The way the DS2 plan acquisition is framed tends to suggest it was a heist that the Emperor made easier, but it is kept pretty vague. In the scenario where the alliance steals fake plans, that means they have to be convincing to a group that they know has access to the first Death Star's plans, while not being accurate enough for them to use once the attack is underway. At that point wouldn't you essentially have to have the architects craft a completely different Death Star architecture in addition to the one actually used for the false plan? The amount of work that would take for a false flag bait runs the risk of the Rebellion discovering the station on their own terms, making them even more wary of information they acquire if they know the Empire will expect their retaliation. It's not like the Emperor even left them in position for that information to work well. He had a massive defense for the Shield, meaning the fighters couldn't enter the structure, set up a massive fleet to wipe out a potential assault, and omits the DS2 actually being operational while able to quickly destroy Cruisers and having operational point defenses for the fighters. Logistically there would have to be several steps to clear beyond "just use fake plans" given how hard the working DS design was to finish, much less a fake-but-convincing set for such bait. Even with the real plans, the Rebellion came within a hair of being wiped out if not for the Ewoks and Han's ploy to capture the Shield base well behind the planned time. This would be a Post-Hoc plothole because it assumes the Empire could draft believable fake plans for the Death Star and put them in such a position as to convincingly leak to the Rebellion without also acquiring the real ones or any inclination that there is more (much less different) information. On top of that, this whole argument is a whataboutism that assumes RotJ (often debated as being of-quality in the OT and generally agreed to have questionable writing decisions) is an entry that these critics do not also criticize AND whose plot hole has relevance to/explains away the reference point of contention in the Sequel film in the first place.

@papershadow69 yeah but why not have a backup shield generator for the actual energy core that wasn’t a part of the original plans and was added by a special team a week ago? We know from the prequels that smaller shield generators like this do exist. I mean it could have been because of his overconfidence but I’m sure most leaders would have taken the extra precaution since the same thing kind of happened with the first Death Star and it’s destruction coming from their overconfidence and would have taken the extra risk since they were putting all their eggs in this one basket.

32:27 it’s also VERY much worth pointing out that Yoda originally didn’t train Luke because he was testing him and Luke just acted like a bitch, and Yoda still chose to test him at Obi-Wan’s urging and knowing that Luke (and Leia) was perhaps their only hope(s) in saving the galaxy. Because of this, Luke learned from the situation and grew both as a Jedi and as a character. In TLJ Luke refuses to train Rey because he was a cunt, and he also had no motivation for wanting Rey to succeed, AND he didn’t end up training her at all anyway. All Rey learns from the experience is... don’t trust in myths that you didn’t even think were real in the first place the previous day? You don’t need to train as long as you flail your lightsaber with confidence? That people can just outright lie and say their situations were the same is hilarious. Rian Johnson WANTED us to recognize them as similar, and they seem to think that’s enough; they’ve just fallen for extremely lazy bait without using their brain to actually think about what they’re watching. Edit: 4:45:35 coincidentally upon further watching, here is exhibit B of "Rian Johnson wanted thing so don't think about what led to thing"

Anyone else notice this? This thing of how sequel defenders must always spend half of their videos setting the viewers up to feel certain things and/or talking about how people who dont blindly consume whatever products thrown at them are toxic & etc and/or how society views whatever movie in a bad light is totally not because of what's actually in it but rather because of expectations or just the classic "people who dont like it are blakisms and blankists" and/or having to point out how the previous movies weren't absolutely perfect in every regard imaginable by pointing out something like bad acting and speech patterns, like that's comparable to how people are now able to destroy whatever spaceships they want anytime they want as long as they have someone willing to kamikaze................or just have some spare droid laying around. Of course there are even more recognizable patterns amongst the sequel defenders but you all get the point. Why do the sequels need so much setup to be talked about? Ya know, it's almost as if its a bunch of trash written by two idiots who hate each other.
@Canaris34 жыл бұрын

Hey guys, I comment on your videos a lot, mostly just for fun or the shitposting, but I'm pretty down lately. But you guys are such fun to listen to. It helps. It's nice to tune into a discussion with real dudes and dudettes who don't get wound up and offended by every little thing. I feel like if I were on your podcast I could speak my mind, no matter if we disagreed or not, before getting on with laughing at terrible videos. That's the kind of podcast I enjoy. Just like the Drunken Peasants back in the day. It's an oasis in a sea of bland or nightmarish shit. So many times I feel outnumbered by the kinds of people who think everything is racist or sexist, even some of my friends can get that way sometimes. Some of my online communities are gripped by this mentality and I feel like I'm walking on eggshells just to fit in. Places where shitposting or off-color jokes are immediately branded "hate speech" and "problematic". It makes me feel like I'm the asshole sometimes, when intellectually I know I'm not. It's a real pain in the ass. So thanks for showing that real people of all stripes still exist, can gather, and can enjoy each others company laughing at shit movies, regardless of your race, sex, sexuality, politics or creed. Don't quit.

