Marvel taught us that Wanda’s grief must be taken seriously because she lost her entire family, Vision and her fake kids AND IT WORKS. Fans around the world still considered her as a tragic misunderstood “hero” after she enslaved almost 4000 people and killed a lot of heroes. “They will never know what you sacrificed for them.” Meanwhile, Marvel also taught us that Thor losing his entire family, his home, his real eye, 75% of his population and his girlfriend is HILARIOUS. We should laugh at this guy for being “pathetic” and miserable. And his misery made him less worthy as a king than Valkyrie (who enslaved people for millennia) and less worthy of being Thor than Jane (to the point that Mjolnir reassembled for her but not for him with he needs it, like when fighting Thanos).

Imagine if Fat Thor never existed in Endgame and he was still the same way that he was during Infinity War, an arc of him overcoming his feelings of apathy towards living his life as a warrior with the Guardians helping him through it every step of the way would have been an amazing movie; it should just be about them working together as a team while on a journey across the galaxy to prevent Gorr from successfully completing his genocide of the Gods. No King Valkyrie or Zeus, Jane can still be here but she doesn’t get powers and it shows her in the final stages of her cancer; (due to the events of Thor: The Dark World) she and Thor would exchange words and it would basically be both of them tying up any loose ends left between them in a heartfelt goodbye scene as Jane passes on soon afterwards. Gorr should be more prominent in this film but he isn’t corrupted by the sword and he truly believes that he’s doing the right thing for the universe, with the threat he poses well established it would take everything that Thor and the Guardians have to defeat him. Also keep out Eternity since that whole wish plot point breaks the universe even further.

So in the previous Thor films, Hopkins' character made it a point to get Thor to understand that his powers do not come from the hammer 'are you Thor, god of hammers ?' but now she gets the hammer and is suddenly imbued with Thor's powers and becomes Thor too... ?
@ritenac6770
@ritenac6770 2 жыл бұрын
It’s going by the logic of the first film. He enchanted Mjolnir with ‘if they’re worthy they shall posses the power of Thor’. It’s technically separate in that Odin has provided the power with his magic. So if you can lift it Mjolnir will channel that magic into you, though for some reason this film decided that this will literally make you Thor rather than just strong
@Alex_Fahey
@Alex_Fahey 2 жыл бұрын
@@ritenac6770 Except, as the following MCU movies established, the hammer doesn't actually have any Thor powers outside of Thor. The hammer is just training wheels attached on the bike of Thor. All it provides is its enchanted traits of massive weight to "unworthy" hands and the directable flight of the hammer. Captain America didn't gain Thor's armor, godly strength, and lightning bolt throwing powers on top of the super soldier serum when he wielded it despite being worthy enough to do so. It was just a hammer and all he managed to do was call down lightning once (which could have been intentionally provided by Thor and not Cap). It's just so ridiculously inconsistent. It'd be nice if they just stuck with one version. Is Thor actually just a regular Joe and Mjolnir is a magical artifact giving supreme power to the wielder? Is Thor a normal asgardian with a natural talent for lightning magic and a cool hammer? Is Thor some kind of divine being who can grant GodMode onto others by snapping his fingers? Just pick one and stick with it please.

@@Alex_Fahey The lightning bolt was definitely Cap in Endgame, he's clearly gesturing Mjolnir into the air when it happens. I genuinely appreciate pre-Ragnarok Thor every movie Thor's in now. He's just a fucking cartoon character now. Aside from Infinity War which felt like a return to that original character he's a joke. I used to call him boring or uninteresting but man he really did have a solid character. He went from a spoiled uncaring prince to a man who realizes he has an immense power that can be used to harm and must learn to be humble. That conversation he had with Coulsin in Avengers about how he and Loki are essentially destroying everything in their path. He used to chalk it up to war and now it's something that can be avoided. It's just such a great character resolution from his arc in Thor.

I know age of ultron gets a lot of shit, and rightfully so, but it's one of my favorite movies for Thor, especially as a character that gets played for laughs, one of my favorite jokes being when Natasha asks him for his opinion on Hulk's performance and he says how Hel is filled with the screams of the vanquished, but then sees Banners reactions and tries to recover by saying it's screams of pulled hamstrings. I know it's not great but it's a compliment Thor would give to someone he respects, but when he sees he upset Banner, he has the emotional intelligence to try and correct for it. The returned god is now afraid because he finds out that with just a snap he was wiped out of existence. And quits helping with worshipers as he just hordes his wealth, life, and powers for himself. Gor finds him and god explains that there are other gods in the universe (which Gor may not even be aware of) and the god has found the 'God-Killer' sword to protect himself. Gor kills him because his god is weak and afraid and seeks to find a new god worthy (bring back his daughter) and the sword convinces him that none are. or 2) There was a war between the gods after Thanos snap (or Iron Man unsnap) and the war spilled over into their worshipers who bear the brunt of this war of gods.

