I think they spared her for research purposes. She has a complicated past(psychological study), is a good opponent(killing several aliens), and showed sympathy when her alien doppelganger was killed. The end was actually refreshing and the whole film was brilliantly shot. Thanks for the great recap!

I loved the movie but I'm mixed on the ending. I like that they spared her. I didn't like that she accepted them as she did. It. It's fine that the whole human race is enslaved as long as a few who treated me badly are too? That undoes all the working through the issue and character growth in the scenes before that. In my mind, the movie should have ended with her being dropped down from the ship. p.s: If you liked the movie look up Dark Encounter.
@vixenvxce1063 Жыл бұрын
@@tkragonI don't think it's bad to be fine with terrible people being enslaved. They deserve it. The problem arises is that it's likely she's the only "good person" to be spared in such a way.
@Tina99999 Жыл бұрын
@@vixenvxce1063 I dont think it is so easy to say somebody is terrible. A family in that story lost their daughter. Ask yourself how many days/years would you need to forgive somebody for killing your child/friend? Even if it was an accident: would you look at that person the same way? If she as the killer didnt went through the pain of being isolated would she learn to be more careful in future? Would she be the same person she is today? the grieving people who are punished this way will never have a chance to grow and better themselves now. You know the saying Every sinner has a future and every saint has a past? We should refrain from judging other people or deciding what an appropriate punishment is.
@vixenvxce1063 Жыл бұрын
@@Tina99999 Sure, but the entire town harassing her? Over something she clearly regrets and doesn't forgive herself for? I can understand the standoffish behavior from the family, but not from the entire town. I even mentioned that I don't think innocent people should suffer, and clearly the family AREN'T the terrible people I was referring to. Also, that mentality is incredibly dangerous. Isolation and harassment are NOT how you solve issues like this. A little girl doesn't deserve to be harassed every waking moment of her life up until adulthood to instill some kind of lesson into her. Didn't she LITERALLY regret doing so the moment she clobbered Maude over the head? That's enough of a lesson learnt. Send her to a psychiatrist in a mental facility and have her do community work. DON'T make her life a living hell just for the sake of it. "We should refrain from judging other people or deciding what an appropriate punishment is" Yet you're proceeding to do JUST that by justifying the entire town harassing a young girl over an obvious mistake she made when she was a child. This mentality screams immoral puritanism. Many people in this world deserve the worst for how they behave.

Probably the best part of the alien design was that they were clumsy and mostly unarmed. It's almost like a research team came down to earth to do some minor mind controlling and came across a rare dangerous breed of human that unfortunately killed a few of the research party. They then examined the creature, releasing it back into the wild (earth) but kept it tagged (the other alien mind controlled humans) to continue ongoing research on this rare phenomenon. It made the aliens have more complex personalities, not just robotic dogma or decisions like most alien movies.

Wow, now that was something different. Really liked it, enough that I fired up the ol Hulu and gave her a spin. The story bore a strong resemblance to that famous Twlight Zone episode 'The Invaders', with Agnes Moorehead. Loved the stark realism, loved that there were only 5 words of dialogue in the entire movie, love that they made the lady such an interesting character. A very girlie seamstress, living in a remote cottage, decked out in her oddly specific tastes. Almost like a doll house. Lots of flowery crap all over the place with a generous helping of potpourri and a huge table with a corny lit up decorative village. A very well turned out, girl next door type who doesn't wear makeup. Everyone in town inexplicably hates her. I think they do this to emphasize her vulnerability. Sound and visuals are top notch. Lotta legit scares.

I would think that the aliens and their forgiving nature for the accidental death of one of their’s is indeed an accident. Making them as human as us. There aren’t many forgiving humans, and many of us do presume that instances happened on purpose. And the townsfolk did judge this girl too much and couldn’t find the concept that everyone live differently from everyone else. Similar to how medieval villagers to spinsters and outcasts.

They couldn't forgive her not because she was ''different'' but because she killed her friend. Also, that's not why most people find it hard to forgive. I think a lot of stuffs left up in the air in this movie. My theory is that the guys calling the shots were not the aliens but those disgusting slimy creatures that ended up living in people throats. They hijack everyones bodies and brains and take over. Perhaps the stereotypical looking aliens were also possessed by those neck bug things and forced to do their bidding. Perhaps those things are interstellar pathogens like a xenomorph. They move from planet to planet by taking over the spaceships crew. I doubt that any of the alien killed actually died. They must have been able to revive the dead and recover the injured with their crazy technologies, which explained their mostly just frustrated demeanors. Just like another commentor said, this was a research party full of non-combatants and they did not expect the level of resistance and lethality that protagonist was capable of. They did not kill her though as the downed aliens were probably just minor set-backs at most. The chief researcher, evident by his curious and calm behavior, either had the most IQ, experience, or both so he convinced the rest of the team to spare the girl.
