Wirbel is at least a decade older than the girl he is carrying, whereas the girl from his childhood is his age. Note in Ehre's flashback she's a kid and Wirbel is already grown up.

0:50 You can, but it drains so much mana that using a full barrier for more than a few seconds will exhaust most mages. The general rule is to only form a partial barrier and only for long enough to take one hit.