The entire concept Jane Foster becoming Thor using Mjolnir is actual nonsense. In the MCU, Mjolnir is shown to be a powerful weapon and the CONDUIT of Thor's, and as shown in Ragnarok NOT THE SOURCE. The whole point of Ragnarok is that Thor's powers are his and he doesn't need Mjolnir to use them. HOWEVER in this movie Mjolnir can somehow give people powers. This completely contradicts Ragnarok in every way possible.
@ritenac6770
@ritenac6770 2 жыл бұрын
The becoming Thor part is stupid, but the giving powers part is sort of in line with previous films. Going back to the first Thor film Odin did put the enchantment of ‘if they’re worthy shall possess the power of Thor’ and in Endgame Steve did use some lightning whilst wielding Mjolnir. This shouldn’t mean they become as strong as Thor (since Steve didn’t either) and definitely shouldn’t just be made the new him. But gaining some powers isn’t a complete contradiction

I think a way to greatly improve Gorr's character would be, after first using the sword, to instead have him say: "So this is my vow, all 'false' gods will die." We add nuance to his motivation similar to what was done with Thanos who went from wanting to wipe out all life simply out of a love of death in the comics to a (misguided) effort to keep life from destroying itself due to overpopulation and conflict for finite resources. Gorr now makes it his mission to free the universe from these "false" gods who prey on weaker people to prevent any others from suffering the way he and his people did. To add to this, I'd have at least one planet where he killed their god be shown as notably better off for it, similar to how Thanos claims Gamora's planet is a "paradise" after his purge of her people. And have Gorr show some hesitance/inner conflict after seeing Thor put himself in danger to save his people on Earth. This would be alien behavior to Gorr who has a negative view of gods in general and would add some significance to when he says: "You are not like the other gods I've killed." This added condition of killing "false" gods would also coincide with what Odin says to Loki in The Dark World: "We are not gods. We are born, we live, we die, just as humans do."

In Phase 4 they introduce something in every movie that destroys the franchise. They constantly one-up the previous movie, and do it so incompetently that they invalidate what came before. The same thing is happening with Star Wars. Even if it is a prequel they need to increase the spectacle without any consideration how that shatters previous world-building. Then they enter the retcon phase where they try to retroactively fix their mistakes, creating five new ones for every one they "fix" (which is usually not accurate either). This is modern Disney. Proof that inclusivity, diversity, and agenda are not a replacement for skill.

For some reason, it's always gotta be "It's the end of the world, it's gonna blow up and only YOU [Main Character] can stop it." Ms Marvel, Moon Knight, Spider-Man, Falcon and Winter Soldier, Dr Strange, Shang-Chi, they all have some Earth Ending threat to prevent. Only really Hawkeye has a properly scaled threat, an assassin with a vengeance working for Kingpin. And She-Hulk, dare I say, has the right idea of a threat, it's scaled good enough (SO FAR), as garbage as that that show is. How can the Avengers top Moon Knight stopping Ammut from reaping countless souls, or Dr Strange preventing the destruction of infinite multiverses? They can't. What, some robot wants to drop a city out of the sky? Pppffttt, Ms Marvel had to stop a universe from colliding with ours in her first appearance

I wonder if the way they produce these movies has changed in some way in phase 4. In previous phases, even in movies that you might not like, like Iron Man 3 for example, they at least seemed somewhat internally consistent, like they wrote a script and shot it and released a movie. This movie, and Doctor Strange 2, feel like a fucking mess, like they just shot random shit for 2 years and stapled it together, and had a bunch of different versions of the movie that they mixed together but ultimately got the worst possible version of every part. I mean these last two Marvel movies have been catastrophically bad even if you take them in isolation and not just in the context of the rest of the MCU. It’s honestly fascinating.

If the rumors are true, the version of Dr.Strange 2 that made it to the screen actually is BETTER than the first complete cut. Apparently the Execs noticed that there was almost no Strange in his own movie, panicked and filmed more scenes to actually get more of him in there. This really smacks that the higher ups are just letting people do whatever they want, then scramble when the eventual vomit hits their desks.

