Call it an unpopular opinion but Star Grift is a big step up in quality from any other podcast Theory has done in the past. It is great to include different opinions from all corners of the fanbase. Theory's optimistic nature complements the more nihilistic and chaotic Ryan takes, and Mauler ties it all together. Love to see the progress, Theory, and it's noticeable, especially getting to meet Hayden. Keep it up!

Grievous literally got destroyed by the 2008 show and has not recovered. Everything before hand (even the movie which wasn't that good to him) at least treated him with respect and used him as an actual force until 2008 decided to make him a joke.

Grievous being so impressive even relative to some of the best the Jedi have ever produced is stupid though. His character isn’t even very good or interesting either.
@shadowofdimentio461810 ай бұрын
@@shanecoyle8053 Dude was a war veteran from one of the bloodiest wars in star Wars, a master at combat and was then given the an artificial brain that could process information faster than any human, with armour that was more durable than star ships and training from Dooku himself (who is an expert in dueling specifically). He's then taught how to overwhelm opponents, use every advantage he has (including very unorthodox methods like his feet or extra arms) in a era of peace where most jedi aren't taught or have experienced real war. He is given specific body parts that let him defeat jedi, such as his feet that resist force push and pull, as well as wrists that can pivot and gain extra reach. He can think faster than most super computers, putting him leagues above any Jedi who isn't putting their all into force Precog. It makes a LOT of sense why he was a monster no Jedi could really beat. Anyone with force crush bodies him (Something only the Sith use, as well as Windu) or anyone who can stay calm like Obi-Wan. He was literally the perfect tool for a story perspective. In terms of character, everyone thinks Grievous rocks. He has plenty of character, both from legends and Movie/2008 (the good scenes of him anyway. The very few good scenes). He's a war vet who hates the Jedi specifically and hunts them like a monster. Anytime the story focuses on him, it shows him as this unstoppable monster that portrays the monsters the Jedi have created. Is he as interesting as Vader, Luke or Obi-Wan? Of course not. But the fact people still call him cool and want him in stuff despite how much 2008 tried to butcher him really shows how such a simple core principle can make a character. If we get into Legends then I'd argue he's a brilliant character only beaten out by Dooku in the prequel trilogy era for villains

They get so emotional about it because they infuse their real life philosophy with Jedi philosophy.. I saw somebody absolutely reject yoda from the prequels because in the OT he said only use the force in defense, never attack. He said yoda was not defending obi and ani from dooku in AOTC. I'm with Mauler. Syril Karn is a fantastic character in Andor. He's the hero in his own story yet in reality he's just another cog in the machine. A nobody trying to make a difference. That, honestly, is more endearing than your typical 'hero' nowadays. He's almost like Luke Skywalker when he was a whiny brat, still stuck working for his uncle on that moisture farm.

@@Apac12 ya this isn’t the best medium for him he isn’t a argumentative person He seems to be rather changeable even with views that it seemed like he held tight so I agree I am disappointed to see him come off as ignorant with his opinions but that could just be a issue that he isn’t fit for debating he doesn’t seem to be made for it, and as you said, this is essentially a debate every week there’s value in all Content so theory is best off working off of his optimism not against it
@brovinafilms777410 ай бұрын
I actually agree with these takes - I really appreciated Theory when it was just a one on one with someone like Josh. Mauler and Ryan seem a little too one sided and further away from Theory’s fan base on this channel. I love hearing Theory but hate the position he’s being put on when on these newer live shows.
@jonnywaldis827510 ай бұрын
@brovinafilms7774 But what's the point of sticking one's head in the sand and ignoring the situation? The franchise has largely been ruined and the people handling it have not produced anything worthwhile in a long time. Insisting that the same cooks who produced nothing but burned soup claiming it's great cuisine will turn this around seems like folly. That there's generally no counter to the criticism brought forth pretty much proves there's nothing to hold onto and it seems much healthier to acknowledge that and move on.

34:44 "Is there anything that George said about what is canon in Star Wars or what the intentions of Star Wars are that you've felt, nah, that's not true?" Yeah, I can think of a few. One being that George claimed Obi-Wan was more powerful than Vader when they fought in Episode IV. Doesn't gel with me. Also -- I'm unsure if this was actually said by George or not -- but I've been told that he said in his sequel trilogy Leia would have been revealed to truly be the Chosen One and also that Darth Maul would be shown to have survived. I don't want anyone being the Chosen One other than Anakin (weakens the first six films) and I've never been a fan of Darth Maul having survived, for any reason.

I love tcw but there were like three or four times Ahsoka’s incredible story could’ve ended very organically. She could’ve died at Any point in the Clone Wars to drive Anakin further toward the Dark Side, she could’ve died during Order 66, and she could’ve died during her fight with Vader. But Dave just keeps plugging the life support back in, refusing to put his OC to rest smh

I don’t think y’all need to change the name, Star Grift is a great name. Theory already had a show called Rule of Two and this show is different enough the name change isn’t necessary. Also yes please have Nerdrotic on sometime, Real BBC and Open Bar are some of my favorite shows, so having Gary on Star Grift will complete the trifecta of my fav hosts being on here (considering Drinker already guested once).

I think what I see from Dave that Theory appreciates is a love of Star Wars and its characters, which is the one thing I will say Dave has that is good. He knows and loves the characters. Unfortunately, I don't think Dave has the talent or intelligence to craft good stories and do the characters he loves justice. Every time he touches these characters, it feels like a grown man playing with his favorite toys.

2:28:47 "I think *The Mandalorian* would have been a much better series is _Baby Yoda_ would not have been in it." // At first I thought so, too. They could have made it a story of _pure badassery_ ... They could still do that. Why not produce a Mando prequel series..? With the dude just straight on bounty hunting... maybe show how he got the Razor Crest and stuff. Grogu is a Disney character. They may have overdone it with the cuteness... to the point of silliness, sometimes. But actually it's quite a neat story idea to have a Mandalorian foundling overcome his trauma and solitude by slipping into a father role and finding a family of sorts... Grogu is a cool idea, although I'm not sure if the direction they took with the little guy looks promising. (Why not just let him stay with Luke and Ahsoka? That's where he belongs. Why not let Din Djarin visit sometimes?)
