The year He-man and masters of the universe was big on TV, my son wanted that sword like nobody's business. I couldn't get it anywhere. I couldn't even get the Chinese knock off, Strong Man sword. So, I made a sketch of the sword then scaled it to a four year olds size. It was his favorite toy that Christmas. The morning after Christmas, my wife and I woke up to the sound of popping from down stairs. We went down not having any idea what we'd find. My son had taken out every glass Christmas ornament he could reach. Dozens of them all broken around the tree.

Ive made a few of these for my nephew and he absolutely loves them. I manage to get the best present of each Christmas and it really makes me happy. This year i did 2 gladius out of iroko and oak and we've had a lot of fun duelling.

Nicely done. I'm glad you showed how to make it with simple tools. The fact that you include a plunge line will insure that stick stays tuned up for generations lol. Great video Dustin.

Fun project! My best friend, brother and I would make swords playing on our block out of tree branches and carve them with our Scout knives. Very crude, but fun. My brother and I would do the same when we went camping. Thanks for the memory. 🎸🔪

I just finished making a Bowie knife for my oldest nephews high school graduation present. I made it out of curly maple for the blade and handle then dark walnut for the handle scales he loved it. I stamped his initials into the handle so he always recognizes it as his

one of the best lessons people can learn is how to adapt. like using the leather gloves in the clamp. look around.. what can 'fill in' for what you want done. this approach can help in the shop, out in the wilderness for levering your car up to change a tire, just all sorts of things in life. many people, not having this skill, just think that without the 'right tool' a thing just can't be done.

I totally agree. Adapting is crucial.

very nice work. and for anyone complaining about not having a jigsaw. I have purchased 3 chorded craftsman jigsaws in my life and never paid more then 5 bucks for one. just keep an eye out at garage sales and online marketplaces. I have found so many good rasps and files at garage sales as well.

Definitely. Most of my tools are second hand. It’s just a matter of keeping your eye out for what you want.

Should've given the guard more curvature rather than just straight across. Like an upward swoop on both ends.

Shinto Rasp are great but I wouldn't waste my money on harbor freight rasp the steel is so soft that I have worn out the steel on a single project on medium hardwood. But Amazon has several nice sets for 10-15 dollars more that will last much longer than any harbor freight rasp so you might be spending 20-30 dollars on Amazon versus harbor freight $10 but you won't have to throw out the Amazon set. Don't get me wrong I love harbor freight especially there upgraded Hercules sandpaper has been great many of there woodworking clamps are great starter clamps among other great tools I just don't like their rasp sets
