And how do duplex rooms work kitchen wise, I know 2 rooms share a bathroom but what sort of kitchen do you get in a duplex? Thank you!
@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
Hi so excited for you! I have heard really good things about global community, everyone is supposed to be really sociable and the accommodation is nice, I believe duplex just means that there bigger, so bigger kitchen as your a flat of 18 which is a lot more compared to the normal 5/6, so just think a bout if this is something you would like. Hope this helps!

@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
Battery park is so nice but slightly quieter as it is away from the vale and the other Selly Oak accommodations. Oak Brook park has a really good reputation for being sociable and near everything but apparently the rooms aren’t so nice and its a little old round the edges. I hope this helps!

Hi Anna, are the any other living options for first year other than uni accommodation?
@annarebecca3 жыл бұрын
Hey, yes you can go for private accommodation. So if you look for flats in town or if you go on Facebook pages you can find student houses that need an extra person. This would be with older years though. It can be a little lonely if you do it this way though so it depends what your looking for!
