I am preparing my garage floor to install an epoxy coating with the flake finish but before then I have some repair work to do. I have done a prior video on repairing cracks • How To Permanently Rep... but this one I wanted to show how to repair a pitted of chipped concrete floor which should help get as smooth of a floor finish as possible before putting down the Epoxy.

Whoa!!! At that price? I'll still do my floor with two parts sand and one part portland like I have been doing for years and as long as you remove the spalling appropriately you're good. I imagine the chemicals are toxic. Just wear an N95 while mixing portland & sand.

I’ve never done this repair this way. But I’m going to try it next time. What he’s talking about is Portland cement. You can buy it in 95# bags at Home Depot or the like. I don’t think it comes in smaller bags. I normally just mix up a small portion of regular 60# bag of cement in a bucket and then brush water onto the damaged area I’m patching, beforehand. Then put on the wet cement and use a slightly wet concrete brush to smooth out this repair. The only problem with my repair is that the bagged concrete has small stones that you have to pull out while using my method. His method, you buy the 95# bag “it’s a fine powder” and mix it 2 parts play sand and 1 part Portland and do the same as I do with the regular cement bag. Portland is the “binder” holding the rock and sand mix in cement together. You will have more to throw out a bigger unused bag but this will give a smoother looking finish than my method. You can store the Portland cement for a while but it will sooner than later get hard and useless. Duct tape the unused portion and put it in a sealed bag. It might last a year or so, but eventually it will go. But this method would cost less than $20 and patch as much a you can imagine a 50# bag of sand will fill! Way cheaper, than epoxy. I’ve patched a lot of areas over the years with my method and had good results. And his idea should make better results and easier than my way.

$200 to fill that small divet? Lol. I'll just buy a bag of cement.

This is an educational video. For illustration purposes only. I agree with you. No one in their right mind would spend that much money for a small discrepancy in their concrete.

I had this problem about 15 years ago. It started like a small circle and then spread like cancer. A home inspecter said that it was a bad pour. Could have used your tip back then. Thanks, You always provide some good info.

My buddy had a chip in his garage floor from dropping a bfh on it. Anyway he cleaned it then filled it with JB. It dried, he sanded it smooth and that was 20 years ago. 😂

Believe it or not Bondo works great for this and you don’t need an angle grinder to sand it.

My garage in the corner was all chipped plus the rest of the garage had bad spots as well. I called a company and they had the total floor resurfaced and flaked in 6 hours. The diamond blade cutter machine they used 1000 lbs! Sherwin Williams sells that chemical solution kit for the repair. Definitely use a mask. It's been a week and I still smell it a little.

West System epoxy with or without sand works great for this, half that price or less. Plus you can get slow set if you want so you have longer working time

Not using a vapor barrier or enough concrete with rebar will cause it. A lot of new Construction will pour 5 driveways and garages in a day

Do you know if this can be used outdoors? I didn't see anything in their data sheets saying whether could be used outdoors, or indoors only. I've got some spalling at the edge of my concrete patio which will probably keep getting worse from freeze/thaw unless I can fill in the pits and low places. Do you know of any alternatives that come in smaller packaging for those of us who aren't contractors and don't need a 100 year supply?

Why do you need to fill it? I would think that when you apply the Epoxy later it will fill that hole as it is fluid like and even auto level itself?

When are you doing the garage floor in your house? You were planning on grinding the whole floor from what I remember.

Yep, I just returned the rental today. This will be a full grind on a rental property then using Concrete Floor Solutions Epoxy kit. Need the weather to cool down a bit so the Epoxy doesn't setup faster than desired then I will finish the installation. Probably next week 🤞
