Its a good filler as it tied to the journey and was placed at a great point that it feels like part of the journey but as stated IT IS FILLER. You can skip it and will not miss much nor is it barely mentioned only by montage or in another filler arc (anime only not manga)

They were literally right at the mountain's entrance, fleeing from pursuing navy ships, and then just did a complete 180 and went the exact opposite direction. One of the most awkward filler transitions I've ever seen, besides anything that just cuts to something entirely unrelated, of course.

I want to make this comment because I keep seeing this around and I see where this comes from, however it's more of a technicality. Jimbei joined in the whole cake island arc officially. This is where Luffy and the crew that are with him acknowledge him as such. Yes, he leaves to make sure the Sun Pirates don't lose their life in their escape. However, as Zoro, Usopp, and Robin didn't leave the crew for their current objective, Jimbei didn't leave the crew either.
