Become The Knight But, still don’t like Scar Tissue? You gotta understand the story and the amount of emotion the solo has, its beautiful how every solo delivers more and even more emotion (i mean “every solo” cause there are 3 solos) At first I didn’t dig the song completely, didn’t like it that much, but as i understood what John Frusciante wanted to tell us, the Story he had to tell through his solo, i freaking loved the whole song, and its 3 simplistic but full of emotions solos. Edit: NOT sayin my favorite solo, NOT sayin its the best in the world, NOT even sayin its Johns best solo (because oh god does he have some mind blowin’ LIVE solos). Just sayin, you haven’t yet undertood solo for you to like it. Also, big fan Mike

I don’t think he’s being petty or trying to convey an image or anything, he simply doesn’t admire the solo that much, he can understand the concept behind it and how it impacts the song but it just doesn’t stick with him as it does other people

"I was not expecting that from the Chili Peppers" seems to be a pretty common sentiment. In my opinion that's why they're so great. Unlike bands like ACDC where everything sounds the same all their stuff sounds completely different yet Anthony's voice is unique enough that its just about recognizable. They've found just the right balance between having a 'sound' and being diverse.

Oh no I got triggered again John Frusciante's name is pronounced "John Frooo-shant-te"..and if you check stats he has ranked as top 72 out of 100 guitarists of all time ...they have sold over 80,000,000 albums and inductees of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame and on a pretty much sold out world tour right now.....Anthony writes all his lyrics about his life but more in a poetry kind of way instead of a literal way....he explains them in interviews....Scar Tissue is held high because of the story that goes along with it and the beautiful video...and their biggest hits were in the 1990's & early 2000's..and Goodbye Angels is awesome!.....ok I got it out now..I'm good lol.

i´m a huge RHCP fan but i have to say that i dont like On Hot Minute. cause that time was a very sad time for the group (except for Dave ) and you can see inn all the interviews at that time that they all hated making it. and Scar Tissue is actullay a lot about dave. "a know it all" witch kiedis calls him. so i just get this bad vibe from the whole album. my favorite is defntly BSSM

Incidentally, the guitar solo in that song follows a Jimi Hendrix style build up, but with a John Frusciante twist. If you listen to Hendrix's Watchtower solo, he plays 3 solos, with each solo bigger than the last. John does the same thing, but with a mellow, melodic focus. Totally opposite style, but using a similar format. As far as what I like about it, it's really all about the choice of notes, whether he plays the note or slides to the note, and the space between them. For example, he starts the first solo playing the same note being sung in the lyrics. Each solo after that he starts with a higher note: A 5th above for the second solo, and then an octave above for the 3rd (also matching with the vocal part). Also, each solo is twice as long as the previous solo, an additional element in the solo being built up. You can kind of think of it as being one solo split into 3 parts. It's honestly one of the most subtle and relaxed solos I know of in "rock" history. Of course, I'm speaking as a huge Chili Pepper fan, and my fascination with that solo has a lot to do with me being really into music theory. It's interesting to me what John does with that solo, because he was never formally trained in music theory.

Well since I'm really bored, and also happen to be a practically religious fan of the peps, allow me to give some insight. The solos on all their studio material are pretty much intentionally dumbed down for different reasons. If you look at the Funky Monks documentary from 1991 you'll see Flea composing Give It Away and clearly the things he was trying to do were a bit challenging for him to execute accurately right there and then. So their producer Rick Rubin advises him to keep it simple. Resulting in the version we have on the album that featured no improvisation from Flea at all. Same with the song itself Funky Monks, which can be heard on the documentary but got reduced to simple repeated 8th notes for the verse. Can't say 100% that thats why John's solos for stuff like Can't Stop were so stripped down but it makes sense. Dani California's solo at Alcatraz 2006 uses the studio version only as a basic framework and on top of that extends into a 12 minute jam, Californication since the stadium arcadium tour has had a different improvised intro jam everytime they used one, same with Around The World and Throw Away Your Television which has a 5 minute outro called Don't You Ever Leave that isn't included in the album version at all. The album solo of Don't Forget Me becomes almost a completely different song on versions like La Cigale 2006 and Montreal 2006. But I digress. I think their belief is that the songs on their albums should be simple, with little to no improvisation for the sake of appealing to the more casual listener. With stuff like Coffee Shop off One Hot Minute Flea just loses his mind with 2 fully improvised 1-3 minute bass solos or the b-side Stretch where almost every bar in the verses has a different fill from the last. I think its reasonable to say that the poor reception of that album for its highly experimental nature may have added to their belief of only really doing the crazy stuff with the songs when performing live.

Californication is a song about the dark side of Hollywood. The song's lyrics are really deep and meaningful. The song is basically about the things that people would do to become and stay famous. You have people who travel from all over the world to California just to become famous.Unfortunately,some will go against their own moral compass just to be worshiped by their fans. Californication is hit song that is trying to convey a message unlike any other of their hit songs. love your videos man keep up the good work.

The traditional "guitar solo" is basically an accompanied cadenza, to use the baroque era term. The solo in Scar Tissue is technically a solo, but it's most definitely _not_ a cadenza.
@GayLatinoBear
@GayLatinoBear 7 жыл бұрын
As someone who is a California boy, I can at least see why people like that solo (I agree with you before I start though). Besides the obvious excuse of back then everybody was on some kind of drug (Seriously at that time every adult who listened to them was on weed or ecstasy or something) it's basically the fact that the whole song is one consistent chill, so it's non threatening to a casual listener... and to add on that there's just an unexplained energy there when his vocals end the solo starts. Also, I've been dealing with a depression lately, but that Whiskey joke got a good laugh out of me so thank you for just being you

RHCP is one of the best bands ever and are completely underrated! I can't fathom why they aren't bigger than they already are. All the musicians in the band are fantastic at what they do and they put ensembles together in the most beautiful way possible! The ensembles are made of Leprechaun gold, rainbows, marshmallows and just a hint of Chemical X...

