@floety2 жыл бұрын
An alternative is using something like Autocode which provides snipets of codes to add functions to your bot. there's a free plan which can be used for the active badge itself. And if you like it, you still can code on the platform (which include a whole IDE, solid hosting solution, documentations ...) and either share your work or host your own bot. (also you can get credits for hosting when your shared work is being used by others) Note : i am not affiliated with them, i am using their services and been on it since their beta, always (well not always but it is) been great for hosting purposes, snipets can be modified, you can check if something is fishy and often they check for malicious code, everything is clear from coding to plans.

As a developer, I wonder why the badge wasn't something that was given to people who had discord applications (bots) on their account/portal page. They could also have used some github integration or something to see if the dev was actively contributing to the bot they created.
@evryon18102 жыл бұрын
100% agree
@herppderpp74582 жыл бұрын
They dont do this because, they want people to use commands aka slash commands, and some bots out there still have not migrated to slash commands, but that gateway will be shutdown early 2023. For the github part, not every dev put their code on github, and it will mean the dev is forces to link a github account to make a bot, and that will take more database space, and discord spending more money on hardware. Discord have said, they might add some requirements in the future, you have to follow in order to mark your bot active to be able to keep the badge, but we will see what they come up with.

Great video, However to fall for a "Active Developer" badge as being discord staff, You'd have to be pretty oblivious, You can click a badge and it will show relevant information, HOWEVER, The website for active developer does not tell users that the user isn't a dev for discord so there is that, They should probably add that or maybe add a short description when you hover over the badge.

Being able to get the badge this easy isn’t because Discord wants people to start developing bots (and I don’t think anyone who just skidded some code to get the badge will actually have any development interest, like 99.99% of discord users they just want badges lol.) This is more so a clever way to get people to learn about slash commands, as you have to run a slash command to get it. I guarantee more people have learned about slash commands from this than learned how to code.

Coding a discord bot is both fun and confusing for people that don't have a lot of experience in programming. It's fun coming up with a new idea for your bot and trying to write the code for it but it can also be somewhat confusing. When I first started to code a discord bot , I was very overwhelmed by the sheer amount of commands and i didn't even know where to start or the basics of the programming language (i made it with JavaScript), luckily I have a friend that is more experienced with this sort of thing so he helped me and explained a few things .If you really want to start making a bot for discord i suggest looking up tutorials on the basics of Js and take a look at the discord documentation , It's not hard to make your own bot you have countless videos explain stuff so go ahead and try making one.

So when you create a small project in scratch and understand the logic you are ready to program for real!! :D Yeah writing real code is harder, but after watching few turorials and making few little project. You will be able to write your own code! To program discord bots you can use python or javascript. They both have their pros and cons, but I won’t list them here. And some last tip. Please don’t get stuck on tutorials. After you make some of your first projects. Try to make some by yourself and if you don’t know what to code there are pleeenty of ideas on the internet. I actually have the active developer badge because I run a totally legit bot that everyone on my server uses. I'm highly into programming and learning code and learning new tricks so the website you put for like great learning places I might actually go look at to see if I can improve my skills.

I too got the badge watching NTTS's video but after I got the badge, it really did encourage me to create a bot. I have now created a really simple bot (I don't have the server to host it yet) and deleted the older bot which I used to get the badge.

I'm honestly more annoyed at this badge because it's not a case of "welcome new people" and "get more people to become developers", it's more likely a case of people just trying to get this badge for flexing purposes, not that they're actually going to be developing anything. I honestly just wish that Discord brought back the `Verified Bot Developer` badge, as the requirements for it are a little bit more strict, unlike this Active Developer badge that anyone can get with 0 effort. And saying this as a developer, I don't want to have a badge just to "seem different/cool", because I honestly don't care too much about these badges. It just somewhat sucks how developers who actually do the work, and actually put in effort are told that there's a badge in honour of them, yet this badge can be claimed by literally anyone.

Kinda pisses me off how inexperienced users can get the badge, It basically is used to attract a crowd of followers saying, “PLS MAKE MY BOT” “PLS GIVE NITRO” “PLS HELP ME CODE” and all of that bullshit, it’s just used for attention.

I've been developing discord bots for my friends and for myself for years and I didn't know that discord give you a badge for that hahahaha.

The vast majority of people do not even know this exists in my experience. I only know myself and an actual bot developer who have the badge lolol. I got it because why not, and I actually do know how to code (I'm a web dev student), even tho I haven't made Discord bots. I'm not exactly a stranger to the Discord application interface tho because I've used it for rich presences and some other things. I think the badge helps make it a bit more obvious that I'm the dedicated IT/bot management person in many of the servers I'm in, or at the very least makes me look like I know more about Discord than the average person, so it's nice for visibility 😂

If you guys wanna start programming your own discord bot easily, I recommend using Scratch For Discord. There are several tutorials about it on youtube and easy to use when you get used to it.

It’s ok NTTS, the people saying those messages are just mad they can’t get a badge that’s rare.