I vaguely remember hearing about lots of films getting moved around and the release slate getting shifted around over and over due to the pandemic. Imo the real issue must have been that they had no clear roadmap for what they were going to do after endgame, bc Disney probably wanted to use the MCU to get as many people as possible onto Disney plus asap. That lack of a roadmap probably just became a bigger and bigger vortex of compounding problems once the pandemic started, and given Disney's political obsessions, the people left in the company to steer the ship through that vortex were probably diversity replacements that had been brought in after the talented people who helped feige build the infinity saga (well, minus endgame) had been shown the door. Just a cavalcade of issues putting a billion different stresses on a release slate that had no clear narrative thrust from its very outset bc it was meant to throw shit at the wall of Disney plus for a couple years to see what would stick, bc after they wrapped with Thanos, they were probably confident that they had accumulated enough goodwill to spare for trying out some experiments with Disney plus before people started to sour on the brand. Then the pandemic hit and they just didn't have anything in the pipeline that was prepared to handle that kind of crisis situation.

Regensburg Cathedral took 240 years to build. The reason it looks like an asymmetrical mess is that each successive architect that took over the project didn't want to do what his previous predecessor wanted out of ego. Instead of sticking to the master plan, each architect wanted their own vision imprinted on the building, each generation trying to out do the others. And of course the result is the the front façade of Regensburg Cathedral looks so damn inconsistent. It's the same thing with these film franchises, nobody wants to stick to a master plan.

The most I've ever cried (by far) at a piece of media was in Squid Game when a certain adorable old man lost at marbles. I was seriously affected by this as I'd grown a very strong attachment to the character, not least cos aspects of him reminded me of a close family member who had died the year before. I knew his death was surely coming at some point, and that only made it all the more soul crushing when it became time for the adorable old man to go, I had never cried like that to a piece of media ever. So, I was soooo, so very glad when in the final episode the show decided to make me feel like a huge fucking asshole and a fool who wasted his tears on the most evil fucking character in the show, one of the most cruel, manipulative and unsympathetic characters I've ever seen in a piece of fiction. Tattoo scene idea: Thor has been cold and distant to Jane throughout the movie so far, while she has been boisterously adopting the character of old Thor- loud and brash and eager for battle. She's coping with her illness through escapism essentially, and hoping to regain a sense of control in situations where normally she hasn't had any- in this case, superheroic fights. They've just finished a battle, but Thor's been wounded by the Necro-sword. He's fading in and out of consciousness. Valkyrie, being an experienced warrior, has gone into medic mode and orders Jane to grab various supplies as she rips off Thor's shirt to get at the wound. That's when Jane gets a look at all the tattoos for all the people Thor has lost. It finally sinks in how much this isn't a game and how Thor has suffered. Being a god doesn't change that. Valkyrie again barks for the medical supplies, snapping Jane out of the reverie. She hands Valkyrie the ointment. As soon as it is applied, Thor snaps back, howling in pain. "Easy, easy," Valkyrie says as Thor gets a hold of himself. He sees Jane looking at him differently. "What?" He asks. "Nothing," she replies, and looks away, uncomfortable after all that's just been dropped on her. Then Thor starts to put together what happened and looks back at her. We can see the wheels turning in his head. If you really need to put in a joke, you could instead have Thor use humor to push Jane away, like have him say "Like what you see?" Referring to his bare chest. Or something stupid. It would obviously be a deflection from the situation, and it wouldn't be my first choice, but if you have to...

The confusion isn't helped by the fact that "he" is played by a male actor, but the whole "the name is Axl, now listen to him" line from Korg feels very much like the "just use the pronouns, bigot" wokescolding we get in the States. Edit: Upon looking it up, I think I am correct since Tiaka is apparently getting flack for having a joke about Thor "dead-naming," so yeah. Marvel officially hates the idea of people being heroes. That's 6 things in a row now (with the blessed reprieve that was NWH) where the person who's in charge of setting things right is berated and made a laughing stock for presuming to make a difference. Doctor Strange isn't a hero, he's a diva who has to "hold the knife". SWORD guy isn't law enforcement doing his job, he's evil because he was rude to Rambeau in a meeting that one time. Now here, Thor can't win no matter what he does. When he does the reasonable thing and (gasp) _asks the congregation for help,_ he's laughed at as having a hero-crush and swiftly humiliated, while the women immediately deciding to assault and rob the guy for his weapon because he said the word "orgy" is treated like a lol random relatable joke. But then when Thor shows up to battle because (gasp) _they asked him to and he does what they ask,_ everyone hates his guts because he's "a showoff," while reckless child endangerment is a lol wacky kid-power moment. Consistently now, this media has done nothing but tell any viewer unlucky enough to be male that all you can do is shut your food-hole and _beg_ for the villain to just ... change their mind. Yknow. The demographic most prone to self-destructive ideation and self-termination. By far. Even _Steven_ fucking _Universe_ was less anti-dignity, anti-agency, anti-human than this. Pissoff, Disney. This is the type of messaging that actually harms people. Respectfully, a depressed male who already has enough self-sabotaging attitudes to choke a donkey. "People can be better. I want to make people believe that they can be better." -- Jack Kirby