The more YT reviews I see like these, the more I think these YTers are all film appreciation majors who simply want to classify everything as good regardless of the merits of such claims, knowing they write at the same level of incompetence. @dragonknightleader14 жыл бұрын
Film Studies majors and most professional critics are also very snooty who believe they have an "evolved" sense of taste and they definitely poo-poo plenty of media that doesn't fit with their taste. Oscar-bait movies are a good example of their taste while many popular films are seen as for the plebs such as the MCU or the Orville. So it's not like they can't discern good from bad, it's that they have a lack of empathy for why popular media is popular.

Wait, what's so bad about it? When I first heard it I had a "meh" reaction, but people seem to be offended by the fact that the person partially responsible for Palpatine's rise to power doesn't have it that well. Is it about the fact that he ended up as a clown? Please elaborate. I'm genuinely curious.
@kingkwon80024 жыл бұрын
Arko Palpatine tricked the entire Galaxy, not just one man/Gungan. In fact, the Gungans as a whole were nothing more than pawns to help the emperor solidify his power. But of course these writers don’t think that hard. Jar Jar’s downfall is purposely spiteful imo because of its completely meta commentary; him becoming “a clown that only children loved but adults hated,” and that the Gungans were “convinced he and Palpatine were one person.” Lucasfilm’s way of mocking the character, George Lucas and the fans all in one swoop.
@unpopularopinions74074 жыл бұрын
Arko Regardless of how you feel about Jar Jar, when a large part of TPM was him being an exile who is accepted back into his home, it just doesn’t seem right to have that suddenly be undone in a book and have his character end right back where he started. At least we can probably make some good Jar Jar/Joker memes now
@kingkwon80024 жыл бұрын
Unpopular Opinions Doesn’t change the fact that Jar Jar was only one out of trillions of people tricked by Palpatine, added to the fact that he was an essential part in bridging the gap between the Gungans and the people of Naboo. Under any other circumstances, that would’ve been extremely beneficial for his people. I’m not asking for anything to be “undone,” I’m saying look at the facts. With, or without Jar Jar, Palpatine would’ve created the Empire which makes his fate absolutely undeserved.
@MF-nu3pe4 жыл бұрын
I think TRoS would have actually been amazing if Palpatine killed everyone. He's the only one in the movie that actually worked to earn a victory. It also would have been very therapeutic for every sequel character to be killed. Similarly, it's kind of what Disney did to Star Wars, they plunged it into darkness.

4:31:59 As if to insinuate Luke's "old mindset" was to stab family in the back, hide from responsibility, and give zero shits about greater causes. The guy that stood by his boring aunt and uncle to help them with unfulfilling farming, instead of pursuing a glorious battle against the empire, and then when they died, didn't hesitate for a moment to risk his life, step up to face off with those responsible, and in the end, had the faith to believe his murderous, dangerous father wasn't beyond saving.

Regarding fixing the Lightspeed ramming in future Star Wars stories. Outside of just retconning it out (which I would prefer, it is stupid), one could potentially draw upon the lore behind Interdictor Cruisors (which show up in Rebels) and their gravity well generators which when active prevents lightspeed travel around the ship using the technology. The problem presented in the past for such technology was that it was incredibly energy intensive and thus required a dedicated ship which could also only field minimum armanent, but if it is a question between using such technology and getting lightspeed rammed I think the answer is obvious.

5:16:00 This is something that really annoys me about the discussion around Rey. Thought Theater says that Rey's identity is tied to her lineage in a positive way because "They're coming back". But, that has nothing to do with lineage. Rey doesn't want her parents to be special, she just wants them back. Her reaction to her parents not being special should have been "I don't care, I just want them back". Rey being upset that her parents were nobody is the moment that broke her as a character more than anything else that happened in the entire trilogy. Before that, she had a motivation that was uniquely hers, and that would be hard to achieve, even with all her power. In other words, for all her flaws, she at least WAS a character. Then, Rian sanded off her only motivation and turned her into a generic plot device/self insert.