Hey Mike, as a big RHCP fan, their new album is pretty good and pretty weird in some senses. It's a bit more technical then their older stuff, but also has way more synth and electronic inspiration cause their current guitarist is a big multi-instrumentalist. It has REALLY good basslines but lack the Frusciante guitar solos. Overall, nice album, definitely not your typical RHCP sound. I recommend listening to Dark Necessities and Go Robot to get an overall feel of the album.

Californication is about how/what life in Hollywood is like. Its obvious from the chorus where he (kiedis) talks about all the porn and the sci fi that took over at that time. Plus he disses the concept of how everyone dreams of it and the idealization of it in general, that's just what I think though and it's what the majority of rhcp fans think is the meaning of it

Maurice Tenud oh but you actualy can... gilmour has it more creative feel.. while frusciante certanly doesnt lack the creativity he has that ability to transfer the moment he lived onto the guitar(speak with the guitar).. theory wise gilmour and frusciante have common grounds most guitarists share but every guitarist have their comfort zone and its how they use the comfort zone... i think frusciante's comfort zone is pentatonics triads and his ear..while gilmour's is dorian mode arpeggio major/minor vibe.. they are both masters no need to disrespect anyone... and then here is the point when the dude in the video said he doesent get why solo is so good to people... and thats probably cuz he busted his ass learning techniques on guitar and theory ofc.. but then comes that ez solo... you my friend either dont have the passion for listening to music without analyzing it what he is doing... see that solo blends perfectly and it has own character and even tells a story if you only see how it looks like when you play it on a guitar then i dont know what to say except I feel sorry for you

+Kick Bam You seem to make an awful lot of assumptions about what I do and don't like.......also for the record, you learn to shred and tell me how it feels being less notable than a Kurt Cobain solo.....
@Voorhees67
@Voorhees67 7 жыл бұрын
While I agree with the original commenter's statement of "less is more" to a certain extent, I also understand why all these amazing guitar players aren't as popular in the mainstream such as John Petrucci, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai for instance. At times, some of their music only seem to showcase the guitar, which sometimes can give off this vibe that's saying "look how cool & awesome my guitar playing is" as oppose to a combined effort within a band, even though this isn't usually the case, and it most certainly is not in any way whatsoever when it comes to John Petrucci's work in Dream Theater. And while I think Scar Tissue's guitar solo is so boring it could be used to help insomniacs fall asleep, I think what Kick Barn might be trying to say is that you don't have to shred in order to create a great guitar solo, but he does assume that you only think that a great guitar solo involves shredding, which most likely isn't the case.
@kickbam213
@kickbam213 7 жыл бұрын
Become The Knight sure but kurt didnt got famous by shredding or writing good solos..(i dont like him either) guys like steve vai did so it is expected from them to deliver... while kurt sits there and serves the song in some way he wants... and frusciante has no doubt better solos than kurt but he also didnt get famous cuz his ability to solo like a maniac... but he sure does serve the song lot more than kurt and tell me my assumptions are wrong

I get where he's coming from with his point. It blends in with the rest of the song, so much so, that it doesn't stand out. But at the same time, that's why it's a great solo. Not the best ever, or even John's best ever, but it's some great playing in its own right.

Maybe it's because people are like "It's the best solo on Earth! John has so much talent! Oh my god!". But when coming from a musicians standpoint, It was the first solo I learned as a beginner at guitar, which tells you how much talent it actually requires, The song wouldn't be any less great without the solo, Without the rest of the song the solo would not be as praised as it is now because it needs the song to build up to it. But take the solo from Stairway to Heaven and that could be a masterpiece on it's own. It's just a matter of how well you understand the music, and understanding that solo there's nothing spectacular about it. It's a good solo, not a great one.
@batman8293
@batman8293 6 жыл бұрын
Nate Jones A solo shouldn't be measured on how difficult it is to play, though. It's a great solo in its own right. I'd agree it isn't the best solo, but when you study the song musically, as well as lyrically, it fits it perfectly. Playing someone's music and writing the music are two completely different skills altogether. We've seen on occasion what John can do with a guitar on a pure flamboyant level. He's not a Satriani or a Vai from a technical standpoint, but the music he can produce with his guitar is equally impressive.

The Beach Boys forged the California sound and through it out there for the world to hear back in the 60s. As a Californian, and a guitarist who has a deep love for the culture, I think California should honestly be its own sub genre of rock, or even its own genre of music all together.

1:05 correction, that would be their 4th album. 4:28 that would be Anthony Kiedis, a phenomenal songwriter 11:25 no they were not the innovators of the California sound, but they were the innovators of the funk rap rock sound. And to conclude, when you give yourself time to understand the lyrics, you can't help to enjoy the songs even more. Californication is about life in California (obviously!), but more inclined towards how people try to chase their dreams to make it big because of the massive entertainment business juggernaut that is Cali. And to what extent that these people would go to become famous and remaining relevant afterwards. Kind of like saying that there's a dark side to the glamour of Cali.