As im rewatching a very obvious thought occurs to me. Marvel, fiege specifically, got cocky is all. They thought, going into phase four, that they had the formula. That we had been eating the sludge, but they didnt realize we were eating the bits of true vision that were there, and spitting out the sludge. Mostly the markus/mcfeely/russo vision, but also branaugh, johnston, favreau, and whedon. They underestimated what those writers and directors did. They thought it was the sludge formula that made them, but it was the individual visions, working from continuity, that made them. What are the most praised of the franchise? ALL markus/mcfeely/russo creations. The russos said it themselves. Marvel has no plan. It was THEIR plan that brought us through phase three. Now that fiege has brought in nothing but woke rookie writers and directors they have nothing but the sludge, and theyll soon realize it takes more than that to keep even general audiences interested.

To answer Shad’s question about cancer from someone who works in the genetic field, Cancer is caused essentially when cells become unregulated. Most often, no one gene can cause this, but mutations that build up in a persons life can lead up to it. Some cancers are sporadic, but some are familial. BRCA1 and BRCA2 are the two most well known cancer marker genes that come to mind, and those can be inherited. So in essence, some parts of cancer can be inherited, but it’s a roll of the dice and lifestyle that will really determine if one gets the cancer.

"Boys" is up 17% from season 2, which saw roughly 891 million minutes watched by this time after release, so that puts them around 1.05 billion minutes in season 3. For perspective, "Lucifer" on Netflix had 1.4 billion minutes watched by this time in 2020, FatWS had 855 million and "Cobra Kai" had 2.1 billion, and only one of those can be considered truly game-changing television. "Boys" is a safe bet for Amazon - it's got a great floor due to the hardcore following among liberal and libertine college educated whites - but that floor is also pretty much the ceiling. The big growth was from season 1 to season 2 (234% increase); while they've locked in those gains, the lack of Cobra-Kai or GoT-style year-over-year growth suggests that they've gotten to saturation.

I’m astounded that it takes approximately 10 minutes for the crew to alight upon the perfect reason for the expediency of Gor’s turn in a single scene, have him kill a “pretender” God and then realize it was actually God. It’s like how I’d wish a studio would for once just crib an idea straight from an RLM digression and see how it turns out, it shows exactly how much the studios have sucked all creativity from the writing room by hiring bad teams, giving them impossible mandates, spreading them across countless projects and tie-ins, and being incredibly risk averse. Keep doing what you’re doing EFAP, I can only hope this encourages other people to think and talk this way about their culture and just maybe produce some of it as a result.

