Everyone Is Mad About GOTY Nominations

A lot of people are very upset about the Game of the Year nominations by "The Game Awards" this year. There were a lot of good games that came out this year, but are the games nominated really the best games?

RE4 nomination is not that outrageous. The Departed is a remake of a Hong Kong movie - a great movie and still got an Oscar despite being a remake.

This is a solid argument. If it's been long enough, with a new team bringing a new vision, and it doesn't use any of the same assets as the original, it makes sense that it be judged for what it is: a fresh, modern retelling of a familiar story. The Last of Us remake this is not.

RE4 absolutely deserves to be there. It's not a remaster it's a REMAKE. So it's a completely new retelling of the story. That's like saying BEN HUR shouldn't get an Oscar because they already made a silent version of the movie. That makes no sense.

Well the original game was fully voiced you clown, its not comparable one bit. The remake is equivalent to them shooting a new movie with higher res cameras and new actors but with some extra scenes. Its the same game with a parry mechanic added. Plus microtransactions of course, its 2023, and if you arent sony you simply need to add microtransactions to a linear story focused game, its absolutely necessary.

At the end of the day there's always going to be someone who is angry that their game didn't get nominated. That said, does it surprise me Starfield for example didn't make it? Not really. There were way too many mixed opinions coming from that title. On the other hand I would be surprised if BG3 wouldn't have made the pick because of the sheer amount of time it dominated games media.

Yeah absolutely but I think it’s crazy Starfield wasn’t nominated when RE4 was you know? Or even FFXVI, which was very well received. Idk how they decide who they nominate exactly but this seems like an oversight.

The problem its when some games that are not clearly an game of the year are nominated like RE4R oof...its an Remake, not even a game made from the original creator...and Super Mario too in game of the year idk...

I agree that basically rereleases shouldn't be nominated. However, if a game is really innovated upon and changed enough to be practically a new game, like the _FFVII Remake_ for example, it should be allowed to be nominated. I haven't played the old or new _Resident Evil 4_ games so I can't say if it is different enough. Not really a _Resident Evil_ fan. Honestly I haven't played any of the games nominated either because I don't own a console, I'm just not interested in the genre, or it doesn't work on my PC(I'll get back to that). Like, from what I've heard, _Baldur's Gate 3_ is an amazing game, but I have absolutely no interest in that high fantasy setting or the gambling playstyle. I do own _Alan Wake 2_ , it just won't work on my PC for some reason, much to my ever growing vexation. I really liked the first _Alan Wake_ and _Control_ was my personal GotY when it came out. Which was also the same year _Shadowbringers_ came out for _FFXIV_ , which is my favorite expansion. So it was a good year for me. The _Alan Wake_ DLC for _Control_ was also my favorite of its DLC. I liked _Starfield_ , but as much as I like the lore and story of _Alan Wake/Control_ (really the Remedyverse if you include _Quantum Break_ which also has references to _Alan Wake_ and _Control_ [never played _Max Payne_ though]) I can almost guarantee _Alan Wake 2_ would be my personal GotY if I could play it.

Yeah I kind of think Alan Wake 2 might be really good, I am playing through the first one right now and I am super impressed. But I agree, FF7 remake should be considered because it’s not just a straight remake, it’s basically a sequel but RE4 while I’m sure it’s good just looks like RE4. Anyway, I am excited to get to AW2 I hope you figure out how to make it run on your PC, that is such a bummer you can’t play it right now!

@@genjigearlive It's really annoying because it's literally the only game that doesn't work and the one game I was most excited about this year. I meet all the specs for it, so it's not like my computer is too old. I've played Phantom Liberty and Starfield which only released a month before with absolutely no issues. Very frustrating. I am curious, though, do you have a VOD channel on KZbin or considered one for your playthroughs? Twitch is kind of untenable with its ads and it's easier to watch when everything's in one place. If it's outside the scope of your workload that's fine. I was just interested in seeing your Alan Wake gameplay.

Resident Evil 4 Remake got an "improved mechanics" but also an "modern adaptation" they changed the female characters designs for avoid the backlash from the modern femminists, removed all the flirting scenes, not anymore a funny humor but just dark and the acting of some characters are weird, also gore and violence increased, so its an "modern western adaptation" that of course it could make happy a RE4 fans, but for the old fans that its an direspectful game since they trashed RE2R and especially RE3R, they rushed these games just for release RE4R and capcom admitted that they saw more profits on that RE4 than others so a reason that the communities divided. RE4R its not even created from the original creator so they just exploited RE4 Remake for get cash, the original was more cheesy and playful even it was an horror, for me its not an "Resident Evil" anymore as for many fans (the community manager and devs muted / blocked the critics) I presume that this RE4R was nominated because it pleased the journos like Spiderman2...like TLOU2.

Well nothing to be surprised since the recent years and im still surprised that Elden Ring won the goty last year, but seriously there are so many games that was released this year and they nominated the most woke games beside Zelda and super Mario (Zelda ok could be fine but Super Mario could be in other categories than be the game of the year nomination lol) RE4 its also an "remake" and they probably included it because the journos enjoyed the modern adaptation like making the game close to TLOU2 with woke female designs, same for Alan Wake 2 that got a white woman swapped with a black and more woke contents in Spiderman 2 like Black Cat bisexual etc... Idk but personally these nomination sound ridiculous...

Only Zelda deserves the GOTY this year... BG3 is still unfinished, RE4 absolutely deserves to be nominated, same for Mario Wonder... I've put far more hours into BG3 than anyone defending it, since i had it for over 3 years since the early access... I´m one of the few who are honest enough, that as much as i like it... the game is unfinished, and should NOT be a GOTY contender, but the gaming community has allowed it to enter this "untouchable" status, where if you're remotely critical of it, you have to be some fanboy of something else... No... Im a mega fan of both Larian and the BG series... and what they did is unacceptable, you put hundreds of hours into a run, for the game to break sometimes during the very ending... And have the hivemind praise that? How messed up is that? Just because their self validation hinges on the game being perfect, which it not only isnt, but even if it was finished, it would still be inferior to Zelda... Western devs have admitted to be put to shame by what Zelda achieves... It's far above anything any other game has managed to do up to this point... EVER... And yet, BG3 will still win GOTY, without deserving it... Crazy... RE2 remake also got many nominations, won none, but still deserved to be nominated. Lost to Sekiro, rightfully so. Spiderman 2 and Alan Wake 2 don't deserve it tho.