Imagine this alternative story. Gore is contacted by the sword while being strangled. The sword tells him it can give him vengeance, but he has to do something in return. Gore is conflicted but ultimately gives in when the sword uses his daughters death as motivation. Gorr proceeds to nearby spaceport to begin his quest. Gorr runs across the Guardians and Thor, who the sword immediately marks as a god. Gorr follows, and prepares to kill his target when he sees Thor and the guardians save some innocent lives. This conflicts Gorr, who makes brief contact with Thor but spares him. Gorr is punished by the sword, having some of his control stripped away and he’s forced to go hunt some Greek gods who he brutally murders. Thor is actually contacted by Zeus, and the Guardians strangely volunteer to watch his back as he travels to the city of gods. Here Zeus explains about the Sword being on the loose, having found it’s champion. Thor is on the trail of the sword, and ultimately faces Gorr down in their second encounter. Thor is badly beaten, and saved when the Guardians intervene, however several members are badly injured, perhaps one even dies. This forces them to bow out, but not before getting an injured Thor to earth where we are introduced to Jane Foster again. Thor tries to contact Zeus, and discovers Gorr already made it to the city and slaughtered hundreds of gods before the rest escaped across the many universes. Gorr is now heading to earth to destroy the asgardians, growing more and more corrupted by the sword while his inner conflict grows. Thor is still too injured, and though some of his allies such as Valkyrie, Korg, the warriors three, all make valiant attempts to hold Gorr off. In desperation, Jane Foster puts herself between Gorr and some Asgard children. Right as he’s about to kill her, the fragments of Mjolnir reform and rush to her hand transforming her into Mighty Thor. She fights off Gorr before losing her strength, having been utterly drained from the experience. She then dies from the immense strain on her body. This pushes Thor into a dark place, fully serious and removed from any comedy. Gorr returns to the city of the gods, where Zeus throne acts as a bridge to Eternity. Gorr is waiting for Thor to meet him there. In a moment of self control and lucidity, Gorr reflects on his violence, on how far this has all gone. The two share a somber moment before Gorr acknowledges there is no going back. Eternity will let him destroy all gods, and only if he destroys all gods will the sword give him his daughter. But it takes blood to open the gate. Thor and Gorr battle for real now, both at their peak in a fight that shakes the whole City of Gods. Through their battle, both shed so much blood that they inadvertently open the gate of eternity. Thor let’s his guard down to plead to Gorrs sense of right, and is seriously injured. Both get tackled through the gate. You are left with a mystery about the wishes made. It’s an abstract, vague experience and when the dust settles, Gorr has been freed of the blade, and Thor is healed. Gorr dies, but not before expressing thanks to Thor for giving him the strength to do what was right in the end. For showing him not all gods were evil. He could die happy because his only love would live on. Thor is confused, but relieved at the resolution. Then as he is leaving, he receives a sudden communication from the Guardians…..who claim a strange, white skinned alien girl just showed up on their ship…..which had been transported to a very real, and very thriving Asgard….. Roll credits.

I feel like Disney just sort of vaguely gestures at plots instead of actually writing them these days. Like, I can see the pitch this movie was supposed to be about: "A man loses everything, and swears vengeance on the cruel and capricious gods. A dark power grants his request, but states that it will cost him his life in the process. He accepts. Our god hero figure, previously developed as liking and protecting mortals, himself in love with one, struggles with loss, The human struggles with mortality. They are made aware of the threat coming for all the gods. They set out on a quest together, where they encounter other gods who confirm the godbutcher's statement that most gods don't care, and are in fact cowards. In spite of this realization, the heroes still struggle against the godbutcher. The human bravely faces the fate that even the gods cannot change, her mortality, and earns a hero's death. The god shows he actually cares about mortals. This convinces the godbutcher not to be destructive as his final act. It is that human connection, that love, that convinces the godbutcher to not be destructive in his final act." Gotcha. Nice thematic Arc. Except they do none of the legwork, don't take it seriously, and basically expect the audience to fill in the blanks where actual character development and thought should go. They don't establish Gorr beyond a paper thin motivation, they just state that the sword is corrupting him, they don't explore anything about Jane's feelings on mortality beyond 10 seconds of conversation. They don't bother dwelling on anything about what the existence and attitude of this multitude of gods might mean. It's all just slapped together, and writers and execs are expecting the audience's own knowledge of clichés and tropes to fill in the plot holes and omissions. This isn't even touching on what this could possibly mean for the shared cinematic universe that is still supposed to exist, where the introduction of all these new elements just blows previous canon out of the water. I find it really annoying, because I think there is a way this story, a meditation on mortality and immortality, could have worked, but they needed to spend way less time on nonsense action scenes and more time actually trying to give the characters motivations.

That pitch is too coherent. They have a list of five cool ideas they need in a movie, and give them to the director who always wanted to tell his story, but could never get a green light. He cramps the cool ideas into his story and bada bing, bada boom, you've got a pile of shit.

the part that took me put of it was the drafted children fighting shadow monsters and the whole scene is played like a fun joke.

I liked Ragnarok but disagree with rags that it knew when to be solemn and when to joke. Asgardians are watching serta destroy Asgard it's a serious scene and Korg makes a shitty joke

@@a.wadderphiltyr1559 I'd say you just described love and thunder but Ragnarok does have sincere moments like with Odin's death

I know what scene you are talking about, but the joke is only treated like one in a meta sense. Korg was not trying to make a joke at the expense of the Asgardians suffering but rather he was reacting to a situation he had made awkward because he didn't expect Asgard to explode.
